FIFA 19 is coming to the Switch and one new feature returning to FIFA after 10 years is Champions League. Now to be as authentic as possible EA have included all the pitch side sponsors, which means...that there are adverts for 'PlayStation 4 Pro' in the Switch version of FIFA.

How odd?

Anyone want to comment on any of these games?

The Coma
Blossom Tales
Serial Cleaner

Just picked up Hollow Knight and Piczle Lines DX, so I figure that's enough, but I was looking at those 3 as well and thought I might as well ask.

Blossom Tales is wonderful. It's around 10 hours and like a really colorful Link to the Past. Story is whatever but the game is gorgeous, music is good and it's judt solid fun and charming. I absolutely highly recommend if you like thongs like Zelda: Link to the Past.

I also REALLY hope that the relative success of the game means we will be getting a meatier sequel at some point. A LTTP length sequel would blow my mind!

It's odd for sure but the more feature parity it is with other versions the better I say.

Really interested in impressions. While it isn't the full nightclub simulator I'm looking for, I'd love to know if it's worth picking up.

I played the first 4 or 5 levels. I like it a lot so far. It's more of a strategy game than a sim. You play as an ex-con who was just released from prison and goes back to work for his old (criminal) boss, who owns a night club. There are also story scenes, some with branching conversations, between levels. The game itself is you letting people into the club or telling them to take a hike. The point is to fill up the bar at the top of the screen, which represents how full the club is. But you have to be careful not to let in certain types of people. People dressed in ratty clothes, drunks, minors, people with bags, etc. All of these open you up to subtractions from your income reflected as damages. For this purpose, you have a clipboard that tells you any special rules for that night, as well as other things like the VIP list for that day. It's definitely something of a race against time because you won't fill the bar enough if you take the time to check every single person's ID. At the end of every week it breaks down your take-home pay and then you decide what expenses to pay. Rent, child support, etc. If you do well you'll have enough to cover everything. Otherwise you have to pick and choose and possibly build up debt. I'm really into it so far and I'm interested to see where the story goes. I also really love the visual style. It runs silky-smooth on Switch.

It's not that odd. As a Seattle Sounders fan with a PS4, I've been watching my players sport XBOX ads in a Playstation version of the game for years now.

That's good enough for me, thanks. I'll get this when I get home from work.

Also, they introduce different elements over the course of several levels, so it's not like there's a big info dump at the beginning. They pretty much explain new elements as you encounter them and tell you what to do via on-screen prompts and arrows.

I'm just happy this years game has all the right licensing overlays.

It sounds daft but seeing that stuff in other versions really detracted from FIFA 18 on Switch.

With even just a few subtle improvements to the gameplay, FIFA 19 Switch already looks like it could be legit in its own right.

How is it possible that Kero Blaster runs at sub-native res? Or maybe it's not sub-native res but some kind of scaling but it definitely looks weird to me, especially in the menus.

Quoting myself from a couple of pages back.

It looks like smeared ass. How do you not properly scale a 240p game to a 720p screen? It's a perfect 3x integer scale!

Seriously, it's the worst looking 2D game I've seen on Switch. Worse even than those lazy filtered JTA Data East games, way worse!
Exactly my thoughts, and that's coming from someone who's not very sensitive to this kind of stuff. I can understand why games like Doom or Wolfenstein aren't native res, and I think they are great, but I just can't get my head around why Kero Blaster looks like it looks… The awful scaling on this kind of pixelated graphics (which I love) hurts them a lot. Sigh…

Speaking of Kero Blaster, anybody know if anything's been said about whether it'll include the Pink Hour side game? Would be a shame if not, I want the full experience on Switch.

I feel like they've been a week behind on the Hamster Neo Geo games in the last two PR announcements.

Didn't Real Bout come out last Thursday with Crossed Swords out today?

Should mean Football Frenzy is next week and we're due for the announcement of the next batch of Neo Geo titles soon.

Would be great to get Baseball Stars 2 before the World Series.
Baseball Stars 2 is the greatest baseball game ever made

Had a bit of a dip earlier today so I went on to the e-shop and caught myself in a shopping spree despite my heavy backlogging.

Hollow Knight
Owlboy
Pixeljunk Monsters 2
Mantis Burn Racing

Cost me about half a AAA game. Cant complain about that

I still scratch my head to this day over the fairly consistent hype for releases like Hollow Knight and Stardew Valley. I bought both on launch, and will when they get physical releases too, and already own them on PC. But I rarely see criticism of either, it's often just complete praise, for the most part. I've been trying to head back to Hollow Knight after playing for at least ten hours, and I never feel that highly motivated. I really wonder what I'm not seeing....

Leave it alone for a few months, maybe.

I remember when everybody kept saying Wonderful 101 was amazing, and I was like, "man, this game is absolutely terrible". I played it for ten hours, then gave up.

People kept praising it, saying it would eventually click. So, two months later, I played for ten more hours... hated the game even more.

Three months went by. I tried again. Man, I can't explain, but I freaking love that game now.

Yes, it's sad, the game deserves way more than this.

I saw your post late last night here, and was happy when I loaded it docked, and it looked pretty fine. Then I played handheld and....

I tweeted the publisher, Active Gaming whatever...and asked about soft image quality handheld mode. I didnt want to tweet Pixel directly, as I doubt it's his fault at all, and truly I don't want to give that guy flack, he seems such a sweet dude.

For all the complaints I've seen regarding Nicalis, I'd have gladly paid $15 for a more competent port, and with Pink Hour included.

Well that's a bummer. And the other impressions... Suddenly regretting pre-ordering this, ugh.

It looks like side mini game isnt even incldued in the game on PC, it's a separate fee download. I guess it would have been cool if they bundled it in the game on switch but it doesnt feel like it's missing content or anything.

Aside from the sub native res, which is really only noticeable when some text is displayed (mainly the switch icon text being slightly blurry) what other downsides are there? It's not like it has framerate issues or input lag.

I checked Active Gaming Media twitter account but it seemed almost non-active. I may have seen the wrong one. Any answers?

And yes, I'm pretty sure Pixel has nothing to do with the port. If he had the port would have been better :)

None really. And that's a valid point regarding the add on DLC, but I still wish they would have slapped it on there. I'm doubting there will be many post release tweaks... I hope I'm wrong.

Yup, that was the right one. Not sure why they handled this port internationallly, given they seem a Japanese company, but maybe that made it easier in some ways?

What has he been working on as of late? Last time I checked on what he was up to, was a good year ago...

Finally bought Hollow Knight. Played it for half an hour and I can already tell I'm going to love it.

Joe Dever's Lone Wolf is basically a Fighting Fantasy book with turn-based combat. If you like to read, you'll probably love it, as the text is very well written. Some people don't like the combat; I didn't at first, then I lowered the difficulty level and I enjoy it now. I also I find it supercool that you're reading about the streets of a town and suddenly it gets rendered in 3D for your fight against the enemy.

The Flame in the Flood, I haven't played but someone made a great post about it a day or two ago in this thread.

And if you're looking for an old school RPG with Phantasy Star vibes... well, Cosmic Star Heroine is widely loved around here, but it has a peculiar combat system I don't like very much. It's definitely not bad, most people seem to like it a lot, but I don't and I think it kind of ruins the game for me, so you might want to watch the first few minutes of the game on YouTube to see what the combat feels like.

I've only played two games on that list, but they're both fantastic. Joe Dever's for you if you're into a D&D-themed choose your own adventure novel, and CSH is for you if you're into briskly paced Chrono Trigger crossed with Phantasy Star with a Bravely Default inspired battle system. Both are highly recommended and will offer ~15 hours of gameplay.

Has anyone tried Prison Architect and can comment on performance? I can't find a single review or preview of the Switch version and don't want to buy it if there are performance issues since I already own on PC

So any Prison Architect impressions?

Performance has been good so far. Game is great. And the Switch controls are surprisingly good. I don't have any issues with the game. Pretty deep game without feeling overly complicated.
