Press kits are almost always better than the limited/collectors editions.

That is cool... but the idea of an exclusive and lavish "press kit" full of goodies is one I take issue with on principle so I'm conflicted.

All I got was a code and a "Shut the fuck up until embargo."

Edit: This was a joke, I don't care. Most press kit stuff gets shoved in my drawer.

In fairness PlayStation access isn't really "press". It's pretty much Sony eu marketing arm.

Eh, I wouldn't be surprised if most-if-not-all of the big-name outlets such as IGN, Gamespot, etc received this. Playstation Access likely just had permission to show it off since, as you say, they're pretty much just another Playstation marketing group.

This is nothing new. It's been going on for ages.

And?

I do feel an avatar quote is necessary here lol

NYC
I usually consider myself lucky I don't get garbage sent to my house, but if those NYC maps are real that would be neat for an office.

Sorry, I read yoru psot like you've never heard about press kits before.

Nah I've known about them for a long while. This and stuff like press events and exclusive content such as "IGN Firsts" are some of the most egregious examples of conflicts of interest in the gaming journalism space.

Though all it really does is make me ignore the reviews from any big outlets when it comes to massive games like these. They're almost always guaranteed to be glowing so I'd rather look at my own hype for the game and reviews from more independent sources when deciding whether to buy it.

Press kits are one of the most hilariously old fans joined traditions of this industry. What a waste of marketing money

She works at Playstation guys

This may not be what all press get

Not all press, of course, but there would be no point in making this if it were only going to literal Playstation marketing outlets. This'll most definitely be going out to the big-name sites such as IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, Kotaku, etc alongside a select few Youtube 'influencers' who I'm too out of touch to name right now lol.

This is nothing exclusive to Spider-Man, but I just hate that the press gets these things. Call it envy. Call it bribe. I don't care honestly - it just doesn't feel right.

Again, this is something general but it shouldn't be a thing. Period.

these are kits for influencers currently at an event with us in New York City

That explains it. It's been a hot minute since I've gotten any physical item to go along with a review code/copy. Frankly, I'm fine with this, most of this stuff just ends up in my drawer. And of course, accepting these items muddies the waters when it comes to journalistic integrity.

Meh.

Enthusiast Press isn't necessarily "journalism" in the sense that it needs complete integrity and culpability. When those journalists are actually paid wages relative to the amount of work they have to put into stories, previews, and reviews...then I'll care. Until then, asking them to be the beacon of light to guide your purchase decisions while also being totally okay with them making table scraps is pretty absurd, imo.

Awesome, or a load of cheap shite that will go in a drawer and never be used? I'll go for the latter.

Next thing is that MS sends IGN a car with a copy of FH4 in the drivers seat. :P

Which would be just as bad (don't know why you randomly bring it up but okay). I just can't stand these super deluxe press kits anymore.

Let your game speak for your work. Not some t-shirts or stickers. I'm sure Spider-Man has the quality to impress without some goodie bags.

As plenty of folks have pointed out, any self-respecting member of the media would refuse or return all of this swag.
