In my opinion, it was the "water ending" of silent Hill 2.

I remember feeling so bad after what had happened to James and his wife, and what suffering had caused to James. I am still not sure if what he did was justified or not, and he still suffers with his decision. Man, team silent was awesome

He was truly at despair. I remember feeling weird for days after that ending.

What about you guys ?

PS: somebody fix the tittle, it was supposed to be gut lol

people give Type-0 a lot of flak but the ending is honestly my favorite in the entire series

The ending of Soma (well, the first one) hit me pretty hard even though it was pretty obvious what was going to happen since it already happened before(I still don't know why they did that)

I would say the entirety of SH2 wrenches James more than the ending does.

Soma's ending is pretty depressing. Well, I guess it depends how you look at it...but I just imagined this poor robot thing sitting at the bottom of the ocean in the dark all alone.

Beyond SH2, definitely Rule of Rose.
Messed me up for days and I still think about it a lot.

All those kids in the orphanage you interact with throughout the game were brutally murdered and the entire game is just Jennifer working through the trauma of her memories.

Valiant Hearts was pretty rough.

Scratch that it was really rough. Got a real lump in my throat and something in my eye when I finished it. That's more than most emotional endings do for me.

I'm also a sucker for sombre piano music.

Snake Eater's ending with The Boss explaining what she did and why with that theme in the background made me tear up.

Also Mass Effect 3, more so character's story's ending more so than the game's actual ending, And End Once and For All still makes me tear up.

I found Halo Reach to be a bit unsettling with how it went down. Having to play through your own death and all.

Out of all the raunchy things Conker's Bad Fur Day included, I think the ending/final act was the one thing that probably had the most effect on my probably-too-young-to-play mind.

Talk about reframing this entire wacky Rare adventure into something tragic as fuck. In retrospect this felt like a bit of a swan song to the Rare I once knew.

Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect was my star wars/star trek.

I got 90% of the way through 3, loved about half of the game and thought half was really bad (why is Shep having bad dreams about this stupid shit kid I didn't give a fuck about). Then my best friend told me not to finish, and that the ending is trash. Then the backlash and the pathetic games press backlash to the backlash happened.

So I brought my other character from ME2 and played the first 90% again, then stopped AGAIN.

About 3 months later I decided fuck it I'm going to finish it and see for myself (I just knew the ending was bad, but I knew 0 of the details).

So I finish it, and it's so much worse than anyone prepared me for. I've NEVER felt that bad from a video game, it felt like such an insult to the time and money I spent on the series. It made me feel stupid for giving a fuck about the series. I now wish I had never played the series at all. I deleted my saves and threw ME 1-2-3 into the recylcing bin that night. I genuinely think if the game cut when Shep looked like they were going to die next to Anderson and then showed goatse/tubgirl/other vile shit the ending would have actually been better and less insulting.

On the good side Persona 4, the game ending just made me so sad even though the ending wasn't sad. A weird sense of nostalgia for something I was just then finishing.

oops my bad lol

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.

That and Explorers of Sky were probably the only 2 games that have made me tear up at the ending. I wasn't ready for that.

Life is Strange - Before the Storm

if you played the first game, you already knew how Rachel and Chloe's story ended, but with that said, ending the game with the image above literally twisted my guts. It may seem silly, but the scenario (to me) is super realistic - it's probably happened in real life more than we've ever known (or want to know)

And if you count it too, the final scenes of the game's bonus epilogue, "Farewell" was just as much as a gut punch...

Some very, very good picks here. In Water is indeed rough, OP.

Also agree with Soma and Valiant Hearts. God damn.

The ending I got for The Witcher 3. 100 hours of play and for a few seeming random dialogue choices I get the most nihilistic denouement imaginable.
