Sorry if this has been discussed in AGDQ threads before but seriously... you need to watch this Dragon Warrior run.

It has excellent commentary throughout (a must for me!) and we see the speed runner basically manipulating the games RNG by counting frames to get through areas without being attacked, spawn specific enemies at specific times and even to get the strongest attacks when he attacks. It's unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it. Any other recommended AGDQ runs with great commentary explaining exactly what they're doing? The classic Ocarina speedrun was amazing obviously.

there was a mirrors edge run in one of recent events that i remember being very informative but i could be wrong.

there's the snes mario kart race that finished unbelievably close and was hype during the entire event but fuck if i cant remember the year of if its sgdq, agdq, zgdq or whatevs. hopefully someone else can remember it as well

Yep, easily one of the highlights of this year's ADGQ. The RNG manipulation was ridiculous

Also, I respect the skill of speedrunners, but being capable to deliver great commentary as well is something that I appreciate just as much

I can't believe that this guy is delivering this coherent and interesting commentary while doing all of that frame counting. It's unreal.

i saw this earlier. btw, what an amazing game for the time it came out. love the sprite when you hold the princess and how the dragon lords final form dips over the UI of the battle text. so epic.

Some of these runners I hope have or are working to find career paths that can incorporate their absurd detail oriented ability to learn and digest these factors on the fly in a live environment. It's very impressive.

One of my faves is this Viewtiful Joe run, while not consistently funny, the runner does know how to play the audience during his time. Check out minute 13:20 onwards.

I feel like this is the only game outside of Mario 1 I could reasonably speedrun, but...minus all that insane RNG business.

I just love GDQ in general because this kind of crazy stuff (maybe not THIS crazy) happens all the time. It's just so damn fascinating.

Loved when that dude beat Punch Out blindfolded. Fucking what.

Easily my favorite run of this year's AGDQ. The almost magical RNG manipulation and fantastic commentary made it a joy to watch. I've been watching AGDQ and SGDQ for a about 4 years now and it's one of best runs I've seen in that time.

That DQ1 run was amazing to see live because I remember seeing a proof of concept for how a perfect rng run of the game would look 15 years ago, but it had to rely on save states and emulation tricks to work because rng manipulation hadn't been figured out yet.

I don't know what's more shocking, that he's able to keep the RNG state and all the other game states in mind, that he's able to accurately count frames to manipulate them, or that he's able to do both while explaining what he's doing to the audience. It's truly hypnotic to watch, like a mix of Neo seeing the hidden Matrix code and the Oracle predicting precisely what was going to happen (particularly loved when he predicted exactly the steps that the NPCs were going to take to confirm the state of the RNG).
