Dear Life is Strange fans,

You've waited so long for it, and it's finally here… today we reveal everything you need to know about Life is Strange 2. The first of 5 episodes will release September 27, 2018 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam)!

First things first: the trailer!

(see above yo)

The main characters of Life is Strange 2 are brothers Sean (16) and Daniel Diaz (9), two brothers living a fairly normal life in Seattle, Washington state. Following a tragic event, their lives are forever changed. Now on the run from the police and threatened with both separation and incarceration, Sean decides to take his younger brother and seek a better life in their family's home town of Puerto Lobos, Mexico.

Life on the road is tough and dangerous. The brothers will face all manner of challenges as they bravely undertake a journey that will test the bonds of brotherhood. Playing as Sean, you will need to make the kind of tough choices you can expect from a Life is Strange game, and you will need to live with the consequences of your actions. The game will this time focus on brotherhood alongside the need to guide and educate your younger brother whilst simultaneously coming of age yourself. As with previous games in the series, Life is Strange 2 will tackle a host of issues that all of us can identify with and that will cause moral dilemmas and require much soul searching. These themes come together most powerfully in the way Daniel will develop depending on the lessons you teach him and the role model you decide to be.

We are also really excited to confirm that Life is Strange 2 will feature a new power. What it is and how it relates to the brothers is something you will discover in due course!

As Sean and Daniel travel towards Mexico, they will meet an entirely new cast of characters and pass through numerous new settings. Life is Strange 2 will also include multiple features that will be unveiled over the course of the next week, as we strive to deliver the most ambitious Life is Strange entry with the highest production values in the game series to date. Jonathan Morali, the French composer who worked with the team on the first game, is also composing a new original soundtrack for Life is Strange 2 which will be supported by a brand new licensed soundtrack.

If all that information wasn't enough, you can also look forward to gameplay from Life is Strange 2 being released in the coming days. Make sure to subscribe to us on Youtube to be notified as soon the gameplay is released! If you are attending Gamescom 2018, do drop by the Square Enix booth (Hall 9, Booth B31) to play the opening scene yourself.

If you previously played The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, some of the finer details about the story and the brothers may now start falling into place. If you haven't yet played The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, you can download it entirely for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam).

Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2 will release September 27, 2018 and you can pre-order it here.

This game represents as much of a journey to us as it does to our heroes Sean and Daniel, and we can't wait to embark on it with you. Let's get started!

Cool concept, loved Captain Spirit, will definitely play this. DONTNOD continues to prove themselves as amazing developers, Vampyr will most likely end up being my GOTY, too.

I do hope they go back to exploring female protagonists in the near future, though. Maybe Vampyr 2? If it's even getting a TV Show, they must be pleased with the performance. :P

Nice to see some non-white people as main characters. I am interested even though I really only enjoyed the first two episodes of original LiS.

I'll at least try the first episode to give it a fair shot. Even though it is different it might be good in it's own way

I'm not sure about the whole "on the run" premise. One of the things I (and many people) loved about the first one was the small town setting. You really felt like you were getting to know the town of Arcadia Bay and the people in it over time. If the two protagonists are constantly moving to new places, it'll be difficult to establish a consistent set of supporting characters.

Still very much looking forward to it, and I'm confident Dontnod will make it work.

I like the fact that the main characters aren't white, and love the setup. Dontnod has he benefit of the doubt from me so we'll see. I'm not playing these till all the episodes are out either way.

I'm glad they are doing something different from LiS 1. That story is done and they shouldn't go back to it. I can understand being disappointed by having male protagonists but the developers should be able to make the choices that suit their story the best.

Missed opportunity for a rewind GIF in the OP.

Not a lot to go on in the trailer but the premise seems okay

I'm worried that making the story a roadtrip from Seattle to Mexico will hamper the ability to connect with the characters beyond the core duo, which was a key factor of why I really liked the first game, seeing the characters grow and change or reveal more depth over the course of the game. I hate episodic story releases though, so I won't play it until it's fully released

I loved the first and Before the Storm. I have faith in DontNod, especially after Captain Spirit. Can't wait.

Tbf, the new protagonists seem boring, but so was Max. And Life is Strange is all about the story and character development. We shouldn't judge them at this point.

Also, the "highest production value' part sounds intriguing. Would love to see and hear more.

I think it's really cool they're latino brothers and are focused on telling a story about brotherly love. There needs to be more stories like this.

With a little less sass than how I finished in the last topic, I'll just re-add I think featuring Mexico during the current political climate (and in general) is something that Dontnod might be able to pull off to acclaim.

Most times Mexico comes up in games it's something to do with a drug cartel.

And no I'm not saying there isn't problems in Mexico, just if we're talking representation in games, it's a change of pace maybe to focus on some positives/culture for once?

If Dontnod wants to make a Life is Strange universe with diverse characters and diverse situations, I'll support them. I enjoyed the first game and will probably enjoy the second one.

Anyone else not give a shit who the main characters are as long as the game and story are good? That's where I'm at.

Hopefully the music is as good as LiS1 also.

The trailer itself was decent. I'm intrigued somewhat. It could have been better, but hopefully it's just because they want to tell the story without spoiling stuff.

Reposting my thoughts:

What I think a LiS game is about and what I love about it is really different than what some of the fervent fanbase gets out of the game.

This game has such an uphill climb for me. LiS is one of my favorite games, I love the writing and characters, the setting, but I really want something new and to be wowed again. Lightning doesn't strike twice, and seeing this in the Pacific North West again, with the reddit leak someone posted a while ago referencing certain characters and locations, I just wanted a clean break (which, again, reading through the tread puts me as an outlier of the fanbase). And, with at least this trailer being focused as on the road with only these two characters, I'm worried we won't have a large and detailed supporting cast; seriously, the supporting cast made LiS for me. I can't think of any other game other than Mass Effect where I can name so many characters and give you their story/background.

I'm rooting for the game, and even if I don't get out of it what I got from LiS, which is probably impractical, I'm looking forward to it all. That said, I can't decided if I'm going to wait until it's all done and play, or play the episodes as they release this time.

I'll say, I liked the music in the trailer, and visually it's a step up from LiS. (If there's one thing I wouldn't mind coming back for this game is the musical themes. They were so great.)

I'm worried about:
Large and detailed supporting cast maybe not being there.
Taking place again in the Pacific North West.
Characters from LiS returning, even in cameo roles.
Possibly visiting Arcadia Bay.

Things I'm excited about:
New cast.
The game looking much better than LiS.
The possibility of this game being a road trip to Mexico, so maybe more locations than just one town.
The composers returning.

Things I wanted and did not get:
An entirely new locale (Appalachia or Midland Texas were my desires)

Absolutely. I think this is a great opportunity to tell a story not just about latino people, but hopefully it'll be a rare glimpse into a story where men have genuine feelings of love colored with real emotion.

Hopefully one of them is gay. That was my biggest wish off a sequel, gay male main character, since they were pretty comfortable with all the lesbians in the first.

Disappointed in male protagonists.

Fucking disappointed.

Lol, what? Why? The first Life is Strange gave us almost nothing but great female characters with like no likeable dudes. It's also not as if there won't be girl characters at all lol.

It's nice to see Mexican representation in a videogame. I just really hope that if they leads reach Mexico, it ain't shown as a deadbet town with cactus. Our cities are more than that.

I can't wait to discover a new story and meet new people. Looks great so far.
But I hope we also get to meet Captain Spirit again. And maybe we pass by Arcadia Bay, it's on the way to Mexico you know ;-)

Was LiS1 also 40 bucks back then? Can we expect a similar length?

Told to not go back in to the previous thread's derailment, first 2 posts derails it, awesome.

I thought Captain Spirit looked good graphically, LiS2 looks even better. Those character models are fantastic and those environments are super detailed. Looking forward to it. I do hope there are recurring characters that take some of the story off of the 2 main characters, but it's not a deal breaker.
