The people patting the dude on the back and joking about him knowing are gross. Era absolutely has a boy's club problem.

Honestly once you get beyond the shock of the initial read, it really is sad to think that people can be so poorly educated on their bodies.

Since a lot of dudes with apparently no knowledge of female arousal or anatomy are mocking this woman for not knowing, it's entirely plausible to me, as a person with a vagina, that she may not understand where she bleeds from during her period. Period blood often comes out kind of brown or lumpy because it's dead, dried blood. When I first got my period, I legitimately thought shit was leaking out of me because that's how it looked. Granted I got my period before I had any kind of sex ed (I was young for it at 10), but I still was relatively aware of my body and had older siblings who had experienced it already. In a culture where bodies and discussion of these matters is taboo, I'm sure she could have not known where she bleeds from, let alone connected periods with sexual anatomy. Hell, I know plenty of dudes who still think women pee out of their vaginas.

As for arousal hinting her towards the proper hole, if she found (anal) sex unpleasant and painful and was also stressed about perhaps being infertile, I can absolutely believe she may not have been properly aroused.

It's entirely possible that the article is bunk, but I still don't find this unbelievable.
This is a great post. I despise the bro mentality in this thread.

A singular dark joke can be hilarious, a sea of men repeating it becomes rather dark and oppressive for some.

I dunno, maybe viewing Restera as a "sea of men" is part of the problem.

Earlier this week we had a thread where a dozen or so users were banned for downplaying the transphobic tweet sent out by CDProjekt, so I don't know how someone could claim ERA doesn't strive to be an inclusive, progressive place, especially in comparison to other forums. Maybe if someone feels uncomfortable here, it's because they're inferring a subtext of "bro club" and "rape culture" where it doesn't belong, and the issues lie with them rather than the community.

Maybe my choice of words was a little misguided, instead maybe 'a sea of people' would have been better but even then the point stands that the majority of the thread is either jokes about the man taking advantage of his wife's intelligence sexually, people saying they are lying and others questioning how a woman wouldn't know it was wrong even when we had people explain that it's entirely possible.

Overall era is progressive, a lot more then most of the Internet but it doesn't mean there isn't certain issues that aren't problematic.

Some examples -

Insults about people's looks are generally tolerated if the target is a shitty person

fat shaming and outright refusal to change behaviour towards big people is quite common

tattoos are still considered ugly and unprofessional by many who stigmatise those with them because they expect workers to be formal at all times.

And as shown in this thread there are issues with some aspects of sex and relationships too.

It's not everyone of course but these issues are easy to see if you are the sort of person who takes these things into consideration.

you're basically just complaining that people on the internet aren't nice, and that you don't like jokes.

nothing in the article infers the wife is being raped or that she didn't want sex. nothing in the article infers that the man knew what he was doing and taking advantage of his wife. that is YOUR projection of the issue. whereas most other people's projection is to make a joke.

This sort of shit is rampant in many, many uneducated communities.

I recall a teacher once talking about how a doctor friend of his had a couple patients who were having trouble conceiving because the man was trying to fuck the belly button

You seem to be getting confused, I'm not suggesting that the man did know how pregnancy works, my comments are on the 'lol he knew how you get babies' jokes.

Reason being that when you break the joke down it is 'lol, that man lied to his wife for years about how sex works so he didn't have to have a baby and could have anal sex instead'. That's not debatable, unless all of the people saying the jokes don't know how words work.

Most people taking a story about a young and desperate couple struggling for four years to have a baby but because of their lack of education they didn't know how sex works and making jokes about how the man deliberately lied to his wife to essentially force her into anal sex is pretty terrible when you look at it.

People may not mean it to be nasty or mean natured but in that case think about the damn words you are saying. You can say you didn't mean it like that but words have meanings so you can't just say one thing but mean another.

Holy shit, didn't know people in that part of the world are THAT clueless about this.

But still, even before sex ed was invented humans were reproducing just fine. It's an evolved instinct. Something else is weird here.

That's because most people don't know there are big regions in China where people are extremely poor. We're talking poverty levels that simply do not exist in North America. Dirt floors, no sewage systems, 1950s peasant eras level of poor.

This example is a little extreme, but it still illustrates their living standards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IQH2HIVspg

"He knew" is the obvious joke in this situation though, which is why it keeps popping up (some responses went a bit far yeah). The reason being that the woman stated sex was painful, so in the hypothetical situation only one partner has anything to gain from feigning ignorance. Truthfully, this is an absolutely ridiculous situation where society has failed two people because of insane conservative standards. At the same time though, it's Darwin Award worthy for the couple. As many have bought up, simple minded animals figure this out. It's common sense. This is basically the real life equivalent of an Onion headline that shouldn't have ever happened, but it did. The story has a happy ending as well since the couple received some sex ed and are now expecting, which also means the woman doesn't have to go through the pain she did it trying to conceive anymore. There doesn't appear to be any complications from their stupidity either. It's a sad and ridiculous situation where people are using humor as a defense mechanism because it shouldn't have happened in the first place. This doesn't mean that a person (can't include everybody of course) who makes that joke endorses that behavior. It's also not the kind of joke that's exclusive to men either as it falls straight into the "men are shit" category. I'm not seeing how era's woman problem applies to most of the responses in here.

My fiance has run into cases like this. And yeah, it's because of shitty, shitty sex education. Not the guy being a jerk, though you'd think they would wonder why they're the only ones having fun.

Tends to happen in closed off communities.

This is reminding me of the amount of uneducated people in China, it's an actual problem where many who are poor or live in rural areas don't go to school.

Yeah, but prehistoric humans were also poor and had no sex ed, and yet here we are.

Reminds me of this time I was out golfing with a guy. He hits this amazing drive, and follows it up with an awesome chip and an improbable putt. The dude was fucking dancing, and turned to me and said "Wasn't that some great golfing?"

It was, I guess, but it went in the wrong hole.

Banning people for one issue doesn't mean you're good in all other areas.

The women of Era explained their issues thoroughly.

Should have tried oral, would have been less painful.
A girl did get pregnant from oral before, it's in a medical journal somewhere. She swallowed and soon after was stabbed multiple times but survived - the internal wounds from the stabbing allowed fluids from her stomach to come into contact with her reproductive organs.
Yup, I'm calling bullshit on this. Most guys would have instinctively went for the vagina. He "missed" on purpose.
Except this is a fairly regular occurrence, especially in some poor/uneducated/conservative communities.

I remember hearing this story in junior high around 25 years ago, and a few times since then, but never have I ran across an actual source. At this point I'm going to go ahead and call it an urban legend unless I see some receipts.

Natural Selection right there. I call bullshit though. I've seen a naked woman - the vagina is not some ultra hidden thing. The anus is not a shining beacon of 'enter here' either. So they are either too stupid and should never have kids for the kids' sake or it's some bullshit.

Lmao.

Did... did at no point they think "hey maybe... let's try the other hole a few times?"
No, that's absurd. She pees from there.

Well, she got it right in the end.
Lol wow.

Omg this is the story this thread reminded me of.

I read of this years ago and the thought of a stretched out urethra regularly used for intercourse still wigs me out.

There is no way this is real.
Never underestimate people's ability to avoid basic knowledge.

Or maybe, as the "women feeling unwelcome in era" thread shows, the problem is actually with a lot of men, like you, immediately dismissing any issues, denying any problems, and accusing the people being uncomfortable with only imagining everything.

You're literally being a poster child for the problem here.

I feel like I've read a story almost exactly like this one except the gynecologist discovered that it was the urinary tract they had been using *shudder*.

Yaw'll are gullible as fuck.
Wild animals and pre-porn hub man figure out the gist of sex within hours. It would take a special kind of obliviousness in both parties to make this true.

Husband! husband! Fertilize my eggs by ejaculating into my intestines and ignore the orifice that lubricates itself and I have a period from because fuck biology , anatomy, and common sense.
