Damn, sorry to hear OP. My games are easily accessible in my place since they're pretty much displayed in a shelf in the living room, I might have to rethink this and put them somewhere else.

My house was burgled in 2011 and it was so strange. They took the PS3, left the Wii. They didn't touch any of my video games but took my DVD sets for Buffy, Angel and It's the Garry Shandling Show. I couldn't get too angry since the insurance would cover the PS3 and the burglars had immaculate taste.

Do another reunion and when everyone is in the house, lock them down and interrogate them.

Joking aside, that sucks :/

Maybe ask your grandparents if they still remember if anyone went to the basement, or contact the distant families and ask them straight.

Were these things on show, liked hooked up or the games on a shelf or something, or in a closet?

Not that it really matters I guess, but it's even more fucked in if they were going through your grandparents cupboards.

None of it was hooked, but it was just there in the room, so it wasn't really hidden. Well, the PSP and Vita were kind of tucked away, I guess, they would have had to do some looking for that, though not a huge amount.

I've had family steal from me, shit sucks but eh that's their true self so I don't talk to them anymore.
Honestly I'd have rented a tiny storage locker since those run like $20 a month but that's in the past
Sorry OP

Probably will next time, or at least put all of it in my grandpa's safe or something if there is room

God, that sucks for the OP. My older sister's husband stole my OG Xbox when I was overseas. I came home on leave and it was just gone.

That dude ultimately ended up doing 5 years for stealing copper wiring out of homes while carrying an unregistered handgun.

A real class act, he was.

Are these...serious posts? You really think some just took a handheld system (well, I guess three now) and like 30 games without saying anything to anyone? I just can't see someone doing that, even a younger kid. I would think they'd at least ask, or their parents would call about it after the fact.

Framing it giving them the benefit of the doubt opens a path for them to return them to you without losing face. If they thought you'd be gone for a whole year they may have planned on playing the games and then putting them back later with no one the wiser.

If you assume this to be the truth (even though it probably isn't), you're much more likely to get your games back, because a party that thinks he'll be looked at as a thief if he comes out, isn't going to.

Hopefully you can get them back, I had a similar situation myself when I had family steal 20 of my games and I saw the games again. The thing is, I'm almost sure I know who did it, but I can't do anything about it since I have no proof.

Family's the first five people you count off using your hand. Errybody else is just strangers that look like you.

That sucks OP, I have a super small family so I can't really relate. There's only one who's a thieving shitheel, the rest I'd trust absolutely.

If it was someone older like a teen or an adult, I doubt you'll hear any information. Damn shame, that's at least a 1000 bucks worth of games. Try finding out who was on that reunion, it might help you.

I mean, maybe, but this just seems really naive to be frank.

It be your own family. smh

As long as they didn't steal your Kingdom Hearts games (assuming you play it) then no one has to die.

Whelp, I just got back from a year long job in South Korea and I came back to my grandparents house, where I was storing my stuff while I was overseas, and am going to be staying for a bit under my next job starts to find all of my PS4 games, my 3DS XL, and all of my 3DS games have been stolen. At first I was thinking maybe the PS4 games had just been misplaced, because all of them were missing but my Switch and 3DS cases were still there. Then I realized that I had all of my 3DS games in a carry case I got from the old Club Nintendo days were I kept the actual carts. And when I went to look where I kept my 3DS, yep, it and the case were gone (I was also keeping it in a Club Nintendo pouch, both it and the case were also Zelda themed).

My grandparents have no explanation, except that there was a family reunion and few months ago and several people stayed the night. It wasn't just a random theft I think, either. They only took my 3DS, the 3DS games, and the PS4 games. I have several PS3 games, Wii U games, along with a PS3 and Wii U, but none of that was touched. That tells me that they weren't just randomly grabbing shit to pawn or whatever, they most likely wanted them to have. I mean, maybe they knew those games were more valuable or something and didn't want it to be obvious, this is possible as well, but I kind of feel like someone doing this would just go for at least the other games if they were going to steal a whole handheld and about 30 games.

Anyway, it sucks, especially the 3DS stuff. Most of them are Nintendo games, which either stay at full price or get discontinued, and the saves I had for them are, I guess, gone forever. I'll probably get a cheapy 2DS model so I can play Samus Returns and Warioware Gold that were in packages waiting for me when I got back. Might hunt down some of my favs, too, just to have. I almost left my Switch games in a separate case when I left but decided last minute to just bring them with my Zelda case just in case. Glad I did, because I'm sure those would be gone, too.

TL:DR: Read the first sentence and you get the gist of the whole thing.

Sorry to hear that bro. Go digital next time. ;)

If you backup your 3DS saves to the system, do they only work with the game cart they came from? That part about losing saves makes me think.

Anyway, not that it helps, but this sort of thing is something people often overlook in the whole physical vs digital "debate". Physical stuff can be stolen/lost.

Really sucks that this happened, and apparently by family no less.

I don't think they back up online or anything like that, so I'm pretty sure the saves stay on the cart and the system

Man that sucks :(
Even worse that apparently they come from your own family.
Well at least your Switch is fine, easily more valuable than the 3DS at this point.

you need to turn into Liam Neeson and hunt them down.

nah but seriously, that sucks op. Hopefully you get to trace it and get your stuff back. I buy most of my stuff digitally these days, mostly because it's convenient not having to change games and keeping cases and whatnot. Didn't even realise it was a good anti-theft measure until I read this thread.

Sucks... i know the feeling, i used to live at my girlfriends (now wifes) parents house.

Random games would go missing, bunch of ps2 games... at first i chalked it up to me misplacing them... but more and more things kept walking away...

Turns out, my junkie sister-in-law and her boyfriend were taking it, and to find out they took tons of other shit. Some of my DJ gear (300$ stanton headphones) plus my wifes pain meds and money.

Only found out when i caught the fucker crawling into our room one night and ppulling meds from my wifes purse... he confessed to all the other shit... (never got the stuff back though, i assume he hocked it for drug money)

We had to get a fucking deadbolt for our bedroom after that.

Any of your relatives have consoles too or they just stole them to sell?

Not sure since I really don't know any of them. I'm leaning on just stealing to sell, though. It feels too random at this point to be about wanting to play them since I discovered my PSP and Vita are gone now, too.

Damn, that sucks OP. I remember many years ago when I spent time in the summer overseas we had a family get together and my GBA and all my games were stolen. I left it in the kitchen without thinking much about it but seeing as it wasn't a common item in that region I can't say I'm surprised someone lifted it.

I've had immediate family steal money from my Nan whilst she was napping, my parents money and jewellery, my birthday money on several occasions and even my old PS2. The sad thing is, we have never figured out exactly who it was but they've happened with different people in the house on different occasions.

Family means nothing to some people. I'm kind of glad I don't live at home anymore. I'm sorry your stuff got nabbed, it's horrible when you realise your stuff has been stolen.

Very, very shitty situation Shauni, sorry to read about this.

Could you contact all the attendees via Facebook or by post, with an offer of a reward for anyone who knows who stole the items? This might trigger someone's memory - perhaps someone saw them in the room, or saw someone taking home much more than they had initially brought.

You could state that you will be reporting the incident to the police, but would like to give the thief the opportunity to return the items first, no consequences. If you don't hear anything back, you'll be supporting the police in their investigation. Add a few bluffs - state that you've found some fingerprints and have preserved these for the police - and that the 3DS has a traceable wi-fi connection (yeah its rubbish but they might not know that).

Worth a try.

Damn OP, tough break. Only game related thing I've ever had stolen was a copy of Lemmings for PSP as I was still in the store.

Out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of work pulls you to a country like Sth Korea for a year?

Sorry to hear about that. Similar things have happened in my family. I remember a long time ago my family paid a visit to some relatives in another state. My Game Boy ended up 'going missing' after a few days. Later learned my older cousin had swiped it for drug money.

Couple of years back my brother was storing some stuff at my mom's place. He ended up having his entire bluray collection stolen (I'm talking over 100 movies) along with several pieces of my mother's jewelry. Turns out my mom's boyfriend (a junkie) at the time was the culprit.

Your grandmother secretly sold them to the relatives and is conning you.

Jokes aside, I hope you manage to find them. The fact that they not only took ALL your games, but ALSO the game systems, clearly reveals the thief had super malicious intent.

contact all the attendees via Facebook

time to call the whole family out

Yeah, feels like a great opportunity to tag family members in a FB post that is less angry, more sad/confused. "I hope this was just a mix-up, but if anybody from the family has seen the following games/toys? My stash at grandma's is missing only a few things, which makes me think someone went through without knowing why they were there and didn't put them away properly." Etc etc. Give everyone an easy out to fess up and feign stupidity/ignorance or whatever.

Good luck.

Nah, not really. All of the ones I had on Facebook I deleted since basically all of them are hardcore Trumpers. My grandmother has been contacting them (her side of the family), and she isn't exactly, hmm, the person who can get information if I'm being honest. And, as I've said before, this happened a few months ago, so odds are this stuff is long gone. And, if not, it is now that people have been contacted. And since it was a family reunion with people coming in and going it'd be easy to explain away any fingerprints or anything like that. I think something like that could be effective directly afterward, but not at this point

Your grandparents probably sold it in a yard sale or gave it away.

Nah. I trust them to not do that or to do it and lie about. It also makes no sense if they were just randomly selling my stuff (and it's all my stuff I bought and paid for, not stuff they bought for me with a few gifts as exceptions), that they would only sell specific stuff for no real reason while not doing it to all of the other stuff I still have (namely my PS3 and Wii U and all their games, my assorted figure collections, books, wireless speakers, etc) that's worth money. There's no logic to that.

Yeah, my first thought was that someone got that stuff because they wanted to use it (I mean, I always assumed they stole it, I don't see anyone just borrowing that without asking but more that they wanted to have it to play), but since I discovered the PSP and Vita was gone it's obvious they were just stealing it to sell. Also explains why the PS3 and Wii U weren't stolen or all my figures and stuff. Whoever it was grabbed just the handhelds because they were small and then the newest games and crammed it in a backpack or purse or something.
