Kadokawa Games really need a subsidiary at least on US for their releases on the west for some time already.

Der Langrisser is one of my all time favorites. They better not screw this up.

I need to go back and attempt to finish Langrisser 1, but I figure it's only a matter of time before I fail to level and stop doing damage to the enemies again.

Will keep an eye on this. Western localization doubtful given the series very very niche status but interested nonetheless.

Really nice to see this series get some love again. One of my introductions to the SRPG genre (under the first US release, "Warsong"), and I still consider IV and V such excellent games. Too bad Satoshi Urushihara won't be back for the art, and I'm worried that the graphics will reek of low-budgetness (Langrisser IV and V have such nice tile-based art).

I wonder if they'll add any elements from future titles into the systems of these ones? Like, I'd be up for what are basically support conversations from 3 (expand it from just being female allies), but would prefer they keep the platoon stuff out of it.

After that 3DS remake of sorts?

Ha

Ha

Ha...

now I'm sad
I dunno, I'm pretty positive on Kadokawa SRPGs after God Wars.

EDIT: Character designer of Ar Tonelico... Hm, not terrible. Should be noted he's responsible for the earlier, relatively less pervy Tonelico designs (1-3), and not Ar Nosurge (though there are still some shitty designs in the original trilogy).

Why would anyone be excited for Langrisser as an IP in the year 2018? All the talent who made the series what it is went on to Careersoft and then Atlus. They're still together as a team. Langrisser -> Growlanser -> Devil Survivor. Don't get excited for IP grave robbery k?
I mean, I'm just automatically excited when it comes to SRPGs (and much prefer Langrisser to Growlanser), plus they're working from a pretty strong foundation here.

My fleeting hope is that them remaking existing games might keep things on track more than them struggling to come up with something new.

Of course, I guess them retooling systems and stuff means they could just as easily mess things up.

You had to be there, back when the information wasn't fully available.
Don't make fun of people for forgetting for a minute that gaming in 2018 sucks.

I don't know why my brain warped this into a Growlanser thing. Close, but no cigar.

I'm down for this either way.

oh no

The character designer also did the new designs for the YU-NO remake, which are pretty bland :(

Basically sucked out the personality of a lot of characters.

So is Iwadare really the only one of the original team to be back? That's disappointing.

Ryo Nagi is fine but is going to be so freaking weird to not have Urushihara.

For now I will remain cautious on this one.

Actually, on this note, what was the last game they shipped, and when did it come out?

I am conflicted. I hope these remakes are good in spite of having a completely different staff and art style, but my optimism is rather limited. Bad remakes do tend to happen with some frequency.

The 3DS Langrisser was a tragedy. It would be a shame if that remained the only officially localized entry for people outside of Asia (as opposed to telling folks to go emulate the fan translation of Der Langrisser, which is a great entry) .

This can't be as bad as that, surely.

I just heard that supposedly there was a recent mobile game release in China and that it is apparently doing well too.

I feel like I've entered the most niche obscure realm of JRPGs....these are RPGs right?
