Dragon Quest XI Hype Check

I'll get it in December when I finish Spiderman and AC Odyssey.

The weird midi file music in the game is really killing me. It's so jarring when paired next to the relatively high production values of the game.

I've loved Dragon Quest my entire life. Super excited to finally play this :D

I really want to play it but it's proximity to Spider-Man, Tomb Raider, and Torna is a deal breaker unfortunately. Hopefully I'll be able to fit it in sometime down the line though.

Huge DQ fan but unfortunately this came out at a terrible time. As i am knee deep in BFA at the moment.

I'm opting for Spider-Man first. Chiefly because the OST issue. I just really don't want to pay full price for a sub par version of a product.

Excited for it, but will wait until it's $40.

Can't wait. Going to play on Steam. Very excited for this.

I think I'll get it during the Steam winter sale. I'm hyped for it but not like day 1 hyped I guess? I got a big backlog and there is so much competition this upcoming holiday season.

The only DQ game I've played is DQVIII, and that's a game that I really liked!


I haven't really been following DQXI too closely, but after seeing recent previews for the localized version, I think I'm officially hyped and in on day one!

Having never played a DQ game before, I'm surprisingly hyped for this. I love the art style and the personality the game exudes. The stuff about the music is disappointing but with no prior experience with the games midi soundtrack, it shouldn't be that huge of a distraction for me.

Don't know. Just know I'm eager to play it. The last two Square games I've played have been some of the best games I've ever played, so I expect this to be good.

The lack of hype in this thread actually convinced me to pre-order on GMG just now.

If I want the franchise to thrive, I might as well take one for the team.

Do we know how content rich the game is? Like, how does it compare to VIII which is the only other DQ game I played (and loved)?

It's going to be my first DQ game but I feel like I should finish Octopath Traveler first. Definitely excited for it. If not for OT, it would be a day 1.

Ready for this to be out already. I feel like we've been waiting for years.

I'm in. This and Divinity Sin my next 2 games. Everything else can wait.

Out in the wrong time. If it came out a month ago, I'd be playing. But Delve league is going to take all my gaming time. :|

I feel like I would REALLY love it! However Spiderman comes out so shortly after and I have so many other long RPG's to play. Not to mention that I'm in college...

God there needs to be more hours in a day.

Nearly everything VIII has to do, XI has in equal or greater amounts, though sometimes it's been implemented in a different way in order to expand/refine the idea. The biggest element I can think of from VIII that's not in XI are probably the monster capturing/battling features.

The series personality is the most charming thing about it, even without this level of graphic. If that's your thing, you're in for a treat.

After the spyro delay I'll probably pick this up. Normally I'd play yakuza 2 instead but I have to be in the mood for those games.

My most wanted game at the moment. Pre-ordered months ago. I am pretty sure this will easily be the best JRPG of this generation.

My most awaited game since DQVIII.
Cannot believe that it is releasing so soon, watched only the first trailer and i am on blackout since then.

I probably would be a lot more hyped if the world map theme, the music you likely hear the most in the game isn't so cancerous.

The art style lends itself perfectly to the Switch, so I'll only be buying it on that. Any indication as to when Switch release is?

Also, I hope they A) tone down the music or B) give us an option to turn it down/off completely...

Extremely hyped! The 4K footage I've seen looks fantastic on PS4 Pro and I think it will be good in a lot of different settings. I could see myself kicking back with Remote Play and grinding away for hours on the Vita under the covers this one, and then kicking up the 4K TV for the bigger story moments and battles. I'm extremely excited for it.

Also, I've heard that the PS4 version was made by a studio comprised of former Cavia employees who worked on Drakengard/Nier. Is that true? Pretty exciting if so, since I love those games.

Gonna wait for the Switch version. I've learnt there are certain games I enjoy in handheld form a lot more like Octopath Traveller so I'm guessing this will be very similar.

It depends on the port of course but so far I'm waiting.

Man i hope the Switch version is not close at this point, i would be pretty bummed out if they stayed in silence for an eternity, which pushed me to get the PS4 ver., only for them to release the NS port in 6 months.

I was going to say the same thing. Let's be honest here, whatever artstyle they'll choose for the visuals of the Switch version, they would look even greater and more polished with the additional horsepower of PS4 and PC. I will be playing it on PS4 Pro, but I guess especially the PC version will look sublime.
I expect the Switch version to be a visually downgraded port of the PS4/PC versions, and they will probably have to downgrade the visuals quite significantly. They can't cut the framerate in half like with Doom or Wolfenstein to gain some extra resources, because it is already a 30fps game, and even the base PS4 version doesn't manage to run the game in full HD but in 900p.The long radio silence on the Switch version probably indicates that it won't be an easy and quick task.

I'm in the "hyped to buy it in December for 50-70% off" camp.

I've been looking forward to it, but I just don't have the time in September. We just bought board games like gloomhaven and darklight: Memento mori. My schedule is full

I'm really excited for it, but going to wait until late September as Spider-Man and Pro Evo will keep me occupied for a while. Plus Destiny 2 Forsaken of course.
