Am I the only one that doesn't want to see Star Wars plinkett reviews?

New movies are boring to review.

Give me more Baby's Day out or something that is completely bizarre to review.

Yep. Star Wars in particular is completely oversaturated. I'd very much like a takedown of Star Trek Into Darkness, though.

Even that I think is boring.

Most big budget shit today is at the very least boringly competent. Which doesn't make for a great deep dive.

That's why Re:view is great. Lets them show why a movie is great like a predator.

Well, I couldn't disagree more with the review, so that's a bummer.

What really hampers it even more is the fact that everyone and their brother have wanted to duplicate the Plinkett format so many of the complaints come off as old.

Plinkett felt so fresh and now it really doesn't. But that's probably just me.

urgh. I mean, I can see the comedy angle bit, but the whole 'let's blame the woman in the room' makes me abhor this, and quite frankly, all TLJ commentaries.

The Plinkett review aligns mostly with what I've said before which is that TLJ is mostly a terrible script that was well shot and acted. The structure is horrendous and from a story arc perspective we end in basically the same place that the first movie established making TFA feel more like a prologue. I think Mike is right that It would have been a better film if it had ended with the throne scene because it was definitely the climax of the film. I do disagree with most people's assessment of Luke, though. His characterization is one of the few things in the film that works yet at the same time ending the movie after the throne room scene would have allowed them to skip the Ghost of Christmas Luke shenanigans at the end.

Just saw review. Was OK. What are next?

Feels like they're really doing this due to Patreon expectations. I think they've been burnt out on Star Wars (along with the Plinkett format) for a long time now.

I just hope Jay is working on a Twin Peaks Season 3 thing.

With Josh, yes. That is my most anticipated Re:View.

I would hope it's something a little weighter then just a Re:View. There's a lot to get into.

I thought they did a bang-up job with Fire Walk With Me. Maybe they can do a two-parter like Mike and Rich did with Discovery? I would be up for that. Have one half devoted just to that ending. HA.

That would need to be a 3 parter. The first two about the season, and the third just about the ending.

How bad is it in the video? I'm not a big fan of that myself and I'd rather not support that type of behavior with a click

"medium". It's not as bad as wholesale 'fire Kennedy' people, but it's still there. Then again, you may argue that this 'blame one person' goes to the character sthick with Rick Berman in the Star Trek videos, and George Lucas's producers in the prequel videos, etc.

I'm going to go with the latter reading since not even Mike would be crazy enough to think that audiences have any say over producers.

Well before we would just blame George for everything and...everything

But your comments does make sense in context, I'll check out the review later on

I'm not going to boycott, I just don't really care anymore. This trilogy is a mess and the standalone films have been too.

Every franchise can't be produced as well as the MCU I guess.

To be fair the MCU didn't quite hit the ground running either but the issue of course is that current Star Wars is going to be compared with the current MCU that has all cylinders firing not the MCU of 10 years ago. It's a hard spot to be in for Kathleen Kennedy and everyone at Lucasfilm but I do hope they're able to get to a similar spot to the current MCU quality with every film.
I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we'll see multiple Star Wars movies a year though since it would be difficult to have movies that are as different as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy all exist in the Star Wars universe. You're kinda limited by what you can do and I think people will get mad if they go too out there with Star Wars.

Haha, exactly my feelings after I saw TLJ, it really left me with no more interest in seeing where the trilogy goes It doesn't even feel like it's building to anything. Like Rey and Kylo are going to fight? Everyone else will rebuild the Resistance? Defeat the First Order? And they're going to do that in one more movie?
I guess I have a little curiosity for just how they're going to try and land things after TLJ, but not enough to see it in theaters probably.

Didn't even bother seeing Solo, doubt I'll do anything more than rent it once it's out.

This is exactly how I feel as well. I thought that they really mismanaged the whole erasure of the extended universe stuff because at some level that expanded stuff didn't have to be canon but they ignored years of pre-tested material that they could draw from similar to how the MCU adapts certain comic storylines. At the very least their insistence on cynically keeping everything status quo from the original trilogy with regards to The Empire -> First Order and Rebellion -> Resistance makes the original trilogy seem pointless and makes the whole post-Lucas Star Wars endeavor feel like it is narratively about spinning its wheels while creating new focus tested merchandising opportunities.

It's got to suck having two of your most popular business products be something you potentially hate doing long term. It seems like they genuinely loathe BotW sometimes, but they really seem to hate WotW.

to be fair they have to potentially sit for 4.5-7 hours watching movies, and the discuss it for lord knows how much all in one day. I'm sure it's exhausting when it's bad movies.

Hence why they should ONLY do Wheel of the Worst, cross their fingers it's short videos.

Only part of the video which annoys me is knowing that around this place bringing up how utterly stupid the entire escape pod plotline was will be dismissed as parroting this video.

I didn't know where else to put that on this webside so now you have to deal with it.

It being structured like a comedy was definitely eye opening, because it makes total sense. It felt like they were making fun of Star Wars the whole time
People thought Disney was going to remake Empire Strikes Back this time, but they took after Attack of the Clones instead!

I just don't understand how you don't have a plan for your bajillion dollar franchise. It doesn't need to be marvel level but at least sketch out an outline of the main trilogy instead of just letting different people do whatever they want.

That's for the side stuff your rogue ones and whatever, but your mainline stuff at least you can guarantee continuity of some degree then. It just boggles my mind how some higher up let all this happen when they're always such the opposite.

They did have a plan, JJ wrote scripts for episodes 8 and 9 but Rian Jonhson threw out the episode 8 script.

Give me the uneven but interesting Star Wars films over MCU every single day of the week. Having too much of a machined and focused-tested plan is exactly what makes those movies so forgettable.

The pity is we're going to get an incredibly safe Episode IX because Abrams and Disney will feel they're in franchise saving mode again after TLJ, which had massive flaws but was not a bad film.

Eh, felt like RJ wanted to challenge Star Wars conventions and just failed, nothing more.

It will be interesting to see if he gets any work on his trilogy moving forward. Disney has to view that as pretty risky right now.
