No doubt there are many people that have heard how much some of us enjoyed Shenmue and that it has a special place in our hearts due to the time it came out.

It was a ground breaking game in its day, being able to enter stores, examine objects and just interacting with the world and even though I'm playing it for the first time in 17 years since I finished it on the Dreamcast, for some reason I'm enjoying it more than I did back then. However, since GTA3, we've been spoiled with waypoint markers and GPS maps so even though Shenmue is set in 1986 I can imagine that having very little assistance would be off putting, not to mention the old rotary payphones, plus it looks very outdated.

Regardless of that, can newcomers see the charm that we enjoyed back then or are the game mechanics hindering your enjoyment? Keep in mind that Shenmue 2 is way better than Shenmue 1.
