I just wanted to say, thanks for making Papers Please. Game is a modern classic.
Edit: Sorry I made a mixture.

I cannot wait for this game!

That's a pretty sweet launch trailer.

Games shouldn't be political, though.

Games are inherently political.

Played the game for 3 hours now, the Papers Please inspiration is fairly obvious, which is not a bad thing considering there haven't really been any games lke it.

The Setting is really unique and interesting thus far, though i havent seen much of it yet as i'm still in Chapter 1 of 5.

I finally dove in on Papers Please after watching Jacksepticeye play it years later and was hooked and enthralled. Had no idea the devs were doing another title! Gonna buy it ASAP.

Picked this up last night and so far it's a very interesting thing.

The presentation is fabulous, with art style, animation, UI, music and simple grunting voices working perfectly together.

Right from the off the sad stylised tones of God Save the Queen set against a broken, dirty London skyline immediately made me sit up and take notice. From there at every turn I've continued to sigh, grimace and smile wryly as the game makes me confront both direct disgust from your Integration Officer and the more subtle and oddly cheerful xenophobia from your employers.

Whether it is the creator's intent or not, it's made me think even more about how easy it is to create and assert an underclass simply through the propagation of stereotypes. Even in it's presentation of other effected residents of the relocation blocks it made me think hard about my own filters. When I was introduced to Mylarna, her casual descriptions of [I presume] her husband Viklav as a drunk made me question if this was playing to the perceptions amongst made Brits of Eastern Europeans or if I had simply presumed that due to the slight broken English. Given my background in the game, perhaps Mylarna was native to nowhere further than Cornwall! Should I look for her husbands name on the IDs of folk I am checking at the door of the King's Head? Should I? Names move really fast. Easier to just do my job. Can I even remember his name? Would I have done if it were Dave?...

The way it presents itself pushes me to consider everything from "the grand scheme of things", state housing, the general undertone of xenophobia etc etc right through to the smaller, more banal aspects of how we, for want of a better way of putting it, obey or strike back. I found myself inwardly annoyed when I accidentally let in an underage punter but outwardly annoyed when I got a warning for not caring about expired IDs.

Which leads to the gameplay itself, which though is ultimately simple, entirely supports the premise of the game. It's pretty fast paced and has a certain challenge to it once you are checking multiple aspects of an ID. Whether it holds up throughout the game I'll see but so far it's all good stuff.

One negative point though, and this may change as I unlock later locations, in a game that is so strongly politicised and so strongly attempts to push back against the status quo STILL no-one who has a stick or uses a wheelchair ever goes to a pub or club....

It's just a small and somewhat personal moan though and shouldn't take away from the fact that what I have played so far is a great game with a thoughtful message from a very small team. Just the sort of thing I want to be spending my money on at full price at or around launch (or rather at 10% off given the generous launch week discount!).

I hope the folk at PanicBarn and No More Robots have had a good week and the launch has been a success! Have a great Sunday all I'm off to check some IDs!

I asked a dev if I could use a cheat program with the game.

They told me "No trainers".

Glad you quoted that basic_text as I missed the original comment from Brian Damage and it is just perfect!

Thanks so much for the feedback <3

No problem at all Mike Rose. Between this and Descenders I suppose I'm becoming a No More Robots fan. Both games are already in my library and I'm looking forward to seeing what Hypnospace Outlaw looks like later this year.

For anyone interested in raw gameplay, my first week as a Bouncr is below.

That's incredibly kind of you to say :) I'm planning to announce the 4th No More Robots game next week, so keep your eyes peeling for that!

This remind me another game which you play as a Club Bouncer, Out of the Box.

Very nice game which you follow some rules each day it pass to bring quality customers inside the club you are working on.
Plus it have a nice serviceable story.
However the coolest thing is each customer is unique. That means if you know a specific customer from before visually, then he/she is the same person, so you don't need to check his/her ID to see age or name again.
Great Game!!!

Haha sorry, I bloody *love* the Vita, but there's just no financial reason to do it unfortunately. We'll get it on PS4 though, so you'll be able to play it on Vita via that :)

Fair enough, you shouldn't really commit to a course of action for which there is no logical or financial justification. I'll likely pick it up on ps4 then.

Got this yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. It's got that same groove as Papers, Please - you have a system to check all the details and start bopping along to the music as you do your job. On that note, I haven't noticed if there is one but an OST would be fairly nice - I'm enjoying some of the beats.

The little jokes about the state of Britain are also really good at times - my favourite so far has been
the Axis of Evil being Ireland, France and Italy - it also being handy they have straight vertical lines! I also like the fact that the doctor wa just a traffic warden with a coat - although when I got the medical bill I was well annoyed!

Well done Mike Rose and your team - liking the game and looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. I'm also helping out the resistance - and King's Head Dave anyway I can.

Does it go to Scotland at any point? Would love to let in everyone with a 'See you, Jimmy' hat!

Nice one Mike Rose, Family Man looks interesting, I'm going to read up and then pretty inevitably add to my wishlist!

On topic for Not Tonight, I'm still loving it and wanted to just add a couple of tiny bits of, hopefully useful, feedback. The main one I'll put it in a spoiler as it is story related I guess... [edit in spoiler tag]

When you work for the day time "Jonesy" at the Tiki Head and he makes you head bouncer, the Shopr app text says it is a reward from "Bonesy". Actually playing further into Act 2, might not be a typo... damn you game, heheh!

The second one is more general... Man the red on black numbers on the cow clicker sure makes reading guest list numbers hard if you are colour blind! An option to downgrade would be useful.

Anyway, just a couple of tiny things, game is really good more generally and I'm only just into Act 2. Hope all is well with the NMR folks and have a fab weekend all.
