Enjoy the full list (top 650) here:

https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/list/

Where does your alma mater fall?

P.S. For some weird reason the Cost column seems to list out-of-state tuition + room/board expenses, not in-state tuition + room/board expenses. A little odd, because in-state-tuition is way lower. This is with regard to public universities.

For example, it lists UC Berkeley (14) to cost $65,003. There's no way that's accurate because the in-state tuition is only $11,502 and the out-of-state tuition is $39,516.

FYI, These are out of state tuition. At least all of the SUNY schools are. For those unaware, if you live in New York for example and go to a SUNY school, the amount you pay is DRASTICALLY lower than that list. Buffalo for example which is ~44k on that list for in state would be ~16k.

This I think will be true for most of the public schools whereas the private tuition is just what you see.

What a joke of a list.

I mean these lists are always jokes but this one is really bad.

CUNY MOTHERFUCKERS.

Shoutouts to my fellow CUNY bros and broettes that aren't broke. Our schools are trash, but at least we ain't poor!

#303, CUNY Hunter College for my masters

#466, SUNY Farmingdale State College for my undergrad.

Not complaining though, I liked both schools.

Also #160, Stevens Institute of Texhnology is a really nice school but is super expensive. Had an awesome view of the Empire State Building though.

The University of New Orleans is always woefully low on these lists.

If only the state didn't focus all its attention on LSU, leaving New Orleans unjustly underserved.

It didn't even end up being cheap for me either because I did the whole grad school thing and floundered around between majors.

Lol I played basketball for UNO- go privateers

Before Katrina we were much higher, our student body was decimated and never really recovered

Also these lists are crap, LSU is a much easier school. I took classes there and I can tell you along with other friends who did the same. Uno is much harder scholastically.

Not ranked. Have the same job as those ranked highly, paid off loans 4 years after graduating. People put wayyyyy too much weight in school rankings. As long as you are smart and focused, you'll make it in the top 75% regardless of how many sacks of cash you burn. For engineering anyway.

Wait, am ranked. Didn't teach scrolling at UT Knoxville. We all just played banjos and spat in a jar.

#604. Anyone worse than that here (counting ranked only)?

Side note: I scored in the 80th and 90th percentiles on my GRE, so I'll echo what someone else in this thread said: School rank only matters so much, put in the hard work and you'll get to where you want.

I went to LSU for a year before switching to UNO (as did, like, half my high school class from the GNO - only a handful stayed at LSU).

It's like this thing where LSU fandom is so omnipresent that it's sorta a given that you'll go there.

Then you get there, live on campus for a bit, and realize UNO is a much better deal.

And LSU's music school is stuck up its own ass. They were entirely unwelcoming to the guitar playing metal head I was as a young adult, whereas the UNO music staff were like, "You like music? So do we! Come learn with us!"

They turned me into a piano player.

While true, going to a better school does have tangible benefits. Mainly, you network with smarter people (more generally) which means that as you progress in your career you have more connections in better more impressive positions. It's also easier to get a job as better companies recruit from your school.

Has anyone ever asked you in an interview what university you went to ? I sure haven't been
I guess if you went to Harvard you just put it in bold on your resume

Yes, recruiting is easier I'll acknowledge that. I had to go through another department to get to R&D. Small 1 year detour to get the same job with the same performance at a fraction of the cost.

I have some coworkers that after 10 years are still paying basically a car payment per month.

Being a high GPA grad at an okay school (it is at least on the list LOL) I always heard "Well I went to Purdue". Funny how we end up with the same job(s).

The comment about networking is true though, I have met with and worked with many people from my school. If I had gone to Purdue or U of I I would probably have better contacts. In the end I have a great job and make good money.

I think people dont realize that those schools in top 10 give substantial need based financial aid.

It's not really expensive at all.
