Now I wish they had a 24h embargo :/
It's so hard to not get spoiled with social media and YT recommandations esp with these story driven games. Man I'm gonna be so pissed if this happen with TLOU 2 too lol.

Sony should definitely look into this.

Come on, it's really not that hard at all to avoid major spoilers.

It's certainly not worth sacrificing early reviews for the spoiler hypersensitivity mania.

For YouTube, install video blocker.

Will do thanks :)
I wish we would all get the game at the same time too. It's silly to wait for reviews for sure fire hits. No one needs TLOU PT. II a week early. We all know it's going to be exceptional. Reviews are just free marketing for good games. I would say they are worthless, but for non-enthusiasts, they are useful for day 1 purchases.

Yeah it's just how it works, early reviews did great for GoW .
Come on, it's really not that hard at all to avoid major spoilers.

You'd be surprised I got spoiled a key moment of GoW on twitter.

Can someone explain to me why Sony first party games keep leaking days or weeks before release ? It happenned with Uncharted 4, Horizon, God of War and now Spider-Man....

This is becoming annoying
I'm assuming that they print out the retail copies early to secure a worldwide release, in which everyone worldwide can play the game around the same time. Depending on where they print the disc, they might have to ship them early to other countries. Some countries or even a mom and pop shop could end up getting copies earlier than usual. And they probably sell them without any knowledge of the repercussions (which to this day I haven't heard any mom and pop shop getting banned from selling a game early).

Be careful people. There are some gigantic assholes on twitter right now, spoiling #SpiderManPS4 with images etc. One wrong click and you got spoiled. And that's not all. They're harassing Insomniac devs. Some fanboy extremists are complete lunatics.

It's shitty that people are doing that. But maybe, don't give the game out two weeks in advance to your pals? Once you give it out, you don't control the messaging anymore. You don't know who might get their hands on it after you hand it to your trusted friend. If you want to control the game and spoilers, then forego your shiny review scores and let the normal release take its course. I like James, he's awesome, but that answer is awfully aggressive considering this was obviously going to happen. I'm really getting sick of the complaints about spoilers from publishers and developers when they are the ones giving the game out.

And what I ultimately don't understand is why they gave it out so early anyway. Did they really think these game reviewers who are also the biggest shills for comic books wouldn't spend enough time with this specific game before reviewing it? It makes no sense at all.

The "harassing devs" and "spoiling the game just for the sake of ruining others experiences with the game" flew over your head?

Oh I saw your "Awful, BUT...." comment. And James being "awfully aggressive"? Really? If you harass people on social media, you're a jackass. If you spoil games/movies (whatever) on social media, just to ruin the experience for others, you're an asshole. To tell these people that they are getting blocked if they act like jackasses & assholes was the best thing James could do in this situation.

If you didn't know this shu was a very strict businessman the only reason he became so nice it was because of his kids. Greg miller talked about this in one of hes shows.

Russian Shulette!.

https://www.dualshockers.com/shu-yo...ion-stories-shared-at-playstation-experience/

Rhode mentioned that Yoshida-san appeared pretty intimidating during the earliest period he was working with him, so everyone at SCEA was quite afraid to send over bad news to the Japanese executive. That caused the act of sending the mail including said bad news to be called by some "Russian Shulette."

Yes and I already acknowledged this. You picked out of my comment what you wanted. And if you had actually read my comment, you would see I was taking issue with the complaints about spoilers. But you didn't do that, did you? No, you decided to pick the lowest, ugliest thing he was talking about and suggest I didn't care about it. Real cool there, guy.

If they didn't give out the game early people would start a narrative that the game might suck and they're wanting to avoid reviews before release, lose lose situation basically and I feel they made the right choice giving out copies early to get the reviews out faster.

Honestly if the spoilers to this game bother anyone that much stay off social media/youtube until launch.

Whatever, dude. James wrote a good tweet and it makes absolutely sense. There was nothing "awfully aggressive" there. And I hope all devs are starting to do that. Post one spoiler and/or asshole-ish tweet and get blocked immediatelly.

I agree about the blocking part, guy. Again, I never once took issue with that.

A narrative is just a narrative. The people who care that much about spreading something like that, or buying into it, don't care about the game anyway. And they don't need to be served. Is bending over backwards really worth the couple thousand of people who perpetuate these lies and theories? However, I agree about your spoiler solution of staying off social media until the game is out. That's another reason why complaints about spoilers are stupid. They are completely avoidable, whether it's you (not you specifically, Betty) staying off places that want to show unreleased content, or a publisher not giving content out so far in advance, these things are self-inflicted wounds.

The leaks aren't coming from people who were given the game under strict NDAs/Embargoes and are trusted partners.

And look, there's certain levels of, hey a copy is going to get stolen or leaked and people will post online. 13 days out is pretty good all things considered. Harassing and attempting to spoil people out of spite or whatever it is, is messed up.

I literally never said they were coming from people at IGN or Walmart. I said once a copy gets out into the wild, you don't control the message anymore and you don't know where it goes after handing it off to someone else. Whether that's via leaks through a stolen copy or a broken embargo, it happens all the same. And if you read my messages from above, you'd see that I said harassing and ruining the fun isn't okay. Jeez.

I think the issue is with "But maybe, don't give the game out two weeks in advance to your pals?" Makes it sound like you're implying Insomniac's developers gave it to their friends and family, etc. and not just reviewers and the like who are under NDA.

If the word "pals" is causing this much pain, then that is not what I intended. "Pals" meant retail partners and reviewers in that original post. I thought that was obvious. I will take note, though.

pals / trusted friends made your post seem /very/ personal and attacking.

If it makes you understand the situation better, no one at insomniac, not even me, has a retail PSN code or retail disc for the game yet.

Would you want to play it without the day one patch? I'd probably wait, assuming it's not already done.

you absolutely shouldn't, there's a couple big things in there. That said, one of those is in the Day 0 patch that's live right now, all of those fixes will be rolled into the Day 1 patch that everybody gets on launch day (it includes Photo mode, among some other things).

Details on all of that to come

Oof. Hope those patches won't be too big. Ah, but will they be downloaded immediately when pre-loading? (first time doing a digital pre-order!)

What? Do you not understand how this works? Games have to be shipped prior to being sold. Games that are going to sell millions need to be shipped with enough time that the stores actually get them in time for the launch date. Do you want them to not have the game be sold by launch? And forego review scores? But those folks aren't spoiling it, so why does it matter if they get it early or not?

Trust me, I see that now. I will most definitely change my wording from now on, so I don't have to be met with outrage tone.

And I believe you about the codes/disks, but there was already pictures of shipping containers with PS4 copies of Spider-Man in warehouses, unless I'm mistaken. From the start, I figured it was an illegitimate copy that probably slipped out from a place like that.

Some interesting tidbits:

- Rafael Grassetti (principal artist on God of War) has been promoted to Art Director.
- Mihir Sheth is now lead combat designer (previously technical designer)
- Jeet Shroff is promoted to Gameplay Director (previously Gameplay/AI Engineering Lead)

for sure- I mean, to put millions of copies of games in hundreds of thousands of stores around the world, you have to have insane distribution and logistics, and to do that on time, that means palettes of copies getting shipped, broken into smaller boxes, shipped.

That's not pal-ling around though, that's just shipping a AAA video game in 2018.

anyways, sorry if I was outrage-y, I'm a touch more sensitive than usual right now

No need for you to apologize. Based on the responses, it was clearly my mistake. And I can't even imagine how you guys at Insomnic feel right now. But I have loved Insomniac's work since the first Ratchet&Clank. So I'm supporting this game too. Got the digital deluxe on PSN waiting for pre load.

There's an issue I have on the board where people will either make stuff up or accidentally spread bad information, but I wish some would just own up to those mistakes as you just did.

Good form.
