Is Cohen more important than just the Stormy Daniels stuff? It's really hard to keep straight which crimes/treason go with which tangential individuals.

It's all part of the same thing really...What really scares Trump is that this guy has been hiding the bodies for a very long time for him...He knows every shady deal and if Trump is as dirty as we all think he is, we are about to find out.
Yup. He's surrendering to federal law enforcement for fingerprinting and general booking.
He could just plead guilty for a shorter sentence and not say a thing, could he not?
That is the benefit. Prosecutors do this literally every day of the year. "Bird in the hand" and all that. No DA wants to walk up to their boss and tell them, "Hey that guy who wanted to cop a guilty plea? I'd rather wing it myself." That's crazy.
Well, criminally. Politically, it's another conviction on the pile of Trump-related convictions. It's certainly not a win for him.

I don't think this comes down to Russian election meddling. I think it comes down to pay-for-play and other financial crimes. One of the things that has shaken out of the Manafort trial is the way they use loans to mask payments, which makes the long list of shady coincidences hard to ignore.
The GOP is going to turn a blind eye to election meddling and obstruction of justice -- they're already on their own campaigns to suppress and gerrymander the vote. But flat-out bribery, I think that's enough to muster some outrage.

It depends on what the testimony is. If he used campaign funds to do and Cohen can prove that in an unambiguous way, then that's a big deal.

No. Any "plea" deal is likely connected to his cooperation...if the prosecutors feel that they were stiffed in any way, they can recommend the Judge throw the book at him...it wouldn't end well.
That's exactly the sort of thing you'd do if all you'd agreed to was a lesser sentence.
This is probably why the limited scope of what he's testifying about. Attorney client privilege doesn't apply to commissioning a crime from your attorney.
Trump if given the opportunity can and will throw everyone under the bus to save his own hide. This is just what happens when you throw the fucker who has the receipts under the bus.
