I started DMC3 HD a while back. I found it difficult but probably because I only played Bayonetta recently. I should actually play DMC1 first.

OP, you can do it. I believe in you.
...just remember to not lose faith in the franchise because 3 is the GOAT and 4 is great.

While DMC3 is a superlative game, I hate that Dante's characterization with the passion of 1000 MAGA hats and I hate the fact that it infiltrated later older Dante's even more.

DMC1 Dante is the best Dante.

I like DMC2 Dante the most.... granted he's not a great character, but man do I hate corny Dante.

At least you're enjoying some of the game elements for DMC2, but you'll probably forget all about it once you hit DMC3.

I'm just gonna pretend Dante is saying stuff because his silence is actually maddening. All I can remember him saying is, "You called?" from the intro.

There was a scene of him RIDING ON A FREAKING MOTORCYCLE. Did he say anything? Nope.

The worst part is him having a character trait out of nowhere of flipping a coin to determine whether he can bring himself to keep progressing the game whether he wants to help someone.

Also known as literally the only thing he does that remotely approaches having a character at all.

Aha, don't worry, they make up for the motorcycle thing in 3.

Its a testament to DMC1s raw design that a 17 year old early Ps2 gen 3D game can still be enjoyable. Remember it was always a 60fps game (for the most part) even back then.

You're a trooper I'll give you that. I can't even fathom going through that game again, hell I don't even know how younger me did it.

Playing 2 is bad enough but imagine having to platinum the game twice.

Dont ask me why i did it .
You're a braver man than most.

On-topic, I beat DMC1 a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a while and the game really really holds up. It's an amazing gem of a game. I beat DMC3 too and DMC4 on DMD, and am slowly chipping away at the former on DMD difficulty.

I'm going to say don't skip 2, or at least play a good chunk of it as it seems you're doing it. It is a bad sequel, but it does help put the rest of the franchise into perspective and there are some other dips in quality in some areas in 4 that won't seem nearly as bad if you've played every entry. You can also have some dumb fun with 2, and its interesting to see where they went wrong, and how they course corrected with 3.

Wow. I remember the coin flip from the beginning. That's all the personality he has in the entire game???? Wait. Don't spoil it. I gotta see this thru.

OP, don't listen to them and clear DMC2.

Not saying it's good, but at least you'll have 'experienced' it.

I still need to check out DMC2.

I've played the rest of the series to death over the past maybe fifteen years at this point?

I still dig DmC.

But sounds like DMC2 is going to be a relatively important step for DMC5's setting?

I understand that DMC2 isn't well liked, but I seem to have a high tolerance for mid-tier action titles. Killer is Dead was thrilling, and it seems like most people were pretty negative about it overall.

I remember playing DMC1 back when it released. It was the most awesome thing I had ever seen in videogames. I also recently replayed it and, like OP, found it still really enjoyable. Sure, other character action games have surpassed it in terms of combat design and camera, but it really is a testament to the game that it is still least above average when examined through a modern lense (and excellent in terms of atmosphere and overall aesthetic design).

Also, DMC2 is not worth it. By far the best dante-design though. A shame it was wasted on the worst game in the series.

I plat the whole collection twice. I didnt wanna miss 2 out despite hating the game. It helped that i forgot how bad 2 really got but it was worse than i remembered. I live streamed the entire second run and people seemed to enjoy it so that helped me push through.
Still, that's like... ~4-5 playthroughs for the platinum? And twice!? That's crazy to me. I couldn't be bothered finishing either of the routes when I went back to it in the collection.
But DMC1 Dante has the characterization of a doorknob.
I prefer DMC3 Dante, but there's something to be said for what he doesn't say in DMC1, if that makes any sense? He's also super fun in his interactions with Trish.

Man DMC2 was so shitty especially with possessed tanks and possessed helicopters. God what a downgrade. At least they made up for it with DMC3, the GoaT action game.

Those 0%s would have bugged the hell out of me if i had left em. I still have my copy of DMC2 that i bought used at a bargain price. I cant imagine how people must have felt buying that pos new.

I remember finding 30$ in Walmart as a kid and begging my mom for the rest to buy dmc 2 if only I had access to reviews and internet in those days.

I started playing the trilogy on PS3 two weeks ago. DMC 1 was good, Dante is a really cool character. DMC 2 was horrible, way too easy, and Dante's personality was garbage. I now understand the hate on that game. Currently playing DMC 3, and is absolutely great so far. Next on my list: DMC 4 and then DmC.

I too love DMC1. It's quieter, a but puzzlier, and the combat requires a bit more patience at times.

DMC2 is horrendous though. I tried to play it on the 360 HD collection...had to give up. Probably played like an hour or two of it. It is so bad, all the way around, from the gun-heavy combat to the writing to the level /enemy design.
