I live in a giant bucket.
What a success story this game is.

Also thrilled to see WarioWare Gold is already the third best-selling 3DS game this year, even if it didn't make the general Top 20. Hopefully that'll make up for Japan's slack.

I think Sony's pricing strategy certainly hurts the initial legs of a game. Everyone's conditioned to wait for the price drop to $40 or cheaper. GOW will certainly be available for $30 if not $20 on Black Friday
Joke post I hope? It was top three for three months and even now it's still in the top 20. Those are amazing legs, so not sure what you're talking about.

But ... it demonstrably has not hurt God of War. What am I missing?
If you're not first, you're last. Probably.

I don't get it either. It's literally exhibiting Nintendo game style sales. It's four months out from release, and continues hanging out in top game sold charts worldwide, especially in places like the UK where it is still top three. The concern trolling for the game seems to me to be misplaced.

Yall care too much about this dude's opinion. Approximately 1 million people didn't give enough of a fuck to stop them from buying it. Why are yall still so salty over this shit? Let it go.

Any way. Octopath sales give me life. That game was mad fun. I know they said no DLC but I want a challenge mode badly. In addition it looks like Crash had a solid July. It must have crushed it to be 2nd on the Xbox One chart.

Did Jason say the game was gonna bomb? I thought he just didn't like it. Why everybody keep bringing him up
Yes and no. He made a tweet about how so many people were realizing the game was bad a few days after the game had launched.
Not explicitly saying it would flop, but he seemed to be very determined to push the narrative that the game was bad, and everybody thought it was bad.

That was forced to. They're required to release Fifa once on every platform as part of their license. 19 is, afaik, a roster update

Nope 19 is a big update compared to 18 on Switch. You had a video from IGN saying that 19's biggest improvement is the Switch version.

They added the option to make online matches with friends and made FUT richer. They are also releasing a new SKU for the game, the Champion's Edition.

You'd be wrong. They are updating and improving numerous aspects of FIFA 19 for Switch release. It may lack the Journey mode, but it isn't a simple roster update. FIFA 18 sold very well on Switch.

That's on him he don't like. He's rude for trying to push that dislike on ppl but again nothing to do with sales. It sold it's regarded as a good game, any Jason mention is just pettiness to counter his pettiness

There is a reason why Frostbite never got ported to Switch....its easier to answer these questions when you can just say that our house engine doesn't support the console.

I don't care for EA but it's a bummer that we are never going to see a Stat Wars title on Switch.

Look at how well ports and remasters are doing. As someone else pointed out, the chart features

A game built in the style of 1995
A 5 year old game
A 4 year old game.
A collection of 90s games.

And minecraft is on there too.

Clearly state of the art graphics is not a prerequisite for profits.

Of course they did, those regions are much bigger than Japan. The contrary happening would be strange.

Well Square Enix wasn't even planning on releasing Bravely Default outside of Japan so I doubt they expected it. It only happened because Nintendo wanted to release it worldwide.

Wow Go Vacation bomba.

I thought it would be a sleeper hit, better than Captain Toad.

Cut the price Nintendo and im in

Go vacation sales trend is interesting. It had a tame launch in Europe but didnt went down since and managed to chart in the top5 for the first time multiple weeks after launch like in Spain or France and even #1 in Italy.

Game has the potential to be indeed a sleeper hit, and I would expect sales to pick up a lot during the Holidays.

selling 1M for the kind of game it was was an amazing achievement. giving the sequel a smaller budget was dumb as fuck.

and that went on to sell 700K!

so what do you do for the next game? massively undership and miss an important holiday in japan. great fuckin move. they may have already greenlit more games from Asano's team, but damn they fucked up from obvious cues. thank god for Nintendo saving those games

and they're still not applying these lessons to Dragon Quest 11

That's much more on SEE and other subsidiaries than Japan which is flawless there with DQ11. They're the ones who do marketing and publishing for the title here after all. DQ11 is already paid.

why EA....?
i guess madden but eh.

I dunno how you look at EA's portfolio and think they are leaving huge money on the table ignoring Switch. When has EA ever been like "we sold 1m units, huge huge success"?

The only game I think EA should have on Switch is Garden Warfare. Otherwise I am not seeing it. Hopefully Fifa 19 does solid on Switch since they seemingly made a good update to it over 18.

Why? It's almost 5 years old and until this month it was the top system seller all year. They'd be leaving money on the table specially with Spiderman next month. Is got rdr marketing, they are set for the holidays with maybe some black Friday sales. Maybe next year there might be a permanent reduction on price but right now they wouldn't drop it

Spider. Man. PS4. Pro. Bundle.

Nah. They are probably more than ok selling what they will last month and this month. Next month they have Spider-man dropping in the first week of sept. Already seeing people say they will buy a PS4 when it drops. Sony isn't going to leave that money on the table.

Then in Oct. They have marketing the RDR2 and COD. Best thing to hope for is a holiday price drop during Black Friday.

I guess 2019 it is then for a permanent price drop. Sony isn't concerned about bragging rights on forums or winning monthly npds but rather maximizing profit and so with hotly anticipated software on the horizon, it doesn't make sense to lower price at the moment. I guess you could apply that argument with next year as well with all tidal wave of both 1st and 3rd party launches. It also makes me think that PS5 is a longer ways off than many believe because of the plethora of games incoming and no permanent heavily discounted drop in price yet ( I don't think $50 is a large enough amount to really yield discernible results).

I don't disagree lol, I was just giving you the context. Jason likes what he likes, no point dredging all that up again.

Good point. Also the game had very little or no advertising.

I can see it being a good bonus game this holiday. If you're buying your kids mario kart, they'll also love Go Vacation!

They didn't even see Switch as a good fit for the Burnout Remaster and that wasn't shifting millions of units anywhere.

Their big Holiday game is Battlefield though.

They are obv. leaving money on the table since they didn't try with Burnout, Sims or PvZ Garden Warfare ....but there isn't much you can do for them to change their approach.

It's weird seeing them so stubborn when Actvision Blizzard , Take 2, Bethesda and co. are all willing to improve their relationship with Nintendo and make some money on Switch even if their past system wasn't viable for them.

I know that, the intention of Asano (or other producer) was to make the game only for japanese audience. Still, the argument about selling more than Japan when overseas is obviously a much bigger market isn't that good.

But none of that has anything to do with this thread and sales...he doesn't like the game. Congratulate said game instead of that pettiness
Sure, one does not forbid the other. It's a joke.
Yes and no. He made a tweet about how so many people were realizing the game was bad a few days after the game had launched.

Basically this ^.

Oh absolutely. It's still in a more good-humored way than what he did say in the past, and still do.
But yeah, it's about sales now, and it was just a few jokes in this thread not worth getting upset about. It was just as ridiculous as some coming in every XC2 thread in the goal of derailing it, or the same can be said for Persona 5, FFXV, or many other titles (strangely mostly in the same genre). It's in good fun and reinforces the fact that a game did extremely well on many levels despite what some people were trying to do.
As you've said, no point going further on this topic.
