My place of work called it early today, and we are closed tomorrow as well. We have no temp control, so it's a hot, smoky mess. Kind of like a hellscape.

Time to play videogames!

2017: "This is otherworldly."
2018: "This is a lot like last year."
2018: "When will ash season start this year?"

Don't wipe the ash off your car. Gentle but thorough rinse from roof on down. Don't bother trying to dry it, because more ash will land on it immediately. But ash is both corrosive and abrasive. Rinse only.

Argh! Woke up with red eyes and a scratchy throat, even with all the windows closed for the past 3 days. I'm in Redmond and we have it good compared to a lot of places.

While my wife is in Boston this week for work, my daughter and I have been camping out in sleeping bags in our basement. Our bedrooms are on the top floor of our (very hot brick) house, and while we have portable AC units in each room, we need to have the windows open to vent out the hot air from the machine. So basement it is.

Are they single tube portable units? Those only blow air out, so they should be OK. If they are two tube units that have a recirculate option, they should be OK as well.

They only blow air out, but I slept up there on Monday night and still felt like hell in the morning with itchy eyes and sore throat since my bed is right next to the window. Plus we're having fun "camping" in the basement.

Those units do create a negative pressure, so outside air will seep in through windows and doors unless they are really well sealed.

That's a beautiful picture, Irnbru.

Hey, does anyone know if Nintendo will do a Nindies Showcase event this year?

Drove up to Vancouver.

Vancouver fucking sucks.

Drove back. Was happy.

Care to elaborate? I like visiting up there.

If it's related to your comments about downtown Seattle, yeah, the PNW is pretty white. (Vancouver does have a large Asian population, though) A lot of minorities are being pushed out of the city and into the suburbs due to increased property values/rents/etc.

Vancouver has good Chinese food. I guess technically Richmond.

This concludes my thoughts on Vancouver.

Bin 941 and Tavola have great food. There's good ramen in Vancouver. Alibi Room rules. Awesome craft beer scene (seriously, they're 100 miles from us and it's completely different up there. Yay for distribution laws). I like going for a run at Stanley Park. [shrug]

"Dry" is the best way I can put it.

I was floating around downtown on a Saturday night and it looked like a Wednesday night in Cleveland. Streets were slow in terms of activity, clubs did not appear to be poppin. That weird mall next to Rogers Arena was like a reflection of the whole experience. Looked like it should be lively, full of people...but wasn't. I was wholly unimpressed. The fact that the city has like 6,000 black folk in it total doesn't help.

Basically I was looking for justification for the claim of it being "the most livable city" in north America. I saw boredom. I saw miles of homelessness. I saw mediocre, old homes that probably cost too much. I don't remember seeing much of anything in the way of good public transportation (subways, etc.), though I wasn't looking for them much.

It was like half the speed of Seattle, without anything to make up for it. I only spent a few days there, so I'm sure there was some I missed. But I have no desire to go back after it.
