Disney's entire strategy up to this point has been to keep their heads down and only occasionally mumble to outlets like Variety. Otherwise they've been quiet as fuck through this whole thing.
Shitcanning Bautista would be like kicking a hornet's nest, then calling down an artillery strike. Plus, he's largely stuck to shittalking on Twitter. If they make a public example outtake him, I think that would make way more noise than they want right now.
They booted Gunn because they thought they could just Roseanne him and keep trucking on. They're not gonna do that with one of the stars of an ensemble cast just because he talks mad shit on Twitter, there's no way they'd be able to manage the fallout from that. The most I see them doing here is keeping him off the press tour.
EDIT: Also, the fact that killing him off would mean rewriting the script - which would lead to further production delays. They're not gonna blow another multi-million dollar hole in their pocket just to get rid of Bautista.

They're not gonna outright "fire" him publicly. They'll just choose not bring him on for any more projects after whatever his Marvel contract for A4 or GotG3 is finishes. He'll unofficially be blackballed from any Disney studio, not just Marvel projects. You're not gonna see him be a VO for any CG characters in Frozen 2 or Wreck it Ralph 3, for example. He'll still find work in other production companies, but I suspect they'd be wary hiring any actor/actress that has demonstrated a willingness to bite the hand that feeds them, no matter how noble a cause that biting was in service of. He might have to settle for the direct to dvd trash circuit, like this winner:
Disney is def gonna can Bautista for speaking out like this. You don't get to tell your boss to go fuck themselves over and over and not expect some kind of repercussions. I'm glad Dave is showing some integrity that's all to rare in public figures. Wish the rest of the crew would do the same.
They're properly fucked, really, because if they shit can Bautitsta for a political opinion they're going to get lit up by a number of major news organizations just as hard as they did for Gunn. It'll come from a different place and be for very different reasons. But Dave clearly isn't gonna shut up about it. He's gonna be talking about this shit on the red carpet. I bet he's not doing any media tour for Vol 3 or Avengers 4 now.
I'm sure they won't be giving him any new roles any time soon, but as far as Marvel goes, they've got a minimum of two more movies with him to go and, well, good luck to them. If they were to fire him from Vol3 it'd be pouring gas on the fire.
Rocket and Quill are working on parts of the Benatar when Groot comes up and asks (in his own language) when the power outlets are getting fixed so he can charge his GameGear™. Quill tells him to read a book instead and Groot is shocked.
Rocket: "Not cool, Quill. Not cool."
Quill: "I know reading isn't as cool as playing videogames but the kid needs an education, doesn't he?"
Rocket: "Speaking of education, do you even know where paper comes from, dumbass?"
Quill: "oh man, I'm sorry Groot."
Groot cries and goes back to his room.
Rocket: "Why don't YOU go do something like I dunno, eat another human being? See, it's offensive."
Quill: "I was going to say ridiculous."
(Loud bang is heard)
Quill: "hey have you seen Drax anywhere?"
Rocket: "Last I checked he was reprogramming the auto pilot systems."
Quill: "Hey I asked Groot to do that!"
Rocket: "Uh remember, He can't read the directions. What kind of monster are you?"
Quill: "Does Drax even know what he is doing?"
(Another loud bang)
Rocket: "God forbid he learns something new, Mr. Education's important but I was too busy crawling through tight spaces stealing shit for the ravagers so I haven't read a book in my life."
(Explosion)
Rocket and Quill go to the bottom level and hear Drax screaming. They run through a mechanical hallway and see Drax and a huge chunk of the ship blown apart, separating and flying out into space.
Quill: "NO, DRAX!!!"
Quill and Rocket are crying.
Magus appears. "I don't believe we've met yet, Guardians."
YOU'RE WELCOME DISNEY
I'm just really bored. Sorry :( oh and fuck Disney.
Yeah this is definitely his last Disney film, there is a reason other actors don't lash out like this. They are smart. There is no job in the world where you can be that much of a dick to your bosses and still work there.
Dude brought the tweets up on his own in interviews and said he was ashamed of them and that he's been trying to grow as a person.
There's this weirder, falser narrative that Disney didn't check out his social media or hell, even his previous films, before hiring Gunn. They knew. No one gets hired on at Disney without some kind of social media check.
No it's not. It was just about his blog. Which doesn't really matter because the blog posts in question all contained the same kind of jokes his twitter did.
He's brought up the Twitter posts several times, all by himself, and apologized for them before all this happened, too.

Whether they knew or not, they have plausible deniability, which they wouldn't if the inaccurate narrative were correct (it'd be impossible to deny knowing about tweets that had already made headlines in 2012).

Yeah, I don't think so. Gunn was exactly the kind of person who would make those tweets when he was hired (and for anyone unaware, there is much more context which softens those tweets into bad jokes). They knew who he was, the films he'd made and wrote, the jokes he said on Twitter, and hired him anyway.

I wanna see the apology, cus all the ones I've seen are general apologies for past poor behavior including tweets. I've never seen anything about him specifically apologizing for pedo joke tweets.

That's not really why. It's mostly because of the article linked in the OP where Variety explained Disney has made their final decision.
Sure there are still those crazies out there cooking up conspiracy theories that since Variety didn't name their sources it's not true, or because Disney didn't issue another statement saying that he's still fired; their #RehireJamesGunn hashtag will change Disney's mind. But those people are on the fringe.
Most of the sane and rational Marvel fans realize it's pretty much over for now until Marvel Studios reveals who will be directing the movie.
Right now a lot of MCU fans online putting their energy behind something positive and trying to get Marvel's attention about a dying girl who wants to know what happens in A4. Stuff like #RehireJamesGun and #ReleaseTheSnyderCut doesn't work, but Marvel (and Disney) DO listen to people online when it comes to a sick or dying fan. JJ Abrams showed TFA to SEVERAL dying fans (most famously Daniel Fleetwood due to #ForceForDaniel), and Marvel has done it numerous times over the year with many of the MCU movies.

This feels like you taking a dig at Moviebob, given that you and he had some words on Twitter or wherever. Please keep your beef with him out of this thread.
So in short, Bob's take on the whole situation is this: Bob Iger is poised to retire soon, and the person initially being groomed to be his successor abruptly quit a few years ago. This has in turn created a sort of pre-emptive power vacuum struggle within Disney's corporate hierarchy, and this political atmosphere will influence all the decision making. Firing James Gunn was an extremly kneejerky decision and the way the fallout is being treated heavily points towards them being self-aware over what a regrettable move that was. But walking back on the decision and directly re-hiring Gunn, effectively admitting flat out that a huge mistake was made, would be viewed as a sign of weakness within the context of the company's internal politics, so that's why it's not going to happen.
