This is dope, but why wouldn't Microsoft do it themselves? Isn't Quantum Break on Steam?

I just bought an Xbox One too, well this is still good.

Folks outside the Xbox ecosystem or simply only game on PC now get to experience these games.

So I'm a bit confused. Why doesn't MS publish these themselves? Is it because they're older and don't want to, or do they not publish on Steam? ReCore is relatively new, I would think MS would want to publish that themselves rather than share the profits.

They are THQ are just doing the physical versions.

"THQ Nordic announced that five great games of Microsoft Studios' portfolio will soon be available via Steam and THQ Nordic proudly presents the physical editions for these games."

It sounds like MS are pushing these games on Steam, they just let THQ Nordic do the retail version like Halo Wars 2.

Wow. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyone remember when Old THQ published some Microsoft games for Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS?

The thread title made me think of stuff such as the Madness franchise (Midtown, Motocross and Monster Truck) and Crimson Skies. Maybe Pandora's Box too, which I never got to play besides the demo. I'd love to have these titles in digital form.

I feel like the thread title isnt correct. The article doesnt say THQ Nordic are going to publish them on Steam, it says they're going to be released on Steam and that THQ Nordic will distribute some physical editions, which is rather different?

They did this with Ori and Quantum Break too, and on neither of the titles are they listed as the publisher on Steam, MS will publish and THQ will make some nice stuff for people who like discs.

QB:

Amazon (THQ Nordic distributor) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quantum-Br...d=1534809116&sr=1-2&keywords=quantum+break+pc
Steam (MS Publisher) https://store.steampowered.com/app/474960/Quantum_Break/

Nope, still Microsoft. But they published physical editions of Quantum Break, Halo Wars 2 and Ori and the Blind Forest.
Ah. But they at least already had that publishing relationship, so this is just extending it to digital as well. (And I'm not sure if the Steam version would have even happened but for Nordic picking up EU publishing rights for PC.)

But Microsoft is clearly capable of publishing physical titles themselves, so why would they need a third party to publish physical editions for a platform that they own an operate?

Because MS dont do that for their most recent titles. Ori, QB and HW2 all went to retail through THQ Nordic, who didnt publish those titles on anything. Maybe MS dont have the capacity to print PC stuff when they would do it so infrequently? Or dont want to have the costs associated with it idk.

It makes even less sense for THQ to actually publish the games on Steam

I would be in for ReCore. I played a bit when I had game pass for a month and thought it was pretty fun. Also, I would buy Sunset Overdrive the second it went up on Steam.

Nothing shocking here. MS has published non internally developed titles to steam ever since every game was being prepared for the Play Anywhere initiative.

Other times the developer themselves will publish their game to steam.

No first party developed big effort has appeared on any other platform other than the Windows Store thus far for PC that I'm aware of.

Oh i'm aware of this classification. However, there was this Insomniac AMA on here or Reddit and a developer said something about a pc port being a tough job. Can't perfectly paraphrase him right now; Things could've changed in the meantime and for the sake of more people able to enjoy this game i hope that's the case.

Ah, right. I believe you're thinking of the AMA done here on Era and this response to the question of whether there'd be an update for the X1X:

Question #12 – Member: Shpeshal Ed

"Can we pretty, pretty please get an Xbox One X enhancement patch for Sunset Overdrive? A game that gorgeous deserves to be played in the best possible way!"

James Stevenson, Community Director: Realistically it's not in the cards at this point. Our engine code is several years developed from Sunset Overdrive, and to re-open that project and try to piece it in there, on a new piece of hardware, plus all of the testing and resources going into it, isn't something we're able to do in house. Right now everyone here is focused on Marvel's Spider-Man.

While one could say, "If Insomniac doesn't have the resources to do an X1X patch, then it's definitely not in a position to port Sunset Overdrive to the PC", the fact the PC port was rated the following month indicates it's quite far along, plus it's possible the project was outsourced.

Guess that means Sunset Overdrive won't be on Steam anytime very soon, even if that PC version is actually coming.

If they're doing a late port for the PC on SO, I wouldn't be shocked to see it land on Steam even if it is timed exclusive to W10 store.

The audience on the PC store is probably not enough to justify the cost of the port. I could see it being used as advertising to try and get more people to use their store and later dumped on steam to pick up some extra revenue from it.

What? I'm confused. Some of those games already had physical releases...I would rather they did physical releases for games like Cuphead or an actual physical release of KI, not that gimped disc they put out.

Man, I wish PlayStation was doing something equally amazing. I swear I don't know why I have to be stuck on a console when I have the means to play on a PC with every setting pushed to the max.

Super Lucky's Tale is a good N64/PS1 style platformer, and fans of those games should give it a chance. I have an Xbox One X with GamePass, and I'm being totally serious when I say I didn't care for Halo 5 or Gears 4 at all, but enjoyed Super Lucky's Tale a lot and played it to completion.

Not gonna lie if they put Viva (1+2 and even this) on Steam or even the windows store i would buy 20 copies each.
You and me both. Every fucking year I hope they release an updated, Windows 10 compatible .exe of just Viva Pinata but no. And now it can't authenticate due to servers being offline. Fucking absolute shame.
