Recently got word from my mom. This is just fucking horifying.

Multiple people were killed in a mass shooting during a video game tournament at a shopping and dining complex in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Sunday afternoon.

Preliminary reports say four people were killed of the 11 people who were shot at the Jacksonville Landing, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the incident.
One suspect, identified only as a white man, is dead at the scene, Sheriff Mike Williams said at a news conference, adding that there were no outstanding suspects. The Sheriff's Office said on Twitter there were "multiple" fatalities and "many" transported to hospitals.
At least three people injured in the shooting were transported to Memorial Hospital and all are in stable condition, hospital spokesperson Pete Moberg said. One person is being treated for a minor injury at Baptist Medical Center, spokesperson Cindy Hamilton said.

The shooting occurred at the Jacksonville Landing complex during a qualifying event for the Madden 19 Tournament at the GLHF Game Bar, according to the Twitter of CompLexity Gaming, one of the gaming teams.
The Landing is an open-air marketplace with stores, bars and restaurants in downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns River.
On an online stream of the Madden event posted to the website Twitch, several loud gunshots can be heard and the game abruptly stops.
After several gunshots, people scream and one person cries out, "Oh f**, what'd he shoot me with?" The stream did not show the shooting.
The event was the Southeastern Qualifier for the Madden NFL Championship Series for Madden NFL 18, according to the bar's Facebook page.
"This is your chance to earn your spot in the first Major's Live Finals happening in October 2018. Don't hesitate to secure your spot," the post read in part.

It should also be noted that twitter clip is harrowing and that you should consider this before clicking on it.

Oh, my apologies. Can a mod lock this thread please?
This is gonna get locked. They don't want it on gaming side for some reason.

I hope they don't lock this. This stuff should be a cause for concern within all the small communities in the overall gaming community.

EVO already announced tightening security and i imagine others will follow. That horrific video was streamed on Twitch for christ sakes. Gamers and gaming side should mourn their fellow gamers.

Whether we talk about it or not its going to affect us all at some point. Likely future gaming events.

I think it deserves to be on the gaming side. Preferably bringing the other thread here.

Man, why are shootings so common? I don't know if I'm just more aware of it or if times are changing but they feel like they happen more often and they're never any less tragic. I can only offer my condolences to the victims

I think it's important to have a thread on gaming side. This is a national tragedy that directly relates to our hobby and our community. For all we know people from this very site could've been involved.

I'd make a longer post about this terrible incident itself, but I think I've said everything I wanted to in the Etcetera thread.

That stream hurts. Too real. It amazes me how many events lack even the least bit of security/screening.

That clip is absolutely horrifying, guns make killing so easy - I hope one day USA steps up and realizes this.
Rest in Peace to all the victims and families to involved.

This should be on gaming side in some form. People on this side don't always go to other parts of the site and they should be aware of this gaming news.

Not going to bring myself to watch the video. People just wanted to game man. We really need to do something about the availability of guns in the US.

This is like if someone was killed by a drunk driver and you said that even if he didn't have a car he could have tripped and run into the person so hard they died.

Nobody thinks guns are spontaneously killing people. They are an efficient tool for killing people, thus they are a large part of the problem. If this guy only had access to knives several people would still be alive.

Because America is diseased, and values its right to own guns over the lives of its children.

This entirely. And some will even have the guts to say that guns are not the cause of these shootings, or that it's too early to have such debate. Well, there's literally a mass shooting every months or so, morons...
Fucking hell. Condolences to those who lost someone today.

I expect security to be dramatically beefed up at all future video game tournaments and trade shows. I also expect international competitors to be less likely to travel to America over safety concerns.

This absolutely belongs on gaming side, frankly. It's directly related to gaming.

The toxic culture surrounding this whole thing must be discussed.
