This looks amazing

I loved ANNO 1404 but didn't like the future setting of 2020 so much, which was a big part of why I liked 1404. This looks later, but definitely more in the vein of 1404 and the graphics look sweet so I'm hyped.

I've skipped so many of these because horrendous DRM. Hopefully this one will "just" have uPlay and Denuvo, so might check it out.

Hope trailer music isn't indications of actual soundtrack.
It would be a massive downgrade from 1404.

Thanks guys, super excited to finally get to announce the date ❤️

No, Th music is not for the soundtrack. The in-game music is full orchestral by the same composer as our last few games.

Please be good. Playing 1404 when I want to hop back into some peaceful economy management is getting a bit old after so many years.

If only we could have an Anno game that would let go of the forced gridbased building. The preset AI towns/trade hubs have it, but it doesn't look like the player has the ability. I have been playing Anno games since 1503 and this has always been my biggest wish.

Can't wait for this, combining the best of 1404/2070/2205 is great.

Been playing through 1701 + 2205 and 1404 + 2070 (again) recently. 2070 definitely introduced solid new mechanics and improvements, I honestly liked the future aesthetic and differences between Eco/Tycoon/Tech factions. Honestly, 2205 felt a bit like misstep in terms of gameplay fundamentals, map design, and the campaign (especially narrative). Would be happy to see the module mechanic and move building feature (for lower difficulties) carry over to 1800.

Hope someone's around to post and maintain a thread on the Anno Union updates. The audio, new mechanics like culture + attractions, electricity etc. look fantastic.

New gameplay in German:

UI-wise: love the return of building menu selections arranged by production chain akin to 2070, and very happy to see the viewed population/residential tier return to a fixed position on the right-hand side.

Possible for a developer walkthrough after GC ends or an AnnoCast this month?

Sooner than I expected (was thinking summer/ September 2019) though is in Q1...

That said I think I'll get this as well.

I know awards at trade shows are completely stupid but Anno winning Best PC Game at Gamescom has made me instantly interested in seeing how this pans out. Might jump in.

Yay!

A good chance this'll be the only game I'll buy that month even given the competition. Looking forward to it!

We will definitely do a post-gc stream in September to walk the people at home through the new content.

Fun fact, I am writing this post with the award right next to me :p

Any chance of RTX support? The game already looks incredible, but it can look even better :)

No plans for that, sorry.

Com_Raven How will the game compare in terms of complexity to other Anno games?
For example in the very first you didn't need villages to unlock new machinery and farms on new island with different biomes (because they haven't been different ones), while in 1404 that was the case. And are there any recommended videos to show totally new mechanics in this game? Thanks

Meh, unless they return to what made the series unique (1602/1503 - Colony builder where you start from nothing and have money being acquired from the selling of goods rather than taxes) rather han a generic city builder, i'm still not interested.

Apart from the loss of 2D charm at most, it's pretty hard to see how the series has become a 'generic city builder' given the fundamentals have always been production chains and using trade to boost incomes while satisfying increasing population requirements. Nothing wrong with more city-building options, and there are difficulties + scenarios in 1404/2070 dedicated to building cities through trade (without taxes).

This is a series I never played that much actually. Well, I did play Anno 2070 for some hours, but did not stick with it. Will give this a shot though.

I have no idea what kind of game this is (some kind of empire management sim maybe?) but it looks very awesome and I want to try it.

It's a city-building game with strong business simulation elements. Build a colony, manage resources, make people happy, sell goods, expand and advance. It has small combat and diplomacy parts as well but that's not the focus I would say.

Oh sweet, I've been wanting a good one of those. I'm definitely gonna check it out.

As a German, I'm always surprised at how many people still never heard of Anno (mainly YouTube comments). Guess most players of the Anno series are still German ^^
