RIP. I hope his final days were relatively painless.
With public figures a public announcement like that is unfortunately almost always way closer to the end than with a similar news from a private citizen.
Man. Disagreed with him and disliked a lot of his policy positions a whole hell of a lot (though also aligned with him on a couple things, campaign finance reform in particular), but he has been such a staple of American politics for so long and the face of a Republican Party that is now virtually extinct that it's strange to imagine him gone. More than that, he was a war hero who gave more for his country than any one person should ever be asked to give.

Yeah I've read about the type before. Honestly amazed he lived as long as he did at that age.
Heroes don't use their last actions on Earth to ensure that fascists remain in power.
If he wanted to be remembered as a hero he should have resigned and let the people elect the next senator in his place.
From my admittedly limited perspective he seemed like one of the few Republicans (if not just the one) that I could respect even if I disagreed with him and never would have voted for him.

As a reminder, do not celebrate this occasion or declare that you're glad that the man is dead. It should not be too much to ask that we treat his death better than the alt right is. You are still welcome to discuss and criticize John McCain's political legacy without the aforementioned vitriol. We also ask that this thread stay on topic and not get derailed into wider ancillary arguments like the Vietnam war.
RIP, whatever his political legacy may be he indisputively served his country to the best of his abilities.

Agree. I didn't agree with his politics AT ALL. Like not even a little bit. However, he at least presented his politics with a shred of dignity that is severely lacking in today's political climate.

Woof. Did some good things in his life. His family will at least find peace that he will be remembered as a hero.
Mccain wasn't a vote on anything. He was holding a seat hostage basically unable to vote since last December.
I don't agree with his policies, but I respect the human being he was. He fought for his country and endured torture for his nation. I cannot speak a bad word about a person who underwent the the horrors he did, regardless of how I feel about his politics.
A defining moment.
Didn't agree 99% of the time but we got to see this look of disappointment on McConnell because of his no vote. RIP McCain
