Any impressions om Crossed Swords? Looks kinda cool.

Crossed Swords gameplay is like Punchout with swords. Or it's like Dragon Quest Swords, if you played that game. Also the level progression is a little bit like Dungeons and Dragons Tower of Doom / Chronicles of Mystara.

It's a pattern-recognition based action game with performance based rewards and a little bit of equipment upgrading, with various enemies with different patterns and bosses at the ends of levels.

IMO, it's good.

Really enjoyed the original PlayStation Mobile (RIP) version of Aqua Kitty when I played through it a few months ago on Vita, so I can only imagine the enhanced Switch port is even better. I've been thinking of grabbing it but it's just out of impulse buy territory for me...

I'm curious about this. I found out about this game a few days ago and wishlisted it. Why do you think it's a no buy?

It's a multiplayer game i don't do those is the main reason. i bought because my nephews came over and they played it and had a lot of fun. My list was just assuming those games can't all be bought right now lol. if they can, they are all good but my faves are the ones i listed buy and are what i personally would get first :)

Does Kero Blaster look fine in docked mode? Sucks about handheld image quality. That game is awesome and deserves a top-notch port. But if docked mode looks good, I'll still grab it.

I only saw it for a few seconds before leaving for work today, but it looked better than handheld from what u recall. I can verify in about five hours.

Cool, thanks! Make sure to post your impressions later on if you get the chance. It's such a great game. Shame about handheld....hopefully it receives a patch. But it sounds like docked image quality is good, so I'll probably pick it up.

Just played a few minutes of Hollow Knight and I can tell this one is gonna be one I really enjoy. The artstyle is great and the platforming is tight. Haven't played much to comment on the combat, but it seems good, too. I just hope it's not too difficult.

I managed to get an ending without too much difficulty and I'm not great at the game by any means. It has some challenging bosses but the really hard content is optional.

There are three things that are really difficult in HK and they are all optional. The rest is tough but doable.

How long did it take you to get an ending? I've heard it's a 30-40 hr game which is really offputting to me for a platformer... :/
It's a metroidvania that actually goes to the genre's roots of being oppressive, mildly challenging, and encourages you to wander and get lost. The fact that it's long with little fluff is a very good thing.

If the length really is off-putting, I would recommend Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap remake if you haven't played it. It's a very tightly designed exploration platformer that only lasts a few hours. It's a very loose "metroidvania" being roughly contemporary with Metroid 1, but most people call it one just for convenience's sake.

Some text seems a bit soft even docked, the text quality isn't perfect, but it substantially less soft than docked. I'd say it's pretty acceptable docked.

Looking at the current sales of games that interest me, which of the following are buy or no buy:

Bomb Chicken BUY!
Cosmic Star Heroine BUY!
Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King BUY I GUESS? Haven't played it but others love it here, I found lots of things like animations off-putting in the trailer but I'm in the minority
Joe Dever's Lone Wolf BUY!
The Flame in the Flood BUY MAYBE? Several recent impressions are on the previous pages here
Aqua Kitty UDX BUY
Shadow Bug *shrug*
Bulb Boy *shrug*

Yay, The Messenger's available for pre-order on the Aus/NZ eShop now with a 15% discount. I was worried I might miss out on it!
oh the discount finally reached PAL shores? I was getting worried as well.

Aqua Kitty is a fun wrap-around sidescrolling underwater shooter where you defend cats mining milk. I'd easily recommend it if it looks interesting to you.

Isn't there supposed to be a sale on Gungeon and Yoku? Can't find them on the EU eshop.

Anyone got anything to say about Sky gamblers? Looks like a cheap but fun flight sim.

I just read on Nintendo Life that the Wii Shop Channel is staying open until 30 January 2019. Can you still buy games from it? I'll buy Castlevania: Rondo of Blood if so.

you "just" read that?

You cannot add funds to it anymore since, I don't know, March? or May? of this year. If you don't have leftovers in your Wii Shop Wallet, you're sol.

Yes, it was there for me, but Ninjadom pointed out some useful info bellow:

I pre-ordered it here in UK. The 15% discount in U.K. only applies if you own at least one of three specific games. Enter the Gungeon is one of them.
Ah, that's cool. It didn't hit my storefront (even as a wishlist entry without a price) until yesterday, so I was happy to see it wasn't going to end up a no-show like West of Loathing and Salt & Sanctuary, which are still not out.

Suggestion

As the amount of games on eshop continues to grow at a frightening pace and many games - both good and bad - are lost in the shuffle only to be occasionally brought up with a "does anyone own this? should I buy this?" I suggest we start a Google spreadsheet with a column for each game on the eshop. On the next columns there will be listed names of users on ERA who own the game along with a link to a thread/post featuring their written impressions and optionally (within the spreadsheet) a column for a very superficial "Buy/Buy on Sale/Buy on other platform/Pass" opinion.

We could then link to this spreadsheet in the OP of each month's thread.
People interested in an obscure game would not only have a resource to rely on but know which users to contact or @ for further impressions.

What say you ERA?

I'm ok with that. Many good impressions are forgotten in the oblivion after a few days.

Any impressions on Bomber Crew ?
I want to play a FTL-like, but I wonder if it plays well with a gamepad...
I enjoy it quite a bit but took me a while to find to find the best camera angles for the controls. Eventually I went with an exterior view that was pretty zoomed out in order to more easily target incoming enemies and other targets from afar. Then there's a button that switches to a close up interior view for managing your crew and other internal resources.

It's definitely not as fluid as something like FTL but that comes with being in 3D. Plus the added tension of having to maintain awareness in all directions feels perfectly suited to a WW2 bomber.

I saw your post late last night here, and was happy when I loaded it docked, and it looked pretty fine. Then I played handheld and....

I tweeted the publisher, Active Gaming whatever...and asked about soft image quality handheld mode. I didnt want to tweet Pixel directly, as I doubt it's his fault at all, and truly I don't want to give that guy flack, he seems such a sweet dude.

For all the complaints I've seen regarding Nicalis, I'd have gladly paid $15 for a more competent port, and with Pink Hour included.
I just sent a polite tweet to Active Gaming, Playism, and Studio Pixel seeing if they could comment about a patch to fix the soft image quality, and hint at the desire to see Pink Hour and Pink Heaven in the Switch port. Perhaps someone will respond if enough people tweet about it?

I just browsed the Wii U eShop and looked at the latest releases. A new game got released on the eShop this month. The most recently released games look absolutely awful. They'd look awful even if they were released on 8-bit computers in the 80's. Granted they're less than £1 to buy them but they look absolutely shit!!!

this seems to solve the thing where I end up waving the search function around, I'm all for it!

it's a RCMADIAX & Friends free-for-all on 3DS and Wii U eShop.

Dark times.

Thank god RCMADIAX hasn't got a Switch development licence.
The shop is cluttered enough without being hit with a wave of cheap shovelware.

Worth giving this a bump, I'm one of those 'oh it's a metroidvania that's not either metroid nor castlevania so it must be crap' kind of guy but Dust is a really great metroidvania with Muramasa'esque combat. I still prefer Hollow Knight over it but Dust is definitely a great game.

I don't know much about this game but it's always looked appealing to me aesthetically. It's got more of a combat focus? More than Hollow Knight or about the same as? I heard it's more of a beat-'em-up which I've never played I don't think - unless Hollow Knight is considered one?

Also, does it have lots of platforming and exploration? I'm curious what makes it not a Metroid or Castlevania, or do you mean just in name only?

Eager for anyone's reply on this as well. I've been interested in it for a long time but just assumed it had the standard Metroidvania setup.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your reaction to The Messenger. We've been crafting this game for the past two years with a crew of really passionate and talented people. It's very polished and I can safely say that it is by far the best game I have been involved in over my 10 years in the games industry.
