So what's the over/under of a Marvel cab actually existing eventually?
I won't be able to take pre-built components apart just yet. Most review units have embargo terms that prevent reviewers from taking pictures like that.
Interesting. I would have bet money that all of the hardware was in the pre-assembled control deck. I'm surprised the actual computing hardware is mounted directly to the monitor. Now I'm curious what's in there lol. Thanks for answering my question!
I doubt the issue would be Capcom though...I imagine if this current lineup sells well you'll likely see it. They've already got the relationship with Capcom with the Street Fighter release.
Yeah I'm guessing there is a standard gpio connection on the single board computer. Could be a pi in there.
Yep. It's like a whole new world. Such a great device with loads of support. If anyone else is interested in making your own arcade cabinet you might also find this useful:
Saw someone point out elsewhere that the monitor for this thing is 1280x1024 (you can google the model name 170ETN01 from the pictures posted in this thread) which is a 5:4 monitor. So the aspect ratio is a little off here and you can kinda tell in the video reviews a bit.
Guess it makes sense - 4:3 LCDs are kinda uncommon.

250 nits, 1000:1 contrast (supposedly according to that data sheet). Not the worst numbers ever.
Any chance it's IPS?

Sure didn't look IPS when I checked it out at Evo.
You can see the colors invert if you're off axis but for the most part the monitor is totally acceptable lMHO.
Isn't 4:3 to 5:4 a very small difference though? Seems like 75 vs 80% width/height. Am i doing that wrong?Yuck.
I'm super sensitive to aspect ratios and this would drive me nuts.

Pinouts wouldn't be too hard to work out at all, I'm sure it would be pretty basic to knock up an adapter if you wanted to.Yeah that ain't jamma. Oh well. Thanks for the through in depth review.
So Argos here in the UK have now listed a couple of cabinets for sale at £450 each. Both cabinets are different to what is being sold in the US. £450 does include 20% VAT but it's still quite a mark up on the $299 in the US. I'm really not quite sure how they will do at that price point
The first cabinet has SF2, Ghosts N Goblins, Final Fight and Strider - http://www.argos.co.uk/product/8625872
The second cabinet interestingly is Space Invaders on its own - http://www.argos.co.uk/product/8625906
I would have jumped in for that Capcom bundle if released stateside. No offense to everyone, I love Street Fighter, but I don't need an arcade game with 3 different copies.
You know... I'm *really* wondering whether they just have the wrong pics on that listing for the Street Fighter cabinet... the last pic is of the Champion Edition cab and no where in the product description does it list what games are included. I'd say it's likely that they are mistakenly using old pics...
Possibly wrong pics *but* there is a Q & A section on the listing of that cab and the Argos staff member states that it has SF2, Final Fight, Strider and G'NG. They could always be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if different territories do have different cabinets. There is a Space Invaders one listed after all when there has been no mention of it for the US.
Dang. I didn't think much outside gift cards had restrictions.
Man, that was my plan too...
It's not a raspberry pi. I'm sure it won't be all that difficult for someone to come up with adapter to hook it up to the monitor/controls, though. So if it's just a Pi inside, hacks will be a absolute doddle right?
The only thing I'm worried about is the interface between the joystick and pi....because for example getting an Xbox controller to work on my pi isn't easy, and infact does not work correctly (select doesn't work etc)

In terms of modding the screen you have around 10 inches of space behind the front plastic screen panel. You'll likely be able to fit some real CRT monitors in the unit but it would be a tight fit.
That is not a Pi or a variant. It looks like an in-house developed board.
After looking at the control panel, I can tell that these are all parts manufactured for this device. I've never seen those sticks or buttons before, but they're clearly Japanese style inspired. No cherry switches here.
Those joysticks are some strange hybrid between Japanese looking hardware and wood-mounted American parts. If you want a sanwa joystick to sit at the correct height in this control panel, you would need to remove material from the panel thickness where the joystick plate would mount.I dunno, looking at the video I think it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to replace those buttons with proper screw-on buttons. The joysticks look like some generic version of a Crown or Seimitsu stick.

You could, but it'll operate and feel totally different. You might not even engage the micro switches before hitting the wood.

Thanks. Least we somewhat know what to expect for modding sticks and buttons now.
