Now that DMC is coming back, the remake should also:

Yeah, my concern with a remake over a port would be it possibly losing its original aesthetic and overall vibe.

The other concern of course is going from glorious Kazuma Kaneko art as seen here:

To Masayuki Doi art (anime Kaneko) as so~

I've been interested for a long time. Being able to play this on a modern system would be great.

Not interested. I love Nocturne but there's little in the way of substantial improvements that could come about from a remake. It would be allot easier to screw up, I think. Give me a remaster ala FFX and I'd be happy.

I'm sure they will find a way to ruin the character designs

Kaneko hasn't done character art since the original SMT: Strange Journey in 2009 so that would almost certainly be out the window if they did a remake and not a remaster.

He still is the main demon designer for Atlus (worked on both SMTIV and Persona 5) but he has pretty much stepped back from character art and any PR facing role.

Hmm, as far as I know, while his demon designs were contributed to all future MegaTen titles, he hasn't drawn any new demon art either in quite a while.
(hence main demon designer)

Any new demon designs for SMTIV were handled by outside artists or Doi himself. As for Persona 5, it'd be Soejima I'd imagine.

As long as they don't mess with the art style. Newer SMT games are starting to trend in a "generic perverse anime" direction that I don't like. No jiggle please...

Nocturne with Doi art downgrade and waifus added. no thanks, not trusting modern Atlus.
A largely untouched remaster with uncompressed music would be awesome... Nearly anything else coming from modern Atlus would be a disaster. The thought of a Nocturne remake with Doi art, new characters, new routes and/or save everywhere is Absolutely Disgusting.

True, he hasn't done any actual new demon designs in a while, he might be in more of a supervisor role now as he was specifically credited for "Demon Design & modeling Supervisor" in Persona 5.
He might be overseeing the conversion process for a lot of his original designs into hd 3d for the first time.

I don't think there's need for a full on remake. With it's art style, just making it 4K alone would have it looking gorgeous. It'd be nice to see all of the PS2 SMT games get a similar treatment, I've enjoyed all of what I've played.

Well, at least there's someone on the company openly talking about a interest in bring the game. That means that the chance for a pitch is much higher.

But with how Atlus is with HD development and how there's now two big games being developed for HD consoles, I doubt that this one would come soon.

Graphically you do not need a remake but you could use many QoL additions that have been added to Persona / SMT over the years.

I'd really hope they wouldn't pull a Strange Journey Redux with this if it happens. The original didn't have 2D portraits, and unless they go completely Doi-style cel-shading or something, I'd imagine it surely would keep the original art style.

Strange Journey Redux was such a bizarre decision to redraw all the humans. While on the plus side of it, we got actual portraits for all the minor characters, and some more major characters such as Jack and Ryan, but at the cost of having all the other humans downgraded for some reason. It's even weirder when they didn't redraw major demon characters like Mastema or Bugaboo, both of which having a humanlike figure.

I really hope this happens as I've heard nothing but good things about Nocturne but don't wanna track down a copy/hook up a PS2

I seriously don't understand the handwringing over Doi art ruining the game. Nocturne has no 2D portraits.

All it'd amount to is a change in the style of the boxart. The New Girl's design probably won't jar against the rest of the cast when homogenised to a 3D model either.

I would definitely play this game, even if it is just an HD remaster for modern systems. Let's hope they decide it makes financial sense.

Nocturne doesn't need a remake. It only needs a remaster at most.

Not only that but a remake today would mean no Kaneko. I don't need to see demi-fiend blushing

I agree with you except for save anywhere. Don't see how that could hurt... but the reason games like SMTIV have it is because you can fuse anywhere. I'm going to assume if this remake/remaster is on Switch they'll include save anywhere because it's portable.
In my case, save anywhere ruins all tension and sense of danger, which is essential in these games. It sucks to have it in SJ Redux and it's especially baffling to have it there.

Sure it's optional, but knowing that it's there subconsciously makes me feel safer and like I can be more reckless, which it's the opposite of what I want in a dungeon crawler.

It's never truly optional too, which is the biggest problem. I have no issues with others using it but I'd like to disable it myself. Suspend saves are so much better too.

I seriously don't understand the handwringing over Doi art ruining the game. Nocturne has no 2D portraits.

I mean, it goes without saying that a remake would include new 3D models and it's not that crazy to speculate they'd be redesigned with Doi's style instead. It's entirely possible.
Doi art is better tho

Deep Strange Journey Redux is allegedly a remake - I think that sort of port is what they actually mean.

The biggest update I'd expect would be voice acting - maybe even in English this time?

SJ Redux is a full remake with everything redone except the music. It's even running in SMT4's engine.

I don't think it is being disputed that SJ Redux is a remake, many changes were made to the game overall to be more than a remaster. Its visual look has also been changed.

The question is: does it deserve to be changed in Nocturne, or does it only need to be upscaled ? My opinion is the latter

Nocturne for the new generation needs a LOT of tweaks tho so I will be more than Ok with a remake.

- Fusion System based on the newer games.
- Balancing of the last act of the game.
- Better camera controls.
- Voice acting (that will be optional in case someone wants the old style)
- Replace Loki design with the ones of the newer games =3

Also replace Dante with Raidou so that character slot will be useful (imagine balancing the optional True Ending around a single skill and then not giving your guest party member said skill... wtf?)

And as much as I like Doi art I doubt they are going to remake all the character models with his new style so...

Boy let me tell you, I am All In on New Atlus.

I dislike Kaneko's art (sorry) and I enjoy modern QoL conveniences that respect the player. If that's blasphemous then so be it, but I'm totally down with the remake of your nightmares

I don't really need SMT3 but now with voice acting, non-Kaneko art, and a new female character.

We know NOTHING about this game or it's tone. I still remember people getting excited for how dark SMT x FE would be, especially with the initial tease. But we got fucking pop idols. So we'll see with V.
There's a big difference between SMTxFE that was revealed as just random character jpegs, before the first trailer was shown as TMS#FE, and SMTV which was revealed as a dark showing of demons (and being a throwback on SMT 1) before getting this trailer giving strong Kaneko vibes...

Doi could never, sigh. I'm convinced he is straight up the worst thing about SMT nowadays.
