Venerable Japanese RPG series Grandia is coming to Switch this winter. According to a statement by publisher GungHo, Grandia and Grandia II HD Remaster are both heading to Nintendo's hybrid handheld.

The Grandia series is rooted in the halcyon days of PlayStation and Saturn JRPGs when the franchise first drew a dedicated following.

Originally developed by Game Arts, creators of Thexder, Sylpheed, and Lunar, Grandia is noted for its colorful sprite work and innovative battle system. IGN reviewed the original Grandia back in 1999, scoring the RPG a 9/10.

In addition to the Switch release, Grandia HD Remaster will also be coming to Steam, joining Grandia II – which is already for sale on the service. A demo of Grandia II HD Remaster will be playable at PAX West 2018.

Oh hell yes. I was just saying in an LTTP that I wanted to replay Grandia II on PS4 but Switch is even better. I've never played the first Grandia so that makes it even better.

Hyped for this. Grandia 1 is one of the greatest games ever made.

Obvious questions:

Is Grandia 1 based off the saturn version?
Does it have dual audio?
Does it have digital museum?

Caspel ? :)

Holy shit this Gamescom is frigging crazy! All these Switch games. This is going to blow E3 away for Switch by the end of the week.

Grandia II was so rad. I hope this is based on the Dreamcast version, but I'm not holding my breath. The PS2 version had a lot of scenes redone via budget-looking CG instead of just sticking with the in-game visuals. That carried over to the PC version, AFAIK.

Dude.....crap. Now I'm going to have to replay these both again, aren't I?

I wonder if they still hold up. I remember absolutely loving the battle system and being able to knock enemies back a turn.

Ah man that's great :D Been meaning to pick G2 up on Steam for ages.

Wonder if Grandia 1 will have Japanese voices as an option

Welp, here's another day 1 purchase for me for Switch.. Diablo and now Grandia? This thing is literally sending me to heaven, and I fucking love it, lol

Grandia II had better include the anime cutscenes that were part of the Dreamcast version. Grandia II is by far one of my top all time favorite rpgs
