As many have said, this is pointless if we aren't getting enhancements. I honestly just want enhancements for 3, the rest I could care less about. Yes, even DS1.

I get this trilogy collection I just dont get why only 6 months after DS Remaster launch!?
Waiting next year IMO would make more sense.

I don't mind paying a little more for portable versions of great games on a cart, but this does flag up the Switch edition as poor value. Reminds me of Mass Effect 3 on WiiU arriving just as the trilogy launched elsewhere- as a 30+ hour RPG without much that's similar on the system it's not necessarily a bad pick if you want something to play on the train, but when others are getting 3 games at the same time it feels a bit harsh.

The others have been available on the systems separately for years now.

And this is going to be twice the price as DS1 on Switch.

It's not the Mass Effect situation once you know the details, it's just very poor optics.

Wow. Isn't that the same day dark souls remastered comes out on switch?

That's literally the same move as releasing mass effect trilogy when mass effect 3 was releasing on Wii U. Cold blooded lol.

Welp, I just Platinumed all Dark Souls games on PS4. I'm OK with not getting this collection, but I guess it could be useful for some people... who have none of the games.

Free tip for Bandai Namco: remove Dark Souls II and rename the collection as "A Duology of the two actually good Dark Souls games". Everybody wins.

I've decided to cancel my DS 1 Switch version now, as inevitably we'll get the DS Trilogy on switch someday. Bamco doesn't want my money it seems and keeps screwing Nintendo game releases.

Great news! I have held off dark souls 3 until it got an X patch. This should have the patch that was applied to ps4!!
I KNEW IT WAS WORTH WAITING

Well there goes any hope of the switch darksouls from getting okay sales.

Is namco bandai turning into the next EA or something?

this seems perfect for swohwait.

sold me on all dlc included. haven't played the remaster yet and don't own the dlc for 3. they love milking the series so we'll probably get another remaster next gen.

Huh, I guess BN just wants to sabotage its own sales of DSR on Switch.
I was going to buy DSR on Switch but yeah I'll probably just hold off and wait for sale, I have enough backlog as it is.

Couldn't the same thing be said for the Mass Effect trilogy, though? 3 was a year old at that point and the first two were very cheap on the used market.

As for the value thing, for twice the price you're getting more than 3 times the content; and you're also getting much newer games in 2 and 3 as well. It's not exactly the same but the value proposition is much, much better for the trilogy than it is for 1 on the Switch and I think people will take notice of that.

Well, I already own Dark Souls 1-3 on PC.
This coming to PS4 and XBO is doing nothing for me.
But if this is ever gonna come out for Switch then whoo boy, I'm gonna suck it up real good!

$40 vs $80? Not exactly Mass Effected.

Well, it runs at 30 fps, when the versions on the consoles that run DS3 at sub-30 fps are solid 60 fps.
DSR is a different studio though (Virtuos on Switch, QLOC on X86) and From doesn't have the best rep with optimization. Even if it's 30fps on Switch DSR still runs a whole lot better than the original and at higher res.

It'd take some concessions and a lot of work probably but I don't think DS3 is impossible on Switch. It should run better on PS4/XB1 than it does really.

That's the part I don't get. What was the urgency ? If I bought the recent Dark Souls Remaster on PS4/Xbone I'm also pissed because I would have waited for the trilogy instead ( better value ).

But the worst part is announcing this before the Switch version is even out. I'm scratching my head hard...

This bundle of games isn't portable though so it's automatically a lesser value.

Companies have been doing these trilogy bundles for years. Why does it matter if it's releasing the same day. If you want portable souls what does this bundle have to do with your purchase. Only people who should have any gripes are those who bought DS1 remaster and those who have had to wait for the switch version.

the namco guy deserves a raise. Half of the first page is either 'why bother?' and the second one is 'gimme dat'.

I myself am intrugued and may buy this willingly if it doesnt cos hundreds

True story i've yet to buy a Namco game on Switch: they released nothing but ports so far and sometimes ruined by ridiculous prices (Little Nightmares) or sabotages like this.

Are they EA now?

I don't have the SOTFS or DS3 DLC or DSRemastered. So ill grab this and the steelbook looks real nice too. But for $80? Ill wait a bit into next year on my B-day in May. Holiday 2018 and Early 2019 is hella packed for me and my wallet.

Wasn't the trilogy release actually cheaper than ME3 on Wii U?

But yeah I mean, it's certainly similar, it's just not quite the same. Especially because this is Dark Souls 1, and Dark Souls isn't a heavily story-based series where playing 3 before 1 or 2 would confuse the hell out of people.

It's still an extremely odd decision to launch them on the same day but I don't think it's as blatantly offensive as the Mass Effect situation was.

It's not quite a Mass Effect Wii U situation, since both ME3 Wii U and the ME Trilogy released at the same price. The Souls Trilogy is double the price of Dark Souls Switch.

Still, it's dangerously close to being an almost identical situation, which is hilarious.

It seems very similar considering that ME1/2 were years old at that point and ME3 a year or so, the difference in content vs price was similarly huge too.

Still, it's not like I haven't got other RPGs to play instead, I'll just pick up Dark Souls when it hits a price I'm happier with, no big deal.

I agree with you that the two SKUs launching together magnifies any 'issue'.

Mass Effect Trilogy was cheaper than Mass Effect 3 on Wii U. Dark Souls Trilogy is $80 and contains DSR, which is $39.99, and DS2/3, two games that can be purchased used for less than $20, have been offered on PS+ and Xbox Gold services for free, and are routinely on sale. The bundle is good if you never played the trilogy, but the core Dark Souls base likely has purchased DS2/3 on these platforms by now.

Dark Souls Remastered for Switch is $39.99.

Had the DS Trilogy seen release for $30 then it would be damaging to Switch. It will have minimal impact on those interested solely in DSR.

The big issue here is the timing. It looks bad releasing side by side.

Glad I skipped the remaster.

I wish they would have done remakes of 1 and 2 so that all three games look equally good, but that's unrealistic.

Welp, this actually makes my october purchase decision on Switch a lot easier.

If you are going to sabotage your own sales them why promote it in the first place? Fuck. You. Bamco.

Yeah. There are some similarities, but the situation is not nearly as bad as what happened with Mass Effect.

Also, I think putting the price in the thread's title could be a good idea, to give a better picture of the situation, as well as putting the Press Release in the OP, if possible.
