Goku is way cooler and would be a stronger pick for Smash than Ken, or Rodin, or Chrom, or Pichu, or a bunch of other characters that are either in the game or are being asked for.

I don't get the "Goku opens the floodgates" things. I mean, Sonic opens the floodgates for shitty third party characters. Sonic is in so get ready for Carnival Games dude! We got Solid Snake? Guess that means it's only a matter of time until we get Bubsy!

All Goku getting in would do is open up non-video game characters, like Mickey Mouse (another icon of an industry). Nintendo have shown high standards with the characters they pick for the game. Just because Goku gets in wouldn't mean Sakurai would also pick Spongebob or the Mummies Alive.
Let's be real, Spongebob is on the same level as Goku.

That's pretty true
  • Debuted in SMB along with Peach and Bowser
  • Playable in SMB2, same playable debut as Peach
  • Playable in most of the New Super Mario Bros series and 3D World
  • Playable in almost every notable spin off.
  • Possibly most consistently appearing character in the Mario series aside from Mario himself, present in games where Luigi is absent such as Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, and Peach is absent such as Luigi's Mansion.
  • Heavily merchandised character
  • Ready made female alternative with Toadette
  • Inklings have shown a character can stand in for a collective species (The Orange Girl Inkling is the canon design for Agent 3, but the 7 other skins are unique).
And that's not even getting into Captain Toad specifically.

Yep. I had thought Captain Toad would force their hand to include him in Smash. Captain has a more defined personality, is the star of his own game, and carries a ton of unique attacks and actions complete with a unique gimmick.

Alas it wasn't meant to be.

Being completely honest here, I personally see Goku as being in the same ballpark as Dark Pit and pretty much no else playable in terms of how cool he would be. He's just always seemed like an obnoxious and boring pick to me.

I think Adult Goku would be lame especially since Fighterz squeezed so much out of Goku as a fighting game character. Kid Goku would be legit

My personal headcanon is that less funny Goku fans are actually chanting "Go Q!" and are wondering how would Sakurai handle such a ridiculously powerful character, since Star Trek everything is the original series now.

Would it be particularly shocking if they didn't include an Arms character as playable?
Launch wouldn't be surprising. If they don't get in the game at all as DLC then yeah it would be surprising. The game didn't do Splatoon numbers but it still did pretty well and had a lasting appeal thanks to it's updates. Plus the ARMS characters would lend themselves well to movesets.

When I asked which topic should be banned from this thread yesterday, nearly everyone said Goku.

Smash Bros is a game for VIDEO GAME characters to crossover and fight. Not Manga. Not Anime. Video Game Characters.

People said "arguments about Goku" should be banned, ie people should stop trying to argue he wouldn't be a good fit and instead should talk about when he will be revealed.

B = Turn everyone old
Up B = Teleport yourself to the center of the stage while teleporting everyone else off the stage
Side B = Blow your opponent out of existence like a candle
Down B = Give yourself an extra stock

Taunt = Mariachi Band
Final Smash = Feed the other players to the Borg

I don't want to see Goku anywhere near Smash. Don't we get enough of him in other fighting games? He has nothing interesting to offer and I don't want Anime's most boring character to contaminate Smash Bros.

Uhh so a question came to mind. I remembered you guys talking about VergeB turning down characters initially only to change his mind later.

How fast did he deny characters, and what was the time period he turned around on them?
