PCSX2 1.4.0 / Tenchu:Wrath of Heaven.
don't ask about settings i don't understand most of it,i messed with it and broke it,took me ages to get back like this and now i'm getting performance dips.

tenchu.png

Screenshot your GSDX/general settings and let us know your system specs we should be able to help you get the performance you are looking for.

I currently only have a laptop with an i5 8250u and integrated graphics (Intel UHD 620)

Could I run more modern emulators like PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube/Wii in general? If so, would it be able to run at higher resolutions or is the lack of a dedicated GPU going to ruin it all?

Emulators are heavily dependent of the CPU. I doubt you'd be able to run it with what you have. Maybe someone without more know how can help. But even I was having performance problems on my old desktop rig (i5 4460, GTX 960).

it is a relatively old gaming laptop so i'm always going to be struggling.
i7-4700HQ @ 2.4GHz
GTX 860m

Go to Config > Emulation settings and screenshot your speedhacks window.
Also try updating to the latest version of PCSX2 https://pcsx2.net/download/development/dev-windows.html

I had PCSX2 running full speed with a notoriously demanding game (DQ8) on a Surface Pro 3. This should be more than doable.

Why are you still using 1.4? Download one of the 1.5 dev builds; 1.4 is like two years out of date.

in my defence i didn't look at the release date,i just googled the latest version and that was first.i didn't even consider looking at the builds.

That's what I thought check the MTVU hack.

thanks, the latest version already seems to make a difference.i'm in the cemetery level which isn't the best to tell since it is so dark anyway,i'll have a better look at it tomorrow.

There's only upsides to enabling it so no reason not to. Also on that note up your anistropic filtering to 16x it's a free upgrade.

I'm not sure what you think you are seeing but there's no visible aliasing in these 3 shots. I'm seeing some low res textures but that's a different issue.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very clearly. Yeah, the two shots I posted above were pretty much cleaned. I've found that SMAA and LumaSharpen cleaned up that area pretty nicely. There are some instances I can't clean entirely however, such as the one below.

Check out the bottom of the fountain, near the floor tiles.

definitely running a lot better now,and looks pretty good too.although i've come to realise tenchu isn't the best for screenshots since the textures are a mixed bag and as in the second pic there is a slightly annoying blur effect to every moving object that wasn't as noticeable on the PS2 itself.

Thanks for the shots they look good :).

Looking at some discussion of the game on the PCSX2 forums here's some suggestions on improving IQ. Try turning on hacks under the graphics setting and setting "Skipdraw" to 3. That should solve that blur issue. Also you could probably set the IR to 3x given your GPU (can vary by game).

thank you.the IR in those shots were all at 4x with no dips in performance,i've done the skipdraw and although the blur is still there it does appear to be reduced.i can live with it.

And some Ocarina of Time 3D while I'm at it. I've yet to find a good setup for the touch controls; on 3DS, they were a huge advantage, but on PC they make the experience hard to enjoy with a controller. You lose the two touch buttons, so you only have two physical item buttons to work with, making it worse than the original game. The Steam controller with the right trackpad mapped as the mouse is probably the best solution- it would still be clunky, but you wouldn't have to reach over for a mouse every time you change an item, and you might even be able to map certain areas of the touchscreen to a button press.

The lack of gyro controls is also disappointing, as Citra doesn't offer any way of mapping them. The ultimate solution would be to use the Wii U gamepad and stream the touchscreen to it, making use of the gyro and all, but I don't know if Citra's developers are going to tackle that challenge.

You can overcome the touchscreen issue pretty quickly with AHK (auto hot key) and the AHK recorder. They are free online tools that will allow you to map a key to a positional click or series of keys and clicks. They are commonly used for grinding while AFK and automating PC work.

Quick question - has anyone had any success with Ratchet & Clank 2? I have a 3570K and can't get it to run well for the life of me, texture issues everywhere. Is there a known fix for this?

Thanks, I may have to try that. Citra supports gyro controls natively now, so you can use a Steam/DS4/Switch controller and have motion work exactly as it was on 3DS. The problem is that I don't think you can use Steam in conjunction with it, since the Switch controllers require you to use betterjoyforcemu to get the gyro data and Steam doesn't seem to detect the controller while it's active.

I had found a touch solution I liked where clicking the left stick turned the gyro into a mouse, then the right stick was the tap/click. It was clumsier than the real touchscreen, but it let me keep my hands on the controller. Having real motion control is great, but without Steam it basically puts things back to square one in terms of having to reach over and use a mouse again.

Interesting that's its native support and is immediately recognized. What is the right touchpad being recognized as? I would have thought the default for that would be mouse.

With a higher res font texture it would basically look like Berseria :P

Hey now you're really starting to get it the pics are looking better and better! One more thing, turn on widescreen hacks because it's looking like you're stretched here.

thanks, yeah you're right widescreen hack is on now and it is obvious how far out it was.

three quick and dirty pics with it on.

I'd like to re-visit SH4. Is PS2 emulation the best way to go? Mind if you share the settings you're using on PCSX2?
The vanilla pc port is widely regarded as an unplayable atrocity, but there's at least three unofficial patches that make it somewhat closer to the emulated version (while introducing some new bags though). The latest builds of PCSX2 emulate it nearly perfectly, but you should be prepared for occasional out-of-bounds rendering issues as the game was never intended for modern aspect ratios and certain effects being low quality or slightly broken due to the huge resolution upscale.

On the previous page i've already answered about the settings, so I just quote myself here:
PCSX2 emulator really needs no additional configuration for SH4, just grab the latest version from here, make sure to use OpenGL as the renderer, set internal resolution to 6-8x native and enable widescreen hacks. If you wish to make it look exactly as on my screens, first install latest reshade with opengl32.dll and then I will navigate you from here in more detail.

P.S. For convenience' sake, I've made a screenshot of my gsdx settings (here). I actually forgot to mention half-pixel offset hack previously, it fixes some annoying ghosting at places, so better enable it as shown.

The screenshots of Pokemon 3DS look stunning, and has gotten me curious: what kind of PC setup would you need to get it running properly and with the 10x internal res in place?

And how much of the game is reliant on the touchscreen/bottom screen? Would I have the option of just having the top screen visible, and full-screen at that?

Long story short: can I have the console Pokemon experience I've been long wanting? The jury's still out on how casual Let's Go Pikachu/Eeevie will be, and the entry after that isn't out until next year.

That looks amazing is this some kind of ultrawide and LOD patch?

No LOD patch at the time I took this shot but in the latest Cemu there is one. I took this shot when I used to have an ultrawide monitor (21:9). It's actually a series of shots which are stitched together. I used reshade too.

A few more.
