The voices sound very low quality.

They always were. It seems to be a case of SEGA losing/throwing away the masters, so all we're left with is the sound files from the original Dreamcast release. The only good voice clips we have are those recorded for the Shenmue "movie". A shame, but what can you do.

I'm debating whether to get this on PC because I watched entire playthroughs of both games fairly recently...
Was there any Switch talk at some point? I find it puzzling that it's on everything except Switch, but maybe the game's code is complex enough where making a Switch port would require a lot of time and resources.

The old lady who asked me to find the Yamamoto's house is no longer in the park on the second day.

How can I find her again?

Assuming that the 50 capsule toys is just 50 including dupes, then that's going to be a very easy platinum.

It looks like 50 different ones. I didn't get the 25 trophy until I had them all different.

One thing I miss is the VMU beeping when you learn a new move and get it right when they show you. Wish they'd have used the speaker in the PS4 pad to play the same sound.

Can you just go to town on one dispenser or does it eventually run out of toys?

Hello everybody. This is probably my last post here (we'll see when Shenmue III comes around), and I'm going to keep it brief.

I'm very excited to play Shenmue I & II, and I can't wait to jump back into these amazing classics that have meant so much to me over the years.

More importantly, I'm excited to finally see these games get the wide release I believe they deserve without being tied to failed hardware like the Dreamcast. The fact that the community has picked up new fans continuously over nearly two decades after the series was unceremoniously cut short is, to me, proof that Shenmue's fate was never tied to people not being interested, or not liking what they played, just that it was never exposed to players on a wide enough scale.

So to new players I say - congratulations. You are about to be introduced to a series that, if it clicks with you, will be ingrained in your memory and your heart, forever.

Anyone order from base.com got their copy yet? Usually get them a day or two earlier but they've not even shipped mine yet. Can't complain if it turns up Tuesday but a little bit disappointing not to get it Monday as I'm off. Might have to give base a miss for pre ordering moving forward.

I still remember reading about Shenmue in the Swedish VG magazines, this was around the time I moved to go to university and I
was really poor. No way I could afford a Dreamcast.
I am now twice as old as I was then. =/

Anyway, I always wanted to play Shenmue. While it looks aged, I am pretty sure I can see past that and enjoy the game for what it is. Can't wait!

I think there is a limit, you can only get some in certain ones, but I've got a lot from the four that are all close together. I can't be far off the 50 now and I still have more dispensers later in the game.

That definitely changes things. I still think it's an easy platinum, but since it's 50 unique that means it that much more of time/money sink. Of course since there are six machines that give you the toys and they all have unique toys, it could cut down on time and money by getting 10 unique toys from one them moving on to the next and continuing until you get 50.

Nothing can recreate those feelings again, when Shenmue came out, the graphics were ahead of everything, characters even had teeth! There's still plenty to love about these game though, I wish more games had as detailed NPCs scheldules, being able to follow bus timetables, phone numbers and calendas. Those awesome details.

Yeah, it definitely was something else. Mind-blowing in every possible way. I think I will still be able to immerse myself. Of course recreating those feelings from back when the game came out is impossible, you're right. But I think I can still get at least some of them back just from the nostalgia factor alone.

My only experience with Shenmue at all is the demo of Shenmue 2 that came on the OXM demo disc way back in 2002 I believe. I enjoyed it so much I played it multiple times, and was always disappointed when the message popped up saying my time had expired. Looking over the harbor at Hong Kong City elicited a lot of emotions and I really wanted to see it at night.

Man, I really hope you enjoy it. I've been an active member of the community since 2005, and I can't wait to see what new players think about the game.

For me it's the greatest game ever made. The immersion is something I can't even begin to describe, the story is epic and the music is, just, wow. Can't wait to play it again and again.

Just got this in the post and just seeing the box art almost feels like a dream. I've wished for it to be rereleased on current platforms and now it is a reality. To think that many new gamers may not even have been born when they came out on the dreamcast is astonishing. I remember first playing this on the dreamcast in the year 2000 and am set to enjoy it all over again. Thank you sega!

One of the great videogaming experiences.

I hope everyone enjoys returning or exploring for the first time. As a game, it shows some strong signs of age, but as an experience there's still nothing else like it.

I've just this minute got the trophy for 50. My luck started running out on the four machines I can currently get to though. I was getting dupes in a row, so you're right the main worry will be money.

I did notice they've got a trophy wrong in that guide too but haven't got an account on there to let them know.

They've got you need to learn pit blow with Fuku-san. But I didn't get it after doing it. And the trophy description says training with him. So I'm thinking the trophy is for actually sparring with him later when you can.

I'm curious to see which version of the Yukawa hidden scene is in the game. So far I haven't managed to get what I need to get in order to see it.

Mine shipped yesterday. I haven't received it today, but I didn't really expect to, usually takes 2 days to get stuff from Base.

Nice OT, I'm really looking forward to impressions of first time players.

Like, I love the game, but let's be honestly, it's really old and clunky, so I'm looking forward to what new players think of it. If they can appreciate the insane amount of hand crafted work that went into it.
I'm the kind of player who enjoys walking across Los Santos in GTA because I find that people-watching NPCs is fun, so the slice-of-life immersive sim design of Shenmue is the one of the main reasons I've been interested in checking out the games for years

I'm picking this up on release date due to a gift card I had but it's quickly going to get put on lower priority for Kiwami 2 and DQXI :/ I should have a fun week with it, looks great.

Just started playing although just through the initial intro and rummaging around Ryo's drawers, lol. So good to be back.

Couple of nitpicks, lol. On the main menu screen the key part of the music seems far too faint.

And in the settings anyone else noticed that the UI area setting actually reduces the size of the UI as well as just bringing it in from the edges. I'd love to have it at the smaller size but remaining near the edge of the display but you can't do that which is weird.

Is the translation updated at all? Like if you choose Japanese audio do you get subtitles corresponding to the english audio, or a better translation of the Japanese? I remember someone (8-4?) mentioning that in Japanese the game is a lot less goofy and weird, because the english translation is really bad.

Reminder that this is one of the best songs in Shenmue 1 and for some reason only plays once in the entire game and you only hear like 30 seconds of it

Shenmue has never had a release like this. On the most popular consoles, and on PC. Both games together. English and Japanese voice options available.

A huge moment for this series, which will now be permanently accessible for so many people.

Can't wait to experience these games. I've already played through Shenmue 1 on the Dreamcast before, but I look forward to trying it out with Japanese audio this time and seeing how that feels. With Shenmue 2 I've watched a Let's Play of it but I also want to experience it for myself, and this Re-Release is the perfect opportunity. Maybe these will be the first two games where I'll go for the platinum trophy.

Also I look forward to seeing how newcomers to the series will feel about these games. I think many will be surprised at their deep levels of atmosphere and interactivity, as well as their cinematic feel particularly in Shenmue 2.

For those who have the game early, how do the controls feel? Particularly with the left analog stick, does the walking feel pretty natural and smooth? Or can it be a bit rough at times to control where you're facing?

Looking forward to beating Shenmue 1 for the first time (have it on Dreamcast but haven't gotten around to it), and Shenmue 2 for the third time.
