I'm not even talking about their opinion, I'm talking about the voice and the "like a runner falling onto his face" jokes. But whatever. I already understood that it's not my type of humour.

If that's the case I find it interesting you would come into this topic and post "Is this supposed to be funny?"

I just texted my friend group that this just came out and one responded simply with "Jedi Plinkett Smith"

Awesome, have been waiting for this. Wonder if they mention the nonsensical plot element of the First Order not using two hyperspace jumps to close up tothe resistance fleet and destroying it.
Haha, what. Plot elements aren't nonsensical because you can invent some type of solution to make things happen in a different way. You know, sometimes decisions in stories are made in the name of smart storytelling, to service the narrative in the strongest fashion, even if they sometimes clash with diegetic elements. In your case, I honestly never thought of that or heard of that idea.

I saw the movie for the first time last weekend and thought it was a steaming turd of a movie. There wasn't much about it that I liked. This should be interesting!

How dare they criticize such a obviously perfect work of film that has no glaring faults what so ever.

opening to this is horrible, basically saying Rian has done fuck all worthwhile so shouldn't have gotten the job.

I still 'member when RLM was unanimously quoted for the prequels.

As soon as their opinion is different than yours it's suddenly game over, though.

I can't wait for this bullshit to be linked by star wars elitist like it's some sort of unbeatable trump card against liking the movie.

Are they bitching about diversity in this one too?

Fuck RLM.

Oh this will be good. The Last Jedi was garbage tier so you know this will deliver.

Yeaaah I think I'm gonna pass. Plinkett's stuff is just not very good in the current era of video essays. He always has some nice points to say, whether I agree or not, but eight minutes in it's all been jokes about the death of Star Wars and Ryan Johnson in particular without actually establishing an actual thesis. It's incredibly cumbersome and meandering when compared to any of the actual cinema criticism channels like Nerdwriter or Lessons From The Screenplay.

The Force Awakens one was pretty bad. With them complaning about inclusion. Not sure if I wanna waste time with this one
It really put me off their content.
Uh Oh. I've seen every Plinkett review, Half in the Bag, Plinketto, Best of the Worst, Re-view, RLM movie, commentary track, Nerd Crew, Growbowski, Gamestation 2.0, Gamestation 1.0, Jay's holiday streams, Jay's vlog, and most Pre-Rec streams... But I'm starting to think these guy were never funny. Anyone else think that way?
I think I just got tired of their schtick as they started leaning harder into it. I replaced them with Double Toasted quite sometime ago, but now that Goodwin, Girts and Danielle have left DT, I am left with a bit of a void for this type of content.

Great, I was waiting for this one. 20 minutes in and it's already better than the force awakens review.

Why did they have to stealth drop this on the day I'll be busy?

There's a shitty joke toward the end about referring to ships as "she." I can almost hear the neckbeards jizzing on their keyboards.

They are funny but have terrible taste in movies and don't really know anything about good film. Honestly the best case scenario for youtube movie reviewer types.

I mean... he didn't do much worthwhile with the story, that's for sure
Except it has the best story and best screenplay of any Star Wars film since 1980's Empire Strikes Back.

See how much fun opinions are.

Oh and RLM is pure trash. They showed their true colors in the TFA review complaining about inclusion and diversity. Nothing but a bunch of white straight dudes who can't see the world beyond the mindset of white straight dudes. Yawn.

The already complained about inclusion in the attack of the clones review. Whined about Sam Jackson being included because it was a 'trick' to get black people to like star wars.

Nope... Not for me anyway.

I don't mind the sw prequels at all and I found those reviews funny but I felt they were not playing to an audience as much as they created one that they now constantly play to over and over and over again.

I have no idea why people made them out to be the gospol truth when it comes to criticism of film. I used to think they were just an act.

How much "forced diversity" bullshit? They tone that stuff down or have they still lost their fucking minds?

They unpacked the prequel trilogy well enough, with good specific examples of where the characters and storytelling went wrong. Since then they've declined, with only the occasional half-insightful Half in the Bag episode.

Noticeable, how he uses 'we' more in these newer reviews. It's because he know he pandering to a certain audience.

Haven't watched it yet, I'll need to watch the movie first. I am aware of them disliking the movie far more than Force Awakens. The Plinkett review for that one was bad by Plinkett standards because it wasn't as focussed. It was meant to adress the 'sleeziness' of the whole franchise but Mike especially was very okay with the film. The Ghostbusters one was similar in this, but worked faaaar better simply because the movie was just terrible.

If it had been a solo review, they would be saying 'these films need some independent film makers with a voice to make them different rather than some Hollywood hack'.

That's what I don't understand... What do they want exactly? This is why I feel its all playing to an audience.

The already complained about inclusion in the attack of the clones review. Whined about Sam Jackson being included because it was a 'trick' to get black people to like star wars.

Shit.. I totally seemed to have forgotten that :(
