It's really easy to understand that it's a coping mechanism.
Fuck, just going online today and reading this news out of nowhere. Fucking scary how frequent these shootings are. Guess it was only a matter of time before a pasty-looking alt-right fuckhead couldn't hide his feelings anymore and had to shoot up a place. Of course, no one with power will do anything to prevent future shootings from occurring and the cycle will repeat because we live in a shithole country.
I tend to translate "God was with me" comments by survivors as "I am very relieved that I am OK". I understand that a strictly literal interpretation can have some unsettling connotations, but I tend to give people who just survived a life-threatening event a pass on that.
I still get where they're coming from, but let's not turn this into a debate about religion.

I know, but think of the mothers of the dead and how they feel reading that. I realize the stress and don't like criticizing victims, but that's a really insensitive thing to say.
The meaning is, "everything that happens in this world is up to fate, and I'm not responsible for anything."
Feel free to dislike the dude, but he is right in this case. Media loves to use gaming as an easy scapegoat, and no one writing stories for them is likely to understand what tournaments are really about.

This is not the time nor the place to debate about religion. Let people express their relief that their loved ones are ok the way they want. Let people grieve how they wish.

I saw that even the governor of Florida went to visit them, hopefully they try to do something to combat this crap.

Honestly if the people of Florida are this ignorant, it would explain why the state is a hot bed for mass shootings. Not all religious people apply their religion in such a stupid, irresponsible way. This brand of "belief" deserves to be called out for how pernicious it is to society.

It's not religion, it's the weakness of the FL legislatures who are more beholden to the gun lobby than any other state. It's pretty well documented. Florida leads the country in weakening gun laws. Fuck this state to hell.
The US is a lost cause, these shootings happen all the time and nothing changes, just #ThoughtsAndPrayers.
Guns are designed to do one thing only, to kill whatever you aim them at and no private citizen should be able to own such weapons. A case can be made for owning hunting rifles, but handguns/assault rifles cannot be justified.
When nothing changes after a white guy murders 20 kids in a school, why should anything ever change. The US has a major fucking gun problem and it cannot be compared to when Australia or the UK changed their gun laws, but no attempt at change is being made despite it being the only country in the world with these insane problems.
RIP to the victims and the many more to come in the future caused by a government that repeatedly has failed its citizens.

I have family in Florida, and they seem to want to attend Fighting Game tournaments and stuff, this news just scares the living shit out of me and has had me stressed all day.
My aunt, uncle and cousins live in Wheeling.
