Yakuza Online started pre-registration today in Japan with an announcement trailer with a better look at the new protagonist.

You can see some screenshots of the game if you scroll down a bit.

As with the title "Like a Dragon," Ichiban sporting a Dragon tattoo too, I guess...

Can't wait to see his fighting style.

His face expression looks wilder than Kiryu.

We'll be caught up on the console games once Fist of the Northstar gets released. Since the translation team is done with kiwami 2 and a different team did FOTN, i sorta hope that they are already working on Shin Yakuza to make the wait even shorter.
Or they could be working on Yakuza online but i would think someone else would do it, maybe the ones who did the translation for SMT Liberation.

And hopefully they are working on Yakuza 3 in English. It'll be nice to play that in English finally, I got a weird beta on the PS3 a few years back but it was missing half the content for some odd reason ;)

Received an email from Sega informing me about the pre-registration for the RGG mobile / browser game (they constantly send me newsletters about other mobile games because I play PSO2 from time to time). Looking at the screenshots it sure looks like a browser / mobile game. Very curious about the story though. I'm sure some people will do translations / summaries about what is happening in the game. I might check it out myself even. An English translation would definitely be cool at some point. I mean Gran Blue Fantasy (a similar game to this) also is available in English and very popular.

That being said: KIWAMI 2 TOMORROW!!!!

Kiwami 2 is out of stock in a lot of online places in UK, seems like they shipped conservatively. Still waiting for the standard version.

Oh yeah.
Don't know why i thought he would have anything other than a dragon tattoo, it would makes no sense considering the game name.

I love the contrast between it and Kiryu's tattoo. The black scales look nice.

It's kinda weird how both his and Kiryu's are incomplete, though. The lack of background is very weird in their tattoos, even real yakuza members say it doesn't look right.

Compare it to Shimano's, which is a "real" irezumi:

Some of the art looks great!

This is so, so fucking good.

I really want a proper Atlus/Sega Persona/RGG crossover RPG, lol.

Is it really incomplete? All the dragon tattoos in the game are done the same way, seems like Shimano/Majima style full back tattoos are the minority, the majority of Horitomo tattoos in game are without background.

What I mean is that the full-style suits are what actual real-life yakuza wear. You never see an authentic irezumi tattoo Kiryu's without the background shading.

But, perhaps the studio intentionally does this to make Kiryu/Ichiban/Saejima appear less villainous.

Oh yes in real life they have the full suit.

Seems more of a design choice, i can only remember about 5 characters with the full back tattoos in game.

That's a good point. In the past, I'd wondered about this myself, but just shrugged it off. Maybe someone will get the chance to ask Sato or Nagoshi about it in the future.

I am happy to report that I've gotten Kiwami 2's Platinum Trophy! It took a bit longer than it did in Yakuza 6 but it was still easier than Yakuza 5's Plat.

I think I remember the artist who does all the tats saying it's super fucking hard to draw them due to getting the texture wrapping around the character right. Dunno if it has anything to do with it tho

had to stop because of work and other stuff, but I'm enjoying it, like beginning portion with
the full flashback to Kiwami 1.

Is there an OT going up soon?

A bit late, but i got my Yakuza Kiwami platinum today. Finished the story and some side content last year, then took a break to play some other games. Got Yakuza 6 at launch but got sidetracked by other things until a month ago. Enjoyed it a lot, despite the technical issues and lighter content, so when i wrapped that up and was still in the mood, i finally returned to Kiwami. The weapon and gear collectathon was a bit tedious, Legend was very easy on NG+, but that highway chase in Ch. 9, oh man. That was quite something. Almost had it last night after my 5th or 6th attempt, probably needed to hit the truck driver another couple of times, but then i stupidly decided to take cover and let the car take a hit before finishing him off, only the car didn't have enough "health" anymore, so i failed. Decided to quit for the night and try again when i'm well rested, but it still took me another 5 or so tries today. XD

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that you need to restart the whole chapter to get back to the chase segment. There are two fights against mobs and the boss after that insists on going through 3 stages of the fight even though you already beat him down to 1% in the first stage. Not to mention the 9 (skippable) cutscenes in-between all of that. It doesn't even take that long (6 minutes once you get it down, in my estimate), but it's annoying and breaks your concentration for the highway part. Anyway, practice makes perfect (or near enough) and it did feel rewarding in the end. Here's my successful attempt, if anyone wants to check it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB1fnrPTmX4

Impeccable timing with Kiwami 2 coming out today, but now i really need a break, so i'll probably play it in a month or so. :D

P.S.: Is it me, or does it sound like Kazuma is saying "Asshole!" every time you use heat eye during the chase? Feels very appropriate for that section.

Its about the time of the year where the team start hyping up their new games (as is evident by Online popping back up this week). Can't wait, between this and the rest of the Sega/Capcom news of late its been amazing!

So I had started Yakuza 0 way back in June first week. After a lengthy and very enjoyable session of 3-4 hours, when started the game again, got highly pissed when I came to know there is no auto-save. Weird that in-spite of a lengthy tutorial, game never tells you this.

Anyways, started the game again few days back and loving every second of it. Need few suggestions as I dont want to get stuck later in the game and get forced to replay/grind un-necessarily.

- Which fighting style should I invest in or it doesnt matter? Currently spending on Rush style.
- Side stories played so far were triggered automatically while I was just going through some random street. Other than using a walkthrough, is there any way to track all the side stories available? These are amazing and I dont want to miss any.
- I dont quite understand the combat system. For example, in the fight against Kuze I was waiting for him to attack, so that I can evade and then counter-attack. But he was just standing with a stance at a distance. As soon as I start attacking him, mid-attack, he is landing multiple hits on me. I'm not clear, what I am supposed to do :(

- I think that all the styles are viable in different contexts -- for Kiryu, I usually used Rush when I could isolate an enemy and Brawler/Beast when there were multiple enemies and/or objects in the environment that could be used as weaponry. For Majima, the further into the game I got the more I stuck with his Slugger style (the XXXY attack is ridiculously good against both crowds and individuals).
- You can get an item later that will highlight sidestory locations on the map, but there's no shame in using a guide either since a lot of them do indeed require you walking into a certain random area.
- You just have to wait him out -- try lowering your guard to bait him into attacking. He'll come at you eventually. As you've seen, it's almost never a good idea to attack someone who's guarding, especially a boss battle.

I haven't played any Dragon Engine games because of a lack of PS4 but I hope they won't "fix" the ragdoll enemies. Punching someone and see them fly is so satisfying to me. I don't know if it was an unintended consequence, but it adds to the Yakuza experience in my opinion. It 's just another layer of fun.

If anything Rag doll is even more powerful/hilarious with the new engine. Its so funny/satisfying to hit enemies with a strong attack and see them fly backwards with extreme force.

It's so beautiful. I haven't done much yet, started chapter 2 and did some substories. But just walking around, seeing Kiryu again, seeing Sotonbori in the Dragon Engine (I did play the Japanese demo when it came out but I forgot how beautiful the town looks in the new engine) and taking photos -- beautiful. I just love this series so much and re-playing Yakuza 2 with additional content and a new look just feels amazing. Very much looking forward digging deeper into it. Ended my first session with some karaoke, will likey try out some Virtua On and Golf the next time. Oh the Toylets mini-game is hilarious. Especially the face Kiryu makes before the "action" starts.

You know you're playing a Yakuza game when the game clock says 7 hours and all you did so far was playing Virtua On, Virtua Fighter 2 and a lot of other mini-games as well as doing sub stories, haha... I'm surprised by how much Virtua Fighter 2 kicked my ass. I wasn't able to beat it, had to quit after spending like 40 minutes trying to beat Kage. It's weird because when I was playing Yakuza 5 I had no problem at all beating it. And it was the cabinet with the easy difficulty in Sotenbori even. I'm in chapter 4 now and I'm loving every second of the remake so far.

Just picked up Zero yesterday and finished the first chapter. I'm playing on Hard. I'm really enjoying it at the moment. This is my first Yakuza game and I think I'll have to pick up more if the game just keeps getting better after this.

8 hours in, and now I finally have gotten to the cabaret stuff in Kiwami 2 lol. So far, I have to say I'm enjoying most of the remake changes from the original Yakuza 2.

I did the heat attack where Kiryu does the straight downwards punch on an enemy laying faceup on the ground on North Sotenbori footpath to end a fight, and the enemy flew 10 feet into the air and into the river rofl

Ok, chapter 11 on 3 Remaster complete. Story spoilers of course:

So this chapter has two of the best scenes in the entire series in my opinion, and they hold up oh so well even after watching them many times:

Nakahara's burst of strength and Saki yelling out to him. Executed wonderfully seeing Saki cry out for her old man (after being mute the entire game) would have been powerful enough alone. But no, its even better. Nakahara beast the crap out of a bull even though he's recovering from a gunshot wound (and presumeably being roughed up from Tamashiro as well). Shows that the old man is not all talk, and is in fact insanely powerful. The look on Tamashiro's face is priceless.

Rikiya's death. Was the number 1 most powerful scene for me before 6's ending, and its still so damn powerful even now. The voice acting for both Kiryu and Rikiya here is amazing, the song playing in the background sets the scene perfectly and its just all round fantastic, even if you take into account the whole "turning your back on an armed enemy" thing is kinda silly.
.

Complain about the slower pace or wacky plot points in part in Yakuza 3 all you want, but those two scenes alone elevate 3 above most of the series for me. And shows just why I think the series is so damn good in terms of story/characters, blows away 99% of all other game stories right there.

And now I have the final chapter, which is just epic. Can't wait.

Oh, and I played loads more Mahjong, the trophy you need is tough to get as the hand it requires you to get has so many requirements to it...

Right on, Shadow. Nakahara and Rikiya were some major highlights of 3. Agree with the spoilered text.

Damn, I can't stop playing the Cabaret Club mini game in 0.It's amazingly fun.

It's been two days and I haven't made any progress in the main game. I think I've memorized all the hand signals the girls do when they ask for help, but is there any way of knowing for sure if the guest wants to extend his time?

There's no way to tell for sure, although it seemed to happen with increasing frequency the higher level my hostesses were.

Another long night session in Kiwami 2 and another big chunk of side content done. I also unlocked the gravure photo shoot mini game and...

It's pretty funny. A simple mini-game but some of the sentences you can make are quite hilarious. They even recorded failure footage where the model reacts to your wrong articulated sentences.

Ah, Ok. And hostesses stay in their "tier", right? A Bronze hostess cannot level up to become silver, can she? I guess not since the higher tier hostesses have much more detailed character models than the butterface Bronzes, heh.

Also many 30fps cutscenes which I assumed were pre-rendered are actually real time!
