The website of E3 2019 (June 11-13, 2019) was today, as far as I can tell, updated with a functioning attendee form with which one can submit interest in attending the show. You have two options to choose from, Industry Pass and/or Gamer Pass, with Gamer Pass being for the public.

Gamer Passes to E3 2018 went on sale February 12 this year. The first 1,000 Gamer Passes to E3 2018 were $149 each, passes sold after the first 1,000 were $249. What the prices of Gamer Passes to E3 2019 will sell for and when they will become available are yet to be communicated.

Seeing as E3 has been open to the public for the past two years this is nothing surprising but I figured it was worth a mention. Next year's E3 will take place June 11-13, 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information on the show will be made available in the coming weeks and months.

Unless I can get my hands on the Early Bird one, I'll probably skip next year.

Last and this years were pretty good.

Which problems E3 has that Gamescom doesn't? I know that checks are important because you can buy a gun in America easily while in Germany you can't get a gun AFAIK.

this is going to be the awkward E3 in which no one explicitly mentions the next-gen consoles but everyone knows they're happening next year, and at the end of each presentation, they they tease games that are clearly not running con current gen hardware

I'm fucking hype!

Going to E3 as a fan seems like such an amazing experience but in reality it's awful unless you're someone in a position to actually book appointments. You're lucky to play more than like two games a day without press privileges. At least anything beyond tiny indies nobody has heard of.

If you want to go to a major industry event that's actually fun go to PSX or PAX South.

I thought this was assumed
They've made a ton of money off it, they will never leave it 'press only' again

Another reason why the premier E3 experience is watching at home on your TV.

Lines are gonna be brutal.

Think submitting interest for an "industry" pass will interfere with their alumni inviting?

I hope we at least get press-only hours, if not a whole day. Press hours is practically the only way I was able to get anything done this year.

Went the last 3 years, I'm over the crowds. However, they handled things a bit more efficiently this year than last. Saving my summer monies and going to EVO for the first time ever in 2019.

MS leaving E3 seems more rational now. I can see more publishers doing the same.

If everyone do the same, there wouldn't be an E3 anymore, cause then you'd start to argue why doing your own show the same week as the other companies with the risk of not getting enough visibility.

I don't want this to happen, E3 is such a unique event, there is something exactly like this (this big with this hype) for other products.

It wouldn't make much of a difference. MS had their best show ever and many raved how easy and nice their area was due to being outside of the E3 nightmare. I know what you are saying. But E3 open to public will force many to reevaluate their E3 plans.

I concur. I've been there 9 or 10 times, I can't imagine a public showfloor. Though, the last time I went, it was already a nightmare (2011).

E3 has been open to the public the last two years. They need to adopt what Gamescom does and have dedicated press days.

Also, does E3 take up the entire LA convention center or is there more space they can use there?

Nope, I went from 2002 to 2011, with two years off, I don't remember which one, obvisouly the one after the show was on a airport strip (that was really bad imo but it was the best for working as a press member).

I understand that they want to be more like Gamescom since they are loosing traction but I also understand that devs and press alike will be leaving the event if it's public.

I'm still not convinced about MS having their best show ever, i need to go back and watch some their E3s in the early 360 era.

Yes it was very entertaining but the hype all came from first reveals of multiplatform titles, the rest was pretty much a promise that "we will do better in the future" through studios acquisitions, next gen hardware,...

But aside from that (it's off topic, there's no point discussing it here), even if that was the best E3, how much of that came from the fact that it was in a separate venue?

EA also has its own event separate from E3, right?

Yep
EA has been outside for a while now.
Besides whatever opinion you have on their press conference, everyone loved the idea of them being outside. It was very accessible and organized unlike the actual E3.

God damnit I was hoping my stealth edit would quickly hide my comment lol.

Anyways from what I've read or heard from games press is that they seem in favor of press days but I have to imagine developers really don't want the hassle of dealing with tons and tons of fans storming down on their booth when they are just trying to get their game shown to the right people for coverage.

I wouldn't be surprised if E3 turns into like a big PAX or something one day.

I attended e3 from 2001 thru 2016, the show was best the year before the Santa Monica summit. Everything since then has been more and more chaotic and what is seemingly a futile attempt for the show to stay relevant with all the other gaming expos that have cropped up over the past years.

E3 going public is kinda sad, as it was one of the last major hold outs where you could actually experience what other developers were doing without absolutely insane crowds.

I guess I've still got GDC.

Been to E3 2005 and 2006 when they were showing the next gen 360 and PS3 (with the boomerang controller, lol) thanks to a friend in the industry who got me a pass.

E3 is for networking and marketing, not for fans to play games. Lines were ALREADY long enough back then when it was just industry insiders (and impostors like me).

PAX is for gamers, leave E3 to the pros. Or have 1-2 press-dedicated days before opening to the public.

In other words, i went to the last good E3. Yay! (santa monica was 2007)

Next E3 will be the E3 to see all the last games for current generation, and to see FFVIIR Part 1 :p

2020.

No way. They won't be revealed until early 2020

Microsoft will probably tease something like they did Scorpio but it'll mostly be current gen as the focus still.
We're definitely going to see at least 1 or 2 next-gen games though, a la Watch Dogs/Star Wars 1313. Even if the platform itself isn't announced.

We've probably already seen some next gen games as it is. I personally don't believe Cyberpunk 2077 will be out before the new consoles and even though they'll likely be backward compatible I think we'll still see cross gen games like Cyberpunk that end up utilising the new consoles power in some way.

I don't see why there's so much dread over this in the thread right now, if anything this is a good thing. Saying nothing will get done stuff like that, well the big companies already do all their shows before E3 even starts, as for the big lines, well that's just the nature of stuff like this.

Don't forget, 15 years ago, Internet and the lack of social media, it was really different. Now, it would be easier to be out of the showfloor than inside it, you don't need to be in person for coverage. You want to be in person to meet people and create contacts. Last years I went, all my stuff was done in the meeting room in the top floor, it was cacophonic on the showfloor, it's like a casino.

My best E3 was 2002 for the show floor and the press conferences of 2006.

Went for the first time this year and loved it. See you there. :)

OT: I suspect most of those people will spend more time in lines and wading through crowds than actually getting their hands on the biggest games.
