Nothing personal against Nate Drake (who is a moderator to boot) but as far as I remember he's had some things regarding the Switch very, very wrong back in the past (unless I am mixing him up with someone else, in which case I deeply apologize), and so I would take this with a huge grain of salt. Also, his sources could be speculating (or heard someone speculating). Then again it could of course also be true, but networking is what most were speculating before all this came up, so...
My Switch battery info and it being Pascal-based are the main misses. It happens.

I'm tempted in that I played through every Souls game at launch and never touched any of the DLC. With that release date it should be faily cheap by Black Friday.

Even if this is a mere coincidence and bad timing regarding different releases, I'm so tired of 3rd party bs like this by now. It really takes away from my excitement and goodwill towards those companies.

- Too many DS re-releases on such a short time-frame;
- Launching the same day as DS Remastered on Switch and possibly even cheaper (for sure it will sell less now)
Ok, but why does that matter? Honest question. This will just give extra exposure to the serie. Its already released games just bundled together.

I doubt that its cheaper. The Switch version is $40. Thats also still the official price of the PS4/Xbox One/PC remaster.

I too, am angry about this weird af decision by bamco. But you can't really think a platform will only thrive with the exclusive output of a single company do you? Quit that toxic mindset, third parties ARE welcome and more importantly, give the Switch an additional place in the market by playing them in handheld mode, no need to go any further than Fortnite.

I've never implied Nintendo should stop working with third parties (because that would be stupid) but their platforms aren't successes because of them, so their priority should be to expand their internal development, because external publishers are always going to prioritize the other two platform holders, for a number of reasons, many of which are completely legitimate.

It's less "will only thrive" and more "can thrive."

Everyone wants more third party support for the Switch but it's looking increasingly likely that, unless Nintendo makes another 100% traditional powerful console, their consoles will only ever get the equivalent of table scraps from most third parties (though I'd say it's unlikely to change even if they did make a PS5/XB2 clone in a few years). However, the Switch is still doing incredibly well because of Nintendo's first and second party output. Nintendo should, therefore, invest more in that output instead of investing heavily into third party which too often ends up with shit-shows like this.

Well, time to consolidate. I'll sell all three copies of the Dark Souls games I have for PS4 already and buy the steelbook with credit. Yep. That's the plan.

I'm not sure this would do anything for Switch sales. If people want to play on the go, they'll get that version.

Ok but still, why releasing it the same day? it seems such a greedy move, and i'm sure it will impact DS Remastered sales. (how can you advertise both, people will ask themselves why buying it DS1 on Switch when you can have all 3 on one single package)

Yeah, is a weird move (particularly to those who already bought the first DS remaster) but I still believe the other DS games are also going to be released on Switch, is just that making a collection of those games would be much more expensive because of cartridges.

This is great for me, I love the series but oddly enough I only have the original releases of each one and I haven't play any of the DLC. Will wait for the price, but I'm hoping it will be cheaper than buying them separately.

Maybe Bamco think Switch owners don't own other consoles and will buy whatever given to them.

The people who want it on Switch and have waited this long likely want it for the portability/flexibility. They can get all the Souls games on PS4 or Xbox for this same price now if they wanted to, this changes nothing. Skyrim was available on everything and for much cheaper for years and that didn't stop the $60 Switch version from selling. It's a different audience. It's legitimately blowing my mind that people are getting so bent out of shape about this.

It's not a toxic mindset lol, it's just reality. Of course third parties are welcome on the platform, but Nintendo still isn't getting anywhere near the third party support that the other two are getting. They should be prepared to have a lineup that fills in those gaps and the third parties that want to come along for the ride are more than welcome.

I'm not so sure anymore...

Really wanted to get Dark Souls on Switch but the Trilogy will probably be at the same price as Dark Souls on Switch during Black Friday. Don't see the point in getting the Switch version anymore, regardless of its portability (I don't have Dark Souls 2 though, so I guess this goes in favor of buying the Trilogy in my case).

Why are people angry of this release? People are afraid that the Switch version will sell less?

Personally I don't care if it sells less, but I have more incentive to pick up the Trilogy on another console. Namco Bandai has handled this release about as poorly as they possibly could and with the Trilogy available for a little more, I'll probably just get that now so I have everything on a single system, DLC, and that Steelbook.

Great timing there lol. Good thing I don't care about Dark Souls in general. This is the same Bamco that released Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on Switch at full price a year and a half after the PS4 release, with none of the released DLC included. And they're doing the same with DB FighterZ. But then, in fairness to them, XV2 sold gangbusters on Switch, so there's that.

My Switch battery info and it being Pascal-based are the main misses. It happens.

Also, you're not actually not the protagonist of Uncharted. Lies! Nothing but lies!

Surely someone at Nintendo is making a phonecall right now and handing out some abuse? Bandai Namco are basically giving Switch owners the finger and asking them to suck on it.

I'm sure a lot of people are upset considering the remastered just came out, but I'm excited for this! I didn't get Remastered yet (DS is one of my most played games of all time), have never played the DLC from the 1st and 2nd game, and have never played the 3rd game. Yup, totally excited for this one! Now let's see what the price for it will be...

You can get the Trilogy now if you really want to. Maybe the steelbook means that much to you and others here, but most of the audience in the market for the Switch version isn't going to care about a steel book.

If the $80 price tag is confirmed then maybe someone should put it in the OP (or the title) so people stop making assumptions about what the price will be.

My first thought when I read the title is "I thought this was already out."

Were the remasters sold separately and this is bundled in a single purchase?

Thats fair enough, but in that case it doesnt sound lik this is anything negative for you. You just have more options, and you choose to get the one that you feel fits your choice the best.

For me, the biggest insentive to get the Switch version was always the portability aspect, and to cater to those who play mostly exclusive on Nintendo platforms. Those things are still there.

I love threads like these where most of ERA is just straight up confused as to why a publisher thinks THEY will buy it.

Not everything is aimed at you guys specfically. LOL

huh, this is like the time EA released mass effect 3 for the wiiu and the whole trilogy for the other consoles. couldn't they have picked a later date? it definitely makes the switch remaster seem like a less appealing product.
nintendo has to be pretty unhappy with this whole thing, first they announce the game in a direct, it gets massively delayed and doesn't launch with the other version, and now they have a better bigger product coming for cheaper (i assume the trilogy is 60$?) on the exact same date? pretty shitty thing to do.

Nintendo: We're pissed, Bandai Namco!!
Bandai Namco: We're developing Smash Bros Ultimate, Metroid Prime 4, and Ridge Racer 8 for you. Deal with it.
Nintendo: Ok.

maybe the price accounts for the same, because the trilogy will be 80s bucks

but dont try to deny that this looks bad on the head of the masses, switch is getting 1 game and the other platforms are getting a trilogy, it doesn't matter if those game are already available, people will only see, 1 game vs 3 games.

The issue with the Mass Effect fiasco is that ME3 on Wii U was launched at $60 and the Trilogy on the other platforms was like $30 or something like that. That's not the case here at all.

Pretty much this.
It's a bad outlook in terms of mindshare and marketing for the Switch version.

Yeah, this is a big fat middle finger to Nintendo here. There's definitely some sort of publishing dispute going on behind doors that we're not privy to here.

The corporate equivalent of abuse then. There's no doubt in my mind someone at Nintendo is sitting in a room and thinking 'WTF?'.

Why would they care? Look how many titles, from indie digital games to big AAA games, have performed well on Switch despite their being cheaper options readily available on other platforms? Why would this be any different? Nintendo has a captive audience with the Switch. The success of Dark Souls was never going to hinge on the existence of the DS trilogy on other platforms.
