Officially announced on the stream now. Slightly different trailer, and a few moments of gameplay environments.

They seem to be calling it Desperados and not really referring to it as 3 like the original video said (it was titled Desperados 3 but the title drop just said Desperados), so might be a reboot.

Technically, Helldorado was Desperados 3. Given the age and obscurity of the IP, I don't think there's much value in making a direct sequel. A reboot makes much more sense, especially with a new developer in charge. As for characters, three of the ones in the trailer were from the original games, two were new.

WHAT.

The original is one of my personal favourite games, and one I feel is criminally underplayed. I'll be watching the development of this like a hawk and I will use it as an excuse to play through the existing three games. (Bought but never played the sequels).

Holy shit, I never would've thought that this series would ever come back. I loved the first Desperados to death.

HAHAHAHAHA YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Holy shit gamescom is delivering.
Desderados 1 is one of my favourite game ever. But this is no Desperados 3. Desperados 3 released and was called Helldorado.

Love that the trailer is the quicksave quickload feature in a nutshell lol

So from the trailer:
-Cooper of course
-Motherfucking Doc MCcoy
-Kate
-Sanchez with a beard
-Where the fuck is ma boi Sam?! Are the disrespecting the snake+tnt combo?
-New female character that seems like a psychic with a cat.
-quicksave and reload function is in so i hope it plays like the original.
-The character artsyle is a little meh.

I really REALLY hope it comes in spanish like the first one (the second and third only came in english) becuase one of the big enjoyments of this games are the phrases the characters spout when you make them do actions and the spanish dub was magnificent. I still quote the game with a friend.
Im from Spain, and no matter how much im proud Commandos 1 and 2 where spanish games, Desperados was much better in my opinion.

Absolutely adored Shadow Tactics, one of my favorite games of the generation. Can't wait to get my hands on this beauty

I'm not familiar with the former Desperado games so i'm considering this as Shadow Tactics 2 in a western setting, which it seems to be judging by the RPS preview. A new feature (compared to Blades of the Shogun) is the addition of friendly zones where you can wander around and relax.

Anyhow, day one and one of my most anticipated games in 2019. It's going to be a long wait...

On second viewing the trailer is actually pretty great! Save scumming ftw! Trial and error has always been an integral part of these games.

From a gameplay perspective, it basically looks like a re-skinned Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. While I'm fine with that, a part of me was hoping their next game would look and play a lot differently. Because the original Desperados, while obviously inspired by Commandos, was a completely different game.

Release appears to be 2019 so I still have my fingers crossed.

I am incredibly hyped about this. I loved the first one, and I loved Shadow Tactics from Mimimi, which was a spiritual successor to both Commandos and Desperados series.

Day 1 for me and I will double dip that one too.

game looks good but not a fan of the art. The original's painted style is so pretty. This trailer look like telltale games :\

Holy shit that RPS preview.
The artstyle is fucking great and they are the same guys as Shadow Tactics.

I know he said there would be other types of missions that only hitman assassination ones, but i hope that kill everyone in a camp, the in the middle of a war, the escape from sanchez fortress, the recruit a new character... missions are still in in a similar fashion as the original game and in spades, i dont want this game turn primarly into Hitman.

The new David Crocket character is too similar to Sanchez so I hope he wasnt axed from the team, and hope also Sam is one of the old characters returning you can recruit midgame.
The psychic girl and Crocket guy seem to be the new faces so I hope they are fun to play and hear. The psychic girl seems very similar to Mia Yung, but with a cat instead of a monkey, so I wouldnt be surprised she was axed also (she was already axed from the sequels).

I dont know if I like the max 5 characters. Loved the final missions on the original with the whole team interacting on them, and in that game they were cooper, sam, doc, kate, sanchez and Mia Yung, so they were 6.

Seems the trailer was comissioned to another studio. Look the game, has handpainted art and artsyle very reminiscent of the roginal.

I absolutely loved Shadow Tactics so this has very quickly grabbed my attention

Not played the original game, but might have to check it out (especially since it got updated recently for modern systems). The pre-rendered backgrounds in that still look pretty lovely.

Any game from the Shadow Tactics devs would have my interest, so this is good news to be sure.

Really want to play it, although people shouldn't expect something drastically new. So far it looks like a Shadow Tactics re-skin with some new features.
E.g. Cooper got mostly Hayato's skillset and can throw a knife and toss a coin, in addition he has to different pistols. Sanchez is a combination of Yuki and Mugen, he has Yuki's traps and whistles but is as strong as Mugen and probably the only one to kill the stronger guards (re-skinned Samurai enemies).
So probably the skills are are a little bit more mixed up for the remaining characters. e.g. the mystery woman has a cat which probaby acts like the tanuki, however the sniper rifle is on a different character.

I had a lot of fun with Shadow Tactics and the "social areas" sound like a good idea.

Would have preferred a WW2 Setting, but Western is okay. WW2 next time, hopefully!(?) :)

Isnt it more like Shadow Tactics used the exact same archetypes as the original Desperados?
Cooper was ALWAYS like this, but they removed the pocketwatch (why?) for a coin toss (i hope is not to make a fucking hitman joke)
The big guy is not Sanchez, he is called Hector and seems like a parody of Davy Crocket, but he says amigo (why again?) and has the all of sanchez moves (like they thought it was too much of a walking stereotype to be in this game). The traps seems similar to Sam's snake but more gruesome and one shot instead of multiple kills like the snake.
The new character seems also a very similar character to Mia Yung, the chinese girl, that had a monkey in the first game.
Doc is the the sniper and chemist character on the first game and Kate the femme fatale (they seem relatively unchanged if we go by the CG trailer).
Sam is strnagely missing as the explosives, laying traps guy.

Frankly the new characters seem incredible meh and clones of older characters, and I dont mind much for Mia, becuase her character came too late into the original game and wasnt as charismatic as the rest, and need to see more of the cat lady, but losing Sanchez for a davy crocket parody.... Why not create new characters for those instead of taking out fan favourites.
I can see Sam appearing in the middle of the game, because all his moves (except the trap) are not part of the 2 new characters, but Sanchez seems too similar to Hector to be a coincidence.

I had a lot of fun with Shadow Tactics and the "social areas" sound like a good idea.

No, this is not Commandos. I think Commandos was sold to another dev.

Great, Desperados is the uncrowned king of the genre, the Shadow Tactics people are probably the only ones who can do it justice.

Not really sure I like what the trailer is going for, but I'm 100% down for more (good) Desperados.

PS. They fixed Desperados on Steam, go get it, it's still great.

Game looks great and will definitely be picking this up next year. Loved Shadow Tactics and I really hope Kalypso gets Mimimi for Commandos.

It does feel really nice when a subgenre can make a genuine comeback, find both popular and critical success and improve on the formula without changing what made it good in the first place.

Sweet! Hopefully they will bring that to the consoles too! I loved the proper Commandos games on PC years ago. I believe they even came with a fps but man, that wasn't good, lol.

Yeeeep; Commandos Strike Force was... not so good, lmao. The other games are fucking great and I hope we will see those remastered as well in the near future

Shadow Tactics was so good. One of the few times I'm sold by a review and it pays off completely. Thanks Tim Stone RPS
