Attach rates will be higher because their user base is smaller. The console is not a mass market console. Mass market consoles have different type of users ranging from casuals(low attach rate) to "hardcore" users(high attach rate). More casual users = a reduced attach rate. That is not necessarily a bad thing at all. Greenberg's statement is frankly garbage tbh.

I know which is why i said it has certain spin to it .

If the nextbox has some high end specs and comes with M+KB support for most (or atleast all shooters) then I'll consider it a hardcore gamers system.

There would be no real reason to get a gaming PC at that point tbh. At least for me.

Isn't this hardcore marketing shtick just as likely to turn people off?

Hold on, gotta drink another verification can.

Greenberg is an embarrassing relic. His constant fanboy bullshitting style of PR is very last gen.

Looking at the numbers and results of the competition, we have a smaller installed base, but the attach rate and sales data for many games are much higher on Xbox. This is due to the fact that our userbase is made up of more hardcore gamers,
Sounds like the Vita.

He isn't wrong.

But i'm sure people will take it the wrong way and think they're saying they have more hardcore users compared to other companies. It's more they have a higher ratio of hardcore users.
This might not even be true though. Logically, there may be the same amount of hardcore gamers (aka gamers that spend a lot of time/$) on Xbox but on PS that number will be dwindled since it's also full of causal one time buyers, sports fans, etc...and generally has more casual gamers to add to a bigger user base.

Its spin...I don't think there's any substantial evidence to say Xbox has more dedicated or hardcore players, and then you have to define what's hardcore. PUBG and Halo online is hardcore but mastering super meat boy on Switch isn't?

I finally get why I never really liked Xbox though, it's super American oriented lol.

I'm American, just don't like the marketing scheme. Still remember that dude wearing a GTa tatoo and MTV commercials. Eww

There is not a universe where this thread goes well and I feel like OP knows better lol

As per the actual statement by Greenberg: how can anybody quantify this?

In Greenberg's defense I believe his numbers are accurate.

But I don't think it's because XB1 has more "hardcore players" I just think the players they've managed to keep around after the XB1 launch are potentially more devoted to that brand.

I'm sure this thread will end well lol, I guess they have a higher attach rate? we know they have a larger digital percentage. They could at least give an attach rate number, no?

But that data really just points out that the smaller user base usually has a more hardcore fanbase, as the casual crowd buys the most popular brand. It could also be showing that MS has more older players, therefore on average higher income which means bigger spenders.

Attach rate? What is he comparing, the attach rate of games like Horizon Zero dawn or God of War to games like Halo and forza ? or third party multiplat titles like Battlefront 2 or Assassins Creed Origins.

So much good will built lately and then along comes Greenberg to ruin it... I know a few very dedicated Xbox guys, but to me the user base feels very distilled down to just the hardcore Xbox fans on the system while a greater cross section of the gaming community (casuals through to hardcore) are on PS, PC and/or Switch. Just my 2 cents.

Some people just want to see the world burn, chobel... Anyways, attach rate is of course smaller the higher the console sales. I guess it won't take long until people come up arguing it and Matt appears in his usual manner and tell these people they are wrong.
In the end, I guess he's somehow supposed to say that and as we won't find a hard definition from him what a hardcore gamer is to him, this thread will either go places or will soon be locked.

I'm sure telling potential customers that they're not hardcore enough to properly appreciate your product will win them over. Yes, that'll work beautifully.

Perhaps not alienating customers might be a strategy worth trying? You know, stop telling us we aren't hardcore enough, and that we don't really want single player experiences?

Well he phrased it very poorly but this has been discussed before here at least in regards to Xbox One player's habits vs PS4's. It has some merit too, but for obvious reasons it won't ever be discussed properly here and other places as the conversation will always be dumbed down.

He could have definitely said that better.

Let's not act like a large chunk (maybe 20 million) of the PS4 userbase are not former 360 owners following the marketing deals for Call of Duty and Destiny

Well, unless he can come up with numbers to back them up, its hard to believe.

However, Xbox on the software side with the UI, GamePass, Games with Gold, Mixer, Discord Integration atleast are highly geared towards getting the Gamers to play more which results in higher attach rates.

I do think Nintendo wins because the owners buy games FULL price more regularly( looking at Amazon) and their Financials.

He's not wrong, and it's clear that is who Microsoft has been catering to the last few years with the X and the Elite Controller. Game Pass, All Access, and the potential for a streaming alternative to a dedicated console next generation would be attempts at capturing the casual market.

I so proud for not being a hardcore gamer. Just a softgamer beating Bloodborne 10 times.

Weird statement considering they need to give out games for free via GamesPass for people to care about a lot of the content gamers on Switch and PS4 are willing to pay for.

Couple of good months and they are already dropping these kind of statements...getting flashback of arrogant MS at the end of last and beginning of this generation.
