This. The pre-release hype for the game makes it practically untouchable and as a Sony exclusive, you know for damn sure it's not going to be an Aliens: Colonial Marines style bomb where all the pre-release footage wasn't actually in the game.Spider-Man is the least likely to flop by far. I can't envision it, that game is going to blow out.

Predicting an easy 90+ Metacritic, it'll actually be quite a surprise if it doesn't hit 90.
Fallout 76.
I'm guessing that it'll be a game that critics and vocal fans will disagree about. It'll actually be quite divisive in the consumer pool, but there will be an adamant group that defends the game very vocally, and the surprise will really arise from the GamerGate-style/"critics are corrupt/wrong/not gamers" rhetoric that emerges from the situation and not actually over discussion about the qualities and deficiencies in the game.
I don't think anyone can reasonably expect Fallout 76 to get better reviews at launch than TESO did, so it won't be a surprise disappointment when it gets mediocre scores at all. Its exactly the type of game that 'evolving' reviews were made for. It won't even be the 'real' FO76 for 6 months to a year.
With the trend of each Xenoblade being worse than the one before it...
Going from 1 to X is like going from a 9 score to an 8, then going from X to 2 is going from 8 to 6.5. That poster is not necessarily wrong.
Doesn't sound like an objective or even universally shared opinion, at least from what I saw around the net. If anything I see that different people will have their own fave, depending by what they prioritize.
Metascores:
Xenoblade - 92
Xenoblade X - 84
Xenoblade 2 - 83
Critical consensus.
Nah. The guy putting "going from X to 2" is like 8 to 6.5 is really wrong when the difference between one and other is one point
What? No way RDR 2 scores less than a 95 at the minimumI'm gonna say RDR2, I think there a chance that it's only gonna be a solid 8. Tbh that's all I thought of the first one so maybe I'm not a good judge.
I don't think critics have ever shown to care about that if there are enough shiny things in a game to distract them, and Spiderman seems like is full of shiny things
I think Fallout is much more accessible than Spider-Man. Way less investment needed in the franchise to get something out of it. This is the biggest deterrent. Does some dude with a Saturday morning cartoon and an appearance in some Avengers movies warrant an own game? The comics aren't widely available. Spider-Man is too marginal.
Pokemon. It's horrifically casualized and I think this will be bad for veterans, and potentially newcomers as well.
Totally. There's such an insanely low barrier to entry to the games as it is, you don't need a segue from Go to Let's Go to core.
It would be more of a surprise if LGPE got glowing reviews across the board. I'm expecting it to be mixed with a slant toward negativity. User reviews/impressions will be harsher (as they usually are).
It's too obvious of a "baby's first Pokemon RPG" when really RBY were perfect for even kids to get into as their first RPG. I first played the games when they came out when I was like 9 IIRC and had no trouble at all really getting into the mechanics. They're robbing people of so much by cutting out wild battles and just making them catching mini-games. Plus random encounters are kind of an RPG tradition if I'm honest. Some might prefer it being gone but I don't know.
What I mean is that there will be more negative reviews coming from outlets than positive, but it won't overtake the entire narrative of the game's reviews. This is a conservative prediction admittedly, but the draw of Kanto has always been a huge draw among lapsed fans, and I have trouble imagining a GF-produced Pokemon getting outright trashed everywhere.Does a slant toward negativity mean criticism? That's a shortcoming of the game, not a lack of optimism of the reviewer.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country - With the trend of each Xenoblade being worse than the one before it, could this spinoff campaign (with a standalone release) disappoint critics more than Xenoblade 2, or will the tilde in its overlong title win critics over
I'd be surprised at this point if spiderman underwhelmed. Game looks great and previews for it have been quite good.
I don't think pokemon or 76 would "surprise" anyone at this point if they turn out mediocre.
Nah, xenoblade 2 is the better of the three in the series, and I'm hopeful that continues onto the expansion.
May I suggest something? Stop giving a crap about review aggregates and treating them as if they are a measure of a games quality. Thank you.Glad you like it, but there are big drop offs in review aggregates between releases.

You could actually read the review, and form your own judgement about the things the reviewer has praised or condemned.

But people are already aware of the lack of other pokemon and content, etc. If you kind of expect it to not be so great then that's not exactly a surprise fail. And by the looks of it, many people aren't too happy about the game already.Pokemon Lets Go probably
I think reviewers will bash the lack of other gen pokemon and the lack of extra content wich there is no excuse for anymore on a console they (gamefreak) cant say hardware limitations this time again.
It also looks like a one on one remake without a scale remake cuz kanto is ages old and needs improved scale.
