Love first person RPG. BGS games are my jam. Happy someone else come to their territory, shit is looking fire.
First person is better for vertical progression (Dishonored, Deus Ex, Metroid Prime...), just look at how Geralt looks stupid when he jumps or when he climbs in Witcher 3, so I'm happy with first person.

I still plan on getting the game because I definitely expect that even though the first gameplay footage didn't convince me, I can't see myself not enjoying the game when it releases eventually.

As for the third person camera, it's a shame that there's only third person view available in vehicles and all these years I honestly thought it was going to be like Witcher 3. My own fault though, I didn't read the info sheet well enough. A third person option would be so good to have while walking through that city, to see your newly bought or found outfits. Much like a BGS game, often enough in Skyrim and Fallout 4 I would switch to third person.

For some reason ever since the game was announced I assumed it will be FPP. It never bothered me one bit since I don't have a prefernence when it comes to prespective. So yes I'm buying and extremely excited after watching the demo.

Still didn't watch the gameplay but I'm convinced I'll enjoy it anyway. While I prefer 3rd person, 1st person won't kill the game for me.

Everything is third person these days. The backlash to one game being first person is something I honestly didn't see coming. I had no idea so many people felt so strongly against it, since it's one of the oldest way to play games and has been popular for so long. I'd say it's a console gamer thing but then things like Halo are huge so really I have no idea where this is coming from.

Also you know, System Shock was first person, Deus Ex was first person, Stalker was first person... Even Fallout and Elder Scrolls are essentially first person games. Feels like there's a decent legacy of FPP/RPG to draw inspiration from so that's hardly a surprise.

I will most likely buy Cyberpunk, but I was really disappointed when they announced it was FPP only, and that design choice will definitely negatively impact my enjoyment of the game.

No. But it would be cool to have a third person walking or running camera. Have combat go into first person.
This.

I was a major first person doubter around E3 but seeing the full gameplay reveal yesterday was my come to jesus moment.
I fully understand and appreciate the first person perspective design choice.

I actually think it will work much better for immersion with how they handle scene interactions and dialogue. That corp agent scene in the drain tunnel for instance was very intense from first person as the one goon has his gun in your face while you negotiate with the agent. Or the gun draw scene in the Scav hideout with Jackie.

So yeah I was always gonna buy the game but the perspective choice added to my excitement.

The problem is interacting with the world. Third person cameras have severe issues with environmental interaction unless they're point and click games. Someone else mentioned trying to pick up a bottle cap in Fallout in third person being a complete pain. There's a reason third person games invariably have such... simplified game design compared to first person games, unless they resort to first person exploration modes which is a weird middle ground where you end up with arbitrary "you can do detective work in this circle" gameplay which doesn't feel organic at all.

Where a first person game would expect you to crouch down and check under the bed for an item (as one did so often playing Deus Ex -- check under beds, check on top of shelves, check behind shelves, check down the crack between the bed and the wall, check in all the drawers, etc), a third person game would make the entire bed glow so that you know it can be interacted with, and then play a "searching" animation where your character finds the item.

I prefer 3rd person perspectives but watching that gameplay video it's clear why they went with FPP.

I don't mind first person games at all. I'm definitely buying this game. If it was in third person I'd buy it as well

Max immersion in FP. Skyrim was actually pretty good at it, and this looks to be on another level.

We are going probably invest so much time in the character, it's kinda sad we only get so see our char in cutscene and in the menu only. Third-Person is more immersive.

I would argue that third person is polar opposite of being immersive.

You don't walk about your day to day life viewing yourself in the third person perspective.

i mean at first i wanted them to make cyberpunk 2077 a third person game because in my imagination it would have looked like gta or the witcher in a future setting. judging by the demo what they have done is basically deus ex with ten times the scope and first person fits perfectly for the type of game they make

Medieval - > Cyberpunk

3rd-person action with swords -> FPS with guns

On the left are probably my two favorite taglines in games. But on the right is such an interesting pivot that it's impossible for me to not be tremendously excited to see CD Projekt's take.

I dont really care, and I think for how the game is structured, as we saw in the gameplay reveal, the first person is the only way to go.

Had I not enjoyed Fallout 4 I wouldnt care about this game. I have no real interest in western games such as Dishonored, Prey or Ass Creed so I'm not sure if I will pick this up. Depends mostly on how I have managed to clear my backlog

Yes, but not because "I Love" the game. I haven't played it. Frankly it just looks spectacular. I will play it how the developer wants and intends me to play it, like any game. I'm surprised that the game camera has so many people hung up.

I like how this poll literally doesn't even consider the possibility than some people might actually prefer this game in first person rather than simply overlook it.

I really think they should develop an isometrical "indie-level" spinoff to this. With turnbased combat

Anyway, I was never under the impression that this would be anything other than first-person, so I had no particular reaction to the "reveal" that it was. It was said to be first-person the day it was announced and so that's what I've had in my head ever since.

To me it feels like a grittier open-world Deus Ex, and that's kind of what I want out of it.

Didn't like the Witcher 3 so wasn't going to buy the game, but having seen the video and that's its 1st person I am interested.

I'm not a huge fan of the first person approach - I've always preferred my RPGs in third-person, even when it's less than polished. That said, I don't think this would be a deal breaker if the game was everything I wanted in other senses. At present, it's really not. Despite absolutely loving The Witcher series, the tone and feel of Cyberpunk really aren't grabbing me. The urban setting, despite being incredibly detailed, isn't begging me to explore it (not sure what it is), nor is the tone of the dialogue, story or game-play doing all that much for me.

It might well change by launch and I'm sure there'll be a lot more to see, but at the moment, it's not shaping up to be what appeals specifically to me (nor should it have to). Nonetheless, I admire CDPR for taking a bold step away from their established successes and pushing themselves in new directions. It must've been tempting to hop on the back of TW3's incredible reception with an immediate follow-up, but they're trying something totally different and that's fantastic.

Pool question is different from the thread title and that's really unnecessary confusion.

I prefer first person myself.

No!! The creators have the best & purest vision of how the Game should be played and enjoyed. They may not get it right always but I trust the devs on this.

This is actually where I'm at - I'm not sold on the premise of Cyberpunk 2077 yet, but I wasn't sold on the Witcher-verse at first either. If they just made the games I wanted they'd be making the Witcher from now until forever. I might not fancy this direction, but I'd rather they pleasantly surprised me with something new than just resold me something they already knew I loved.

The have didn't interest me, but since people seem really excited i would like to give it a try... But when discovered it was first person.. well not interested any more. I can't stand FP games. I really hope VR changes that for me in the future, i think it really did fits there.

That sense of scale was something else. I generally prefer third person games, but I'm sold.

It also REALLY helped with their dialogue scenes, which was a very weak point in their previous games, IMO.

For me it's no big deal if it's 1st, 3rd-person or even isometric, I'd buy it regardless.

There should be a "Yes, and I think CDPR making it only 1st person is an important part of the gameplay" option.
But yeah, I chose the first option and like always it seems the loudest criticism is coming from a really small minority.

Doesn't matter to me one bit. I've been hyped since day 1 and I'm just even more hype at this point.

I would have been disappointed if it were 3rd person. But fuck it's Cyberpunk. I've loved it since the pen and paper game. I'm buying it regardless.

I'm so happy it's first person actually, that almost instantly wipes away all the bad movement mechanics that plague every single one of their games. Also, considering a lot of the game is gonna presumably take place in cramped spaces, first person is a godsend.

First person fits this type of game extremely well and I'd rather play in that perspective to take in all the detail up close.
