Mine was GameFAQs' message boards, in October 2000. It was about a month after I had got the internet at home, and I mainly joined to post in a user-made challenge thread for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Then I found myself mainly posting in Random Insanity...I wonder if that's still around.

18 years ago, blimey. And you?

OP, you just counting web forums?

Or are you also counting dial-up BBSes, Telnet boards, and Usenet boards?

gamereactor.se

Used to be a free magazine in Sweden during the mid 00's. Forums where mainly a platform for teens to do the usual console wars. It was quite fun for a while I must admit...

Edit: amazed that the site still exists with the same editor-in-chief. He was quite a jerk at times and caused a lot of users and staff to leave, myself included.

I was pretty late to the Internet forum thing. I used to mess around on ICQ and Hotel Chat, but the first proper forum I joined was Whitechapel, I think. It was run by Warren Ellis and he did not like me at all.

It was either gamefaqs or imdb (RIP). I don't remember my log in for gamefaqs anymore but my imdb account was created in 2004.

Legitimately can't remember. I know neoseeker was one of the early ones, but also remember signing up for a devil may cry, and a final fantasy forum at some point. Not sure which was first though

Gamespot back around '99. Gamefaqs the next year and IGN in '01 (still have account there). Then an assortment of other forums like IMDB, SomethingAwful, and anime forums until Gaf in '07.

I'm old enough to remember AOL chat rooms though. Cost $3 an hour on dial up.

KHInsider lol I was searching the net for KH2 news and stumbled on the site. This would've been like 2004, when I was 11 or 12.

I think mine was probably Serebiiforums, around the time Pokemon Gen 3 came out and I was actively looking up Pokemon stuff online.

Neogaf, this forum and that forum are pretty much the only forums I've ever been to/participated in.

Gamefaqs in 96 I think it was. I remember it was the same time I was searching for Street Fighter Alpha FAQs for PS1

Neogaf. Didnt really care about gaming news until the PS4 and Xbox One was announced. All the hype and excitement around the new consoles got me interested in gaming discussion/news. Then one day I stumbled upon Neogaf and that was the begining of my forum days. Its sad to see what that place has become now.

The alt.games.quake newsgroup in 1996(ish). I remember a load of Quake sub groups started and I joined some of those.

rec.games.computer.quake.editing? Something like that anyway. Shit, over 20 years!

I signed up for IGN way back in either 2000 or 2001 to take part in the Gamecube forums. This user named Olimario used to always post stuff from GAF on the IGN boards, so I found my way to GAF, leaving IGN behind, and now I'm here. Those are the only three forums I've ever been an active member of.

I started looking at forums mainly for the car I owned at the time, my first was a Ford Focus based forum that had fellow enthusiasts of the car who worked on theirs as well. I went through a few of those for various cars before asking the question on VW Vortex about where people found their gaming news, one person said GAF was all you needed. These days I don't bother with car forums since I don't really mod my cars anymore, now it's just Era really.

FUS (Fans United for SatAM)

I was young, and made some really, really dumb posts. My account there has long since been deleted for inactivity.

Maybe Bjorn3D.com

That was a Rendition Verite fansite back in the 90s IIRC.

Honestly, I can't be sure. I think it was either that or an emulation site that I can no longer recall the name of.

Might have been the various uk gaming based newsgroups in the early 2000s, can't remember the exact names now. At some point I did have a gamefaqs account but I can't say I used the forums much. The first forum I was actually decently active on was SegaXtream.

GameRankings.com

I think I was 12 when I got an account there and just lied about my age constantly. If I ever found posts from myself I would be extremely embarrassed I'm sure.

Probably tip.it runescape forum in mid 2000s. Would love/hate to remember my username so I could see my posts

mkdd.net, a Mario Kart: Double Dash forum. Couldn't wait for that game back then. Was probably somewhere around 2003. It was where my username originated as well. Luigi had always been my character of choice in Mario Kart and Mario Party games and I was eating pizza at the time of creating the account. This was 15 years ago, I was 11. Times past.

The one that was attached to MXtabs.net, I think it was officially called musicianforums? Everyone called it MX though.

Eventually the site evolved into Sputnik Music.

Not sure about the actual first one but the first one I was super active in was Phantasy Star Online's biggest German community MIATeam.
Gut sucked in just before the GameCube release. I still visit the board every now and then.
After that it was TheSixthAxis, then GAF and then Era.

snk-capcom.com was my first. It was a fighting game focused forum that I visited daily for years before moving on to someplace else.

Napster forum I think, people on the internet were still assholes in late 90s and early 2000s as well.

Gamestm (a gaming magazine in the UK) forums back in around 2005. I actually have the same avatar still.

My first forum didn't even have a sign-up function; you just wrote your username for every post and trusted other users wouldn't use your name to impersonate you.

It was a small emulation website called One Minute Left in the Second Period, mostly supplying SNES ROMs.
