Went to Jack in the Box, ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl, which comes with an egg roll, and two tacos. The woman asks me if I want any sauce. I say "just the ones that normally come with that stuff." I get home, and she threw ketchup in the bag. Nothing else. I was expecting, you know, Teriyaki sauce, sweet and sour sauce, and taco sauce. Am I wrong to have assumed those would be the "normal" stuff for those items?

Similarly, what is up with McDonalds not giving your ketchup with fries unless you ask for it?

probably, if you want something specific, you should probably say exactly what you expect to get when they ask you what you want

she was trying to teach you this important life lesson

She likely made a mistake or wasn't paying attention, in regards to the lack of teriyaki sauce.
As far as the ketchup for fries at McDonalds and other places? It's largely to save a few pennies here and there because they ultimately do add up.

I personally hate when they limit you to how much you can ask for. This is particularly evident when it comes to McNugget sauces.

Lol do they really pair a "Chicken Teriyaki Bowl" (whatever that actually is) + an egg roll, with tacos? My first thought was that it sounded like a disgusting combination, then you mention that they gave you ketchup for these things...

Awful.

As for McD's, I just think that modern McDonald's is really stingy when it comes to things like that, penny pinching on everything.

lol naw, I just ordered tacos on top of the meal. I unironically love their tacos. I also love to point out that they can't legally call them beef tacos, so they just refer to them as generic "tacos." I worked at Jack in the Box as a teen, and their training videos made note to point out that we could never call them Beef Tacos, haha. Same videos also made sure to point out that we had to tell people that they also were NOT vegetarian.

OP, where do you go that includes the tacos with the bowl and egg roll? It's usually just bowl and egg roll?

Oh okay that makes more sense, but still imagining eating fast food "American Chinese" and "American Mexican" at the same time doesn't sound particularly appealing to me lol. Never done that though so idk.

I'm not going to lie, but if I worked there I'd assume that the teriyaki bowl had teriyaki sauce already on it. is that a new item? Maybe the person who made it screwed up?

I'm actually in favor of the "no ketchup unless you ask" policy. Normally you get way too many of those stupid packets, and lead to lots of unnecessary trash

I did when I worked that job. I specifically remember being in this exact same situation, on the other side. And no, I didnt' throw fucking ketchup in their bag.

And they "didn't make my decision" for me. I knew what I wanted.

If i have specific sauces i want I'm going to make sure to ask for them specifically, sure it would have been nice for them to put some thought into the sauces they gave you, and good for you for doing it when you were in that situation, but i certainly wouldn't expect it.

Teriyaki bowls have been on the menu for like 20 years.

The way you make them, you honestly cannot make this mistake. You put the bowl of rice in the microwave, then you take it out, then you get a bag of chicken and microwave it, then dump it into the bowl, then you get a bag of "greens"and microwave them, and dump them into the bowl. You see every item at every moment, and it's very clear there is no teriyaki sauce on any of it.

Chicken teriyaki bowl doesn't come with teriyaki on the chicken; it's supposed to come with it on the side.

They shouldn't have had to put any thought into it. It comes with the meal.

This would have been something I would have went back to correct, and I would have talked to the person in charge. I've had a kid forget to put the grilled chicken on my grilled chicken sandwich before and give me bread with lettuce. These aren't simple mistakes.

Fair enough, didn't realize it typically came on the side instead of in the bowl

McDonald's is just really cheap. I was scolded while working there for giving someone ketchup who didn't ask for any and another time for giving more than 4 packets per fries.
