Thanks for clarifying, but I just can't fathom why an app would be under embargo.
What's the point?

It's the current state of games journalism. Imagine if MSNBC,CNN and Fox had the smoking gun on something like say the US president colluding with a foreign country, but they were under embargo to talk about it until the president's administration was ready with a statement.

All the insiders are in the know (like the Diablo 3 news apparently), and the rest of us are just gonna have to wait.

Thanks for the info guys.
It just seems weird to me but as eseqko sayes, I guess that's the current state of things, so it can't be helped.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks again sorry if my question seemed odd.

Saying "Been hearing from some people" when referring to an embargoed PR email is pretty lame lol.

Embargoes often exist to synchronise PR media output with reports and ensure material is written as comprehensive and accurately as possible, even in cases where the material in question may be subjectively simple and uninteresting. It's a means of controlling the output of material to ensure PR material from the source (such as their own trailers, press release, screenshots, etc) are of maximum quality and journalists are not rushing content publically at the potential cost of quality. Sometimes they're dumb because the context of the embargo seems irrelevant, but it is what it is and isn't really a new thing or some shift in how the media works.

I know it can sometimes sound sinister and secretive, and sometimes it is, but generally embargoes are there to keep quality of information uniform, consistent, and fair across multiple publications. Publishers sometimes have assorted rules too. Nintendo is a big one. In most cases review copies of their major releases will come with a checklist of specific content which shouldn't be discussed in the review, or points of progression after which content should not be revealed. And it's not done to hide shit game design or anything, but instead prevent publishers spoiling major gameplay and/or plot surprises.

If it is such a non event, why can't you just say what it is?
Are we under embargo for apps now?
People enjoy the power trip of being able to say "I know something you don't know." There's a few people on here who pull this sort of stunt all the time. They won't spill full info, but they'll gladly let you know that they possess that info. If their motivations were to not leak details they wouldn't say anything at all.

I saw a ReviewTechUSA video talking about Marcus' Switch Pro... it made me drool so I came here so I can try and read what you guys said to debunk it.

Your 1st mistake was Marcus sellars
hey I don't really recall who Marcus is but I was just watching ReviewTechUSA so got excited but it is a very un-Nintendo move so I came here for you guys to throw ice water on me

Thanks all... sigh. still want it.... ...

in short ->
for future reference: Sellars is a known liar/troll/bandwagon-jumper/rumor-stealer who repackages rumors from others as his own, accepts and reposts rumors from literally anyone (has been tested many times by people posing as sources) and has generally no shame or clue about anything. His "leaks" or "rumors" are essentially banned here.

I wish we could ask a mod to implement a flag when posting in certain threads that asks you when detecting certain keywords if you're talking about a MS rumor and then throws the disclaimer in your face until your post is about something else.

okay now that I have calmed down, that was a cruel troll I must admit

Honestly the X2 is too weak to be a pro version of the Switch, it has the same CPU and same GPU (basically) it only clocks higher (thanks to 16nm) and has better memory. X2 consumer products are starting to hit the market, so it's not impossible to see something from this, but rather than a 720p current game getting a raw gpu power bump to maybe 960p, they would be better off offering a passively cooled Switch with it, as a Switch Mini for $199.

Reality is we know there is a custom Tegra chip (T214) related to Switch, codenamed Mariko, that was discovered via data-mining 5.0 firmware for the Switch released back in March. People assumed this was to fix the hardware exploit that was thought to be unpatchable. It was patched last month when Switch units with the T210 (the same X1 that they have always used) closed the exploit. The interesting thing to note here is that Mariko isn't X2, as they have different Tegra names, (X2 is Parker) there is also both a 4GB and 8GB RAM configuration for this chip, meaning a Mini makes perfect sense, they can always follow it up with a Pro in 2020, but hopefully this thing has 512 cuda cores, because you won't see the 2.25x performance increase required to push Switch games to 1080p on X2, it would require a ridiculous 1.73GHz GPU clock, meanwhile you could get away with a 921mhz docked GPU clock for 944GFLOPs out of a Volta/512 Cuda core Tegra, this is the correct step for Nintendo to take, even if it's another year or two away.

Lastly, I think it's important to note that the current Switch models could run docked clocks and only lose about 1/3rd of it's battery life, if they release a Mini running the docked clocks of the Switch, they can then move to make 393GFLOPs the baseline performance target available to developers who want to target all Switch hardware going forward. Not saying indies wouldn't opt for the 196GFLOPs that the Switch does now for better battery performance, it's just important to be able to raise the base performance if they want to keep Switch devices from being outdated too quickly.

Do it seems that supermetal Dave is also in on the rumor.

https://youtu.be/nmwsKDENLf0 this is not a new rumor. So are we almost 90% certain of a hardware refresh?
SMD is citing a NoA job listing that made vague mention of a SoC, partnering it up with the T214, and speculating that it means a new Switch has to be in the works. Everything said in that video sounds like two conspiracy theorists. At one point they each say "something is up at Nintendo". Well... no kiddin'. The company is always working on new hardware. The idea of a Switch Pro isn't even a radical concept -- it's an inevitability. However, that doesn't mean what they are saying has truth to it, either.

But didn't the OP say that it was ok to post his rumors along with Emiley's even if they didn't come true yet? Effectively putting him in the boat with ER.
How legit is this dude?

I don't know about raising switch performance with a Pro model. Seems negligible to me to go from 196flops portable to 393gflops (docked) in portable mode and then at best 800-900gflops docked? It's nice but idk, seems like much less than a PS4 to Pro or Xbox One to 1X improvement.

I've said many times i'd Rather Nintendo focus on reducing energy use. A $200 switch portable sku (that can still use all switch accessories, docks, etc just doesn't come with them) would be nice. Shrink the node to 12nm, increase battery life, shrink screen to 4.5 or 5 inches, have no fan inside and you're good.

Perfect world though imo Nintendo would release a foldable switch that fits in your pocket like samsung is rumored to do with galaxy next year. 6 inch screen that can fold into a 4 inch form factor for pockets and can even fold into two separate 3 inch-ish screens for split screen local play

But that's a pipe dream

Par Nvidia having a Volta based tegra available to Nintendo in less than a year it's impossible to make a switch pro with just a die strink and more ram. I could see Nintendo making a revision to the current model with a die strink to help with the heat current issues.

I feel like Nintendo at this point would be working with Nvidia on a custom chipset to make up for any issues that the switch has. Nintendo has had a history of doing custom SoCs for their system.

Whatever happened to that stronger dev kit that leaked along with the switch dev kit back before the switch was announced

It's still a mystery AFAIK. That leaker got so many things right about the base Switch that it's kinda hard to ignore that but so far it clearly hasn't materialized.

EDIT: I'm surprised this rumor isn't in the OP (or I can't find it there), I'll see if I can find a link to it
