This is a Japanese live action film based on the popular manga/anime of the same name that just hit Japanese theaters on July 20. This will be listed as a "Netflix Original" for nearly all territories outside of Japan. I believe the film covers the "Substitute Shinigami" arc of the first 8 volumes of the manga.

I am looking forward to watching this movie and I hope you will all watch it with me.

Trailer:

Please try to keep the usual diet racism that comes with these threads to a minimum:
'Japanese actors are terrible because I saw one movie and it was bad'
'Why can't Hollywood adapt my favorite animes instead of inferior Japanese'
'I hate how the high school guys look so old, what, no I've never see a John Hughes film'

Criticize the film for what it is, not what your personal bias is.

as an expert in Japanese Toku, I am actually ready for this. As long as teh CGI is 2000s level I will be happy

DAY ONE. I need my eventual live action social society arc.

Will wait for reviews. If they adapt the start of the series well enough that would be cool. Though I wouldn't really care for anything after the Soul Society arc tbh. If they're smart and they get a sequel after this, they should get rid of the Aizen stuff from the Soul Society Arc and just make the ending more definitive.

Definitely worth a watch, was always curious how well this adaptation would turn out. Better than Dragonball Evolution I'm sure.....

Looks better than the FMA film.
As far as live action films go, Rurouni Kenshin trilogy was pretty good.

I'll check this out.

If they stick to the source material then this should be good. It appears to take place before Bleach became absolute garbage.

I'm pretty excited for this. Early Bleach was tons of fun, hope they got it right.

FWIW this is not a Netflix original, it was a theatrical release in Japan Netflix just got the rights to outside of Japan.

I...I think I want to watch this. Especially since it's the first 8 volumes. Hopefully Ichigo's friends are focused on somewhat.

Coming from someone who really isn't into much anime, I loved this series, especially the music. Hopefully this is good.

If it doesn't have NUMBER ONE blaring through at least two fight scenes I'm not really sure I want to watch it.

The quality of this adaptation is equal to how ludacris Orihimes tits are in size on the actress. So I have no idea.

from the trailer, it looks way better than what I anticipated. Also it seems they stay on Earth, so no Aiden bullshit

Not sure if you're joking, but that's absolutely what it is.

Kubo Tite is super into american 90's music. Each character is influenced by a rock song from that era.

This is all Jeff Gerstmanns fault!

Seriously though, I would love to see the P&L of these Netflix shows. It seems like they are putting out just show after show and seeing what is sticking. I couldn't believe all those lackluster shows like Gypsy, Santa Clarita Diet, Friends from College Netflix put out. On the other hand, you have shows like 13 reasons why which completely took off, bojack horseman that now got picked up by Comedy Central. Just a totally different landscape.

Eeehhh I don't think it's racism to say that Japanese live action is overacted most of the time which makes it super awkward. Though Kamen Rider 555 was okay I guess. I've seen a bunch of shows and the acting just bugs the shit out of me.

It's a movie and Netflix didnt create this, they just have the distribution rights for outside Japan.... so.

Looks pretty good. I'm not sure I care about watching the first arc of Bleach where he's just a ghostbuster.

I'm pretty sure Fullmetal Alchemist will end up being better (which isn't saying much), but I'm still going to watch it. I quite liked Bleach after all.

I wish they had an american teen just walk in and become the main character.

But cool they made this thing.
