While it might play overly safe with it's overt Arkham influences, more content with taking the familiar road than risk venturing into new territory, this is hardly a major detriment as the Arkham design template fits Spidey like a glove. In the absence of any real Arkham successor, a series already potentially overstaying its welcome, Spider-Man sufficiently fills the genre void with tightly executed game design and a confident presentation that supplants Batman's dark and gloomy Arkham with Spider-Man's colourful style of adventure and spirit. The core adventure comes to its conclusion a little quicker than expected, and New York City has little in the way of major diversions other than trinket hunts and the occasional side mission, but the time spent within is worth the investment. Rich with personability and identity, Insomniac's Spider-Man is an excellent starting point in what we can only hope with lead to longer, more content dense adventures in the future.

+ Enjoyable, well paced campaign with great callbacks and references for hardcore Spidey fans.
- Safe game design may feel a little too familiar for Arkham veterans.
