it definitely would sell A LOT, probably become the best selling third party game on switch. i think it'll happen but it's not my type of game so i don't really care.

If youre thinking of it, so are they probably. So yeah. And I would probably buy it because of portable. It's quite crazy how many games I would consifer if they'd hit the switch.

Regarding the 360 comment- is a switch more powerful than a full 360? Or just close enough it should be able to run any minimally ported 360 game? I thought la noire didn't look that great- but I also don't remember how it actually looked on 360

It is actually much better interms of hardware.

The main argument is GTA Online (which is the main part of GTA5 for Rockstar). It would be hard for the current gen version of it to run because it was already pushing the current gen consoles to their limits so imagine the Switch.

The Switch is way more powerful than a 360. The 360 would never be able to run Doom. So GTA V should not be an issue on Switch.

I mean, the Switch is getting freaking Saint Row 3. Three. As in the one before SR4. Anything is possible now.

I don't mean this negatively, as I love Nintendo, but would GTA Online be compatible with Switch and Nintendo's policies? GTA:O is where the money is and I feel like Nintendo's online connection might not be stable enough - as well as their resistance to voice chat etc.

For context, the 360/PS3 versions ran at 720p. LA Noire on Switch runs at 1080p docked and 720p undocked. I think the Switch version got some of the remaster graphics bundled in.

There are some moments where the performance utterly tanks, but I've played through it end to end and had no issues in the main. I would put that down to the port possibly needing additional time for refinement. Also, from what I read, the engine of LA Noire was designed around the Cell architecture, which is no mean feat to tailor to a mobile chip. It is the only time I've managed to get through the game having owned it on PS3 and PC.

Fun fact: Console manufacturers don't actually host a server for 3rd party games. They're all hosted by the game's developer/publisher.

it would be such a shame if that game was stuck on ps3/360 forever
I agree, I was replaying it yesterday and it still holds up.

The biggest hope we have is for Rockstar to remake it with the Redemption 2 assets and engine. I say this because it seems like it have the map of Redemption 1 included according to the leaks.

Networking is literally the same on Switch and other consoles. PS4 and Switch even use the same base networking stack.

Nope. It's probably not worth the time/money for a lesser version of the game with a comparatively smaller install base and R* probably wants to focus completely on RDR2.

Plus they're close to 100M copies shipped/sold so they're sitting pretty.

Possibly, leaving money on the table otherwise.
They seem pretty focused on delivering RDR2 without distraction right now though, maybe not until a while after that's landed.

It's unlikely, but still possible imo. I would have never guessed that Switch would get LA Noire.

if it did happen it would most likely be ported by another studio, rockstar won't do it themselves.

Take-Two would be an idiot to leave all the money to Nordic. But we all know Take-Two is a pretty idiotic company.

I still do believe that third parties hate switch. Even when their games sell and make money, they're not happy that Switch exists. They want the game industry to move forward, as in, for better tech and better graphics. Many studios don't want to waste their time in inferior hardware. I think a proof for this exists: Nagoshi's comments on Yakuza on Switch. He says audience isn't there. Bullshit. It is there and he knows it. He just don't want to be limited by its hardware. And ignores it completely by not releasing ports of the past games. I wouldn't be surprised is Take Two think similarly.

I would think/hope so.
Maybe depends how well LA Noire did, but even if it didn't, GTA V portable is pretty much a no-brainer.

If they don't, we at least have Saints Row the Third to fill in that space.

I'm honestly surprised it has not happened already.

I bought it on the ps3 and it was fun enough.

I'd probably rebuy on switch for some portable open world fuckin around fun.

For real, Saints Row is better at some GTA stuff than GTA is.

It's main feature, stealing vehicles, is way more lenient. ANYTHING you can steal, you can keep. I've never played SR online but I bet you don't have to pay a billion in game currency to keep your cars, hoverbikes, etc.

I WANT to buy GTAV for a fourth time. I'd even abandon my Level 300(iirc) GTAO character to start over on Switch. I can't say I'd buy Shark Cards though, which might be their main concern. And that's just sad.

Even if it's a slightly enhanced port of the PS360 versions, single player only, I think it would be successful. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened yet. You just gotta know there's a team at Rockstar trying to get GTA V running on phones.

Considering Rockstar's history with Nintendo, no.

There's also a reason why they stopped supporting the last gen versions a while ago and they're not going to do it without GTAO.

No, I don't think it will.

They want GTAV in the context of GTA Online, for obvious reasons. Nor do R* do technical things just because it would please or improve sales. They haven't even done Pro / X support, which is a no brainer and far lower effort move than porting the game. Nor did they do remasters of 4+DLC for PS4/XBO.

It would sell like gangbusters, especially considering how it is still selling everywhere.

Surprised we haven't heard anything about the possibility.

I would buy it for my Switch, but I honestly don't think it's going to happen. Because stuff I want doesn't happen, like a Metroid Prime Trilogy will never happen on Switch because I want it to happen.

Vern (who is one of others who has heavily hinted the game will come to Switch back in 2017) has been pretty much spot on with all his info in the past. Not to say that things don't change (they do all the time in any entertainment industry), but several facts remain:

1) L.A Noire was a gateway test for Switch, where TT was concerned. That 'test' was passed.

2) GTA V is still, after all this time, selling like crazy. It's not yet tapped out its audience on systems it's existed on for several years.

3) Switch is one of the fastest selling entertainment products of the last year and a half, let alone in the video games industry.

Take Two and Rockstar won't be discounting any of the above, even if factors (online support/infrastructure, cart size) may be causing them pause. And even then, both of those factors are not insurmountable. The question is, are either of them worth spending money on to get over? Given the above three facts, the answer is more than likely: yes. ROI projections alone would be positive, mainly due to the same above points. Doesn't make it 100%, but...

Some things to consider:

- Rockstar wouldn't port it itself, so it's not taking a vast amount of resource away from Red Dead 2.

- There's precedent for third parties launching games within mere months of them being announced. GTA V doesn't exactly need fanfare – it's almost entirely self-sufficient when it comes to marketing due to the strength of the brand.

- There will be a suite of third party games being used to help boost the online subscription service between next month and the end of Q4. Some announced, others yet to be revealed.

- There aren't that many 18+ rated games slated for Q3 to Q4 on Switch. Something like that doesn't go unnoticed with platform holders. There will likely be something to 'balance out' Pokemon and Smash.

I'm from the school of thought that it's more likely it's coming, than not.

I think they're probably waiting for bigger Switch carts. Would be shocked if it didn't happen.
