Okay I hate to be that guy, but almost none of these are proper mashups. They just took an instrumental of one track and layered the vocals from another track on top. I guess it's technically a mashup, but it's lazy.

No, that's pretty much what mashups are. They don't all have to be difficulty edited for them to qualify, with people pitch and tempo shifting and what not.

And that mashup is pretty old that predated even before Carly's release of her EMOTION album.

Pop music is never just about the music, it's also about the artist/image behind it... Carly is so cutesy, friendly, and is not scandalous... she is boring by most pop star standards. And you need that bigger than life image to compete for attention.

Yeah I think she is a bit of meme because of "call me maybe" and the seal saxophone gif; and Hideo Kojima comparisons lol but I'd say she's pretty acclaimed now too. She just lends herself to memes for whatever reason.

But at the same time she's legit! I need a CRJ album in 2019.

I don't know how you pretend to like some shit when you could just as easily listen to the thing? Every person I've ever known to listen to Emotion and the b-sides loves both almost front to back.

One of my favorite NIN mashups. I don't know anything about Ludacris but this just works really well.

One of my favs has always been Girl Talk. He has some good mashups.

Lately I've been a big fan of the little known YouTuber named DJ Cummerbund. Now that's some high level shitty mashup-ing.
