One detail I find super interesting:

These themes come together most powerfully in the way Daniel will develop depending on the lessons you teach him and the role model you decide to be.

I REALLY hope they nail this conflict between the lessons you teach and how well your actions reflect that. Life is Strange was better at difficult choices than other games in this genre, so I'm sure they'll find great ways of pushing us to contradict ourselves.

Back in the first season of The Walking Dead, I believe in Episode 2, we have the choice to loot a car that probably still had people using it, due to the state it was in. I chose not to, because I wanted to give Clem a good example, even if we suffered some consequecnes for that. Unfortunately, there were none, to put it mildly, but I still loved that game, and that moment was very special to me.

I'm not sure about the whole "on the run" premise. One of the things I (and many people) loved about the first one was the small town setting. You really felt like you were getting to know the town of Arcadia Bay and the people in it over time. If the two protagonists are constantly moving to new places, it'll be difficult to establish a consistent set of supporting characters.

Still very much looking forward to it, and I'm confident Dontnod will make it work.
I agree, but I find it exciting that they're leaving their comfort zone so much. Especially after Captain Spirit made me believe they were doubling down on it, with larger areas with many more interactive elements. It made me think they would really go deep into developing familiar places.

And, as they said, it's the highest production values in the series, so it's the kind of story they couldn't tell while keeping the presentation as good as they wanted to before they made a name for themselves.

If it doesn't work that well, we can always go back to a small town with Season 3.

If Dontnod wants to make a Life is Strange universe with diverse characters and diverse situations, I'll support them. I enjoyed first game and will probably enjoy the second one.
This is how I feel. I am a little lukewarm on this reveal, but I think most of us were with the first LiS as well, it seemed to really take most of us by surprise, and was a game that improved with each episode to become something really special. I'll reserve my judgement on this until I finish it.

Told to not go back in to the previous thread's derailment, first 2 posts derails it, awesome.

I thought Captain Spirit looked good graphically, LiS2 looks even better. Those character models are fantastic and those environments are super detailed. Looking forward to it. I do hope there are recurring characters that take some of the story off of the 2 main characters, but it's not a deal breaker.
Yeah I honestly don't know why they're so hellbent on making this into a totally useless argument thread.

Can't wait for this, it's been awhile since I've been waiting for a game to tackle brotherhood and the bond one can share with its brother.

I trust DONTNOD to deliver again.

The first 2 LiS were garbage and so boring, this looks like the same shit, probably this one wi have more likable characters than Max and Mrs. "Fuck everything" Chloe.

Waiting for a huge price cut or sale.

Why do you even want to buy it if you found the previous games to be garbage?

Personal criticisms:
  • Needs more females. Max was a fantastic entry to the barely populated Awesome Heroines hall of fame, to not continue on that legacy from DONTNOD is a little disheartening.

  • The characters' names: Sean and Daniel seem... incredibly generic and uniconic? I don't know but Max Caulfield (was it the gender neutral name?) and Chloe Price have such unique rings to them despite not sounding entirely innovative and try-hard either.

  • The theme and setting: We BEEN knew about this older person/youngster dynamic; we did it in TWD S1 and we're doing it again in TWD S4. And now in LiS2. Doesn't mean that it's a bad dynamic per se, but it's been done over and over again. DONTNOD's take on it better be revolutionary because this sequel needs to top what the original did, and by choosing that story route, the odds are already not in its favor.

Personal hypes:
  • I like the focus on minority and social issues; yes, video games are supposed to be an escape, but if done beautifully enjoyable art can be fused with such issues that can create an incredible much-needed statement. Instead of not wanting companies and game studios to tackle social problems in fear of our joy of videogames diminishing, we should encourage them to tackle social problems correctly. It remains to be seen if DONTNOD will succeed but I have high hopes.

  • The new power is intriguing! I'm happy they're still going with the supernatural elements. Before the Storm was a little boring due to how mundane everything was; I still wish there was more emphasis on a Rachel w/powers plot.

Anyone else not give a shit who the main characters are as long as the game and story are good? That's where I'm at.

Hopefully the music is as good as LiS1 also.

The trailer itself was decent. I'm intrigued somewhat. It could have been better, but hopefully it's just because they want to tell the story without spoiling stuff.
Yep. I hated the premise of teenage girls and their relationship, but then I heard the game was really good, so I immediately gave it a try no matter my skepticism. Loved it.

I'm not saying anything about the brothers, I'm excited for LiS2 because I love stories about brothers myself. I'm just saying Max is awesome lol, don't diss my girl like that.
What I'm saying is that at the initial reveal, Max was as generic as these guys. She's the very definition of a plain girl.

Of course, she turned out to be a great and well-written character, but we only know that after playing the game.

Aren't you dating a mod or something? Is that why you're not being banned immediately?

Much respect to Dontnod for continuing to create progressive narratives in games. Chloe was too good to recreate though.
Dude, I'm coming off a 1 month ban, lmao
Do you need to be so hostile?

Especially when you know that's not what they meant? It's also kind of hard to frame them as being against representation when there speaking positively about a game that has minority representation.
Lol, if you think "I don't care about gender/race/nationality I just want good narratives!!1!1!1" isn't a top 3 GG talking point I don't know what to tell you.

Because MAYBE, since this is a story driven title, MAYBE, the story and the character might be better than the first LiS, MAYBE.

Random aside: I wish games that had siblings had different gendered siblings. It seems like it's always sisters or brothers, and rarely a brother and sister.

Wasn't a huge fan of the trailer itself -- was a bit too The Walking Dead for my tastes -- but Dontnod have earned the benefit of the doubt from me personally, considering how much I've enjoyed all their other games (and loved the original Life Is Strange of course).

Glad to hear that Jonathan Morali will be returning for the soundtrack. Now they just need to get him and Olivier Deriviere in a room together at some point.

I actually think the fact that DONTNOD chose male protags could be a really good thing for diversity. If we get a heartfelt story that approaches males as feeling, caring beings instead of mindless war machines, I definitely think that would be a bit of a rarity in this medium.

Cool premise, I hope they find a cool hook to turn adventure game tropes on their head like Max's time powers did. And, uh, I hope they plan their endings a bit more thoroughly ahead of time.

About how Life is Strange was perceived after the first trailer, I wouldn't even know, because I really don't remember people caring about it at all. I remember the reason why I bought it was because someone mentioned Twin Peaks similarities, it was cheap on Steam, so I said "fuck it" and got the full season when the first episode came out.

In fact, this is the second trailer I've watched for this series, with the first being the Captain Spirit one, and I didn't like that one either. Maybe this team just isn't great at cutting trailers?

Thanks! Opinions are pretty good, I agree.

Yeah, cause if someone said they were disappointed with female protagonist you would also think opinions are good, right?

ANYONE ELSE THINK REPRESENTATION IS BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIT

Well it seems you think they are. Apparently the only representations allowed are to have a female protagonist, having mixed race kids is not "representation".

I remember it. Literally zero hype for it. I remember seeing a gameplay video on Youtube from Gamescom where people laughed at the writing and predicted it as the last Dontnod game. Kinda funny in retrospect, I guess.

I usually accept any developer using the protagonists they want regardless of representation, even though it's needed in this industry. That's why I don't mind Rockstar having a white male as protagonist in RDR 2, because that's the story they want to tell, and Arthur will be a compelling character. Same with the Diaz brothers here. You guys agree?

Oh well. I was always going to play LiS 2 no matter what but I can't help but feel disappointed.

Maybe it was unfair to expect Dontnod to deliver new amazing female MCs, but it sure was what I hoped for.

Will wait for reviews to see if it's a day one purchase however, since I'm really not in a hurry anymore after this teaser.
