Yup, if you compare Witcher 3 to things like the Souls series, it's very apparent how outdated and lackluster the actual gameplay is. But people kept playing cause they found the stories enticing - so no big deal. If you're into gameplay first- and foremost, Witcher 3 probably won't be your kinda thing, but if a good story can keep you trucking along, it's definitely worth a try.

Your sensible, even-handed approach to criticism has no place on the Internet!

"Complete shit" is a bit excessive, but yeah gameplay isn't exactly good which is unfortunate since this is a pretty long game and also one that encourages multiple playthroughs to see the different story choices.

Witcher profits from the other strong parts of the game. Compared to something like Horizon combat doesn't get in the way whereas due to HZD's greater focus on combat gameplay, its flaws when playing a certain way become very annoying very fast.

That's why I don't mind W3's clunky combat that much when compared to other games. I think AC:O struck a nice balance with this - though that one's clearly lacking in other departments where its competitors are stronger in.

If you're just using quen and doing a few sword strikes, getting hit and then waiting to cast quen agajn, then you are not even attempting to use he combat system properly. If you ignore the vast majority of your combat options then don't like the combat, that's pretty much on you.

Can't disagree on the overuse of Witcher senses though

If you can ignore the vast majority of the combat options and still can make it through the game, then there is something wrong with the combat system imo.

There isn't a reward either for using all the options you have. So there is not really a reason to use them all

Give me an example of a quest that's not "talk to NPC, go to location, get item/fight/talk, end quest"
I just specifically pointed out that the issue is the over reliance on detective vision / cookie crumb trail

And if you want an example of games which do not do that, breath of the wild, octopath traveller, god of war 2018

I can't take people serious that claim a gameplay of a game is shit after playing it for 80 hours.

Go talk to brok or sindri and retrieve craft materials.
Go talk to the ghosts and kill X enemies, retrieve my shit etc...

Did you play God of War?

Every time I try to get into Witcher 3, I end up playing through Bloodborne again.

It's just not for me I guess :/

The combat is bad in TW3 but you can just set it to Easy difficulty and play it for the story, which is what you should be playing it for anyways.

So your only problem is the detective vision? Lol okay

I mean there are a lot of quests that don't use it but I guess those don't count

Yes? I literally said that in my first post...

"hold L2 to follow the piss trail"

it takes away any need for thought, you know exactly where to go because of the cookie crumb trail and when you arrive at the scene there is no investigation or critical analysis, you just hold L2 then press a button over a glowing spot while Geralt puts it all together for you

Plenty of "good" games have worse combat, it's just easier to ignore in W3 because if you put it on easy it's over much faster, and everything else is amazing.

The combat is no worse than many other highly thought of games like GTA5, Uncharted 1-3, BOTW, Skyrim, Fallout, and many others.

have you been reading my posts?

Trying to navigate it's semi open world with such an awful map is why I did almost none of the side content, GOW would have been better if it had that stupid crumb trail for it's side stuff.

yeah. i wouldn't put 80 hours into a "shit" game. no chance! 10 hours at the absolute most depending on the game of course.

reminds me of those joke steam reviews "played 2,000,000 hours: it's ok i guess". "played 3,000,000,000 hours: it sucks."

It's average but nowhere near shit. Like GTA 5 and Skyrim are just as "shit" with their gameplay. I'm honestly not a sure why Witcher 3 gets the shit gameplay complaints so often compared to other comparatively bad games.

This right here. Most sidequests in God of War were mediocre. It had some quests with solid worldbuilding and lore, but there aren't many of them.

The Witcher 3 is still miles ahead of any game when it comes to sidequests. The Bloody Baron and Skeligge ones are the best imo.

I have absolutely no idea what you are on about. The gameplay is fine once you adjust to the movement.

Here, duh.
I'll go to my grave not understanding the "Witcher 3 combat sucks" contingent. Game was awesome on ALL fronts, I thoroughly enjoyed all 120 something hours I put into it, and I count it among the greatest games I've ever played.

As the kids say these days, "y'all wack".

"The Witcher 3 combat is garbage" is a hot take from ERA/GAF. People are still mad because TW3 won the GOTY at VGA over Bloodborne and they made up this rethoric to discredit the game.
Or....maybe...perhaps, stay with me here, the combat is atrocious.

Either way, we all pretty much know TW3 won because it was a western game.

The big difference between Witcher and the games you mentioned is that Witcher has a massive open world with tons of interactable objects while in games like God of War or Octopath you have like 5 in an area.

How much fun would it be to rummage through 20 drawers to find the thing you are looking for, which you can even do if you want cause detective vision isn't mandatory aside from the tracking quests

TW3 combat is not trash, it's fine for the type of game, you dont play TW for the gameplay, at all.

Trash lmao

Your whole post LMAO.

" You don't play a game for gameplay " LOL

Oh and gameplay is subjective. It's trash gameplay to me. Not you , but that's fine . People are different .

Witcher 3 main story is pretty standard fantasy stuff anyway, some of the sidequests are great though .

Don't hate the game , but for me it's not even close to some of the later story driven games in the gen
