Sounds like checkboard rendering is going to be replaced by AI pixel prediction.

I'm a console peasant with a GTX 1060 PC so I'm not sure how it was handled on PC, maybe checkerboard rendering wasn't used in the first place. Did I misunderstand him when he was talking about resolution? Basically the AI can project pixels that the GPU hasn't finished processing, and project them accurately, basically a better upscaling?

I'm a layman. Lay into me with corrections please.

That's a good layman's understanding. With raytracing you're likely to have pixels that simply aren't rendered within a certain timeframe (it looks like static). So it's very nice to have a way to process that image into something visually coherent.

Hmm.... the 3d render kinda looks bad.... are Videocardz working with nvidia to feed misinformation?

It's a conference for a graphics card, not sure what you expected?

The actual graphic cards being shown with a price within an hour of the presentation starting would be nice. I usually have a lot of patience for these conferences, but this is getting long in the tooth.

Far too technical for gamescom as well. We haven't even seen a game demo yet.

It's going to be helping reduce the number of rays per pixel while maintaining an acceptable image quality.

They want to get 100 samples per pixel doing the work of 10.

Thank you.

It sounded like he was describing checkerboarding, or something similar to it at least. if only they could make it work universally for any game. Dunno if AI stuff can handle that either though.

I think it has to do more with getting the precision correct.

I kind of respect Jensen for trying to explain space partitioning data structures in a consumer press conference. And the impact of incoherence on parallel speedup.

Even if it's not working.

Oddly this reminds me of Meltdown and Spectre exploits. The cpu predicting what the user will need.

man, we've seen all this before in the quadro presentation. they could at least show a different demo.

I'm enjoying this so far. Though I understand this might be too technical for the average person watching.

It's so cool that all AAA games will be made with RTX in mind so they'll all be taking advantage of it! Can't wait!
